    Default How Many Nomads?

Now that we actually have a conversion-worthy plastic Nomad kit, I find myself wanting to field a good number of the cheap, reach-swinging hombres. I think a list like that would look cool visually (especially once I get done modifying mine) and would be pretty neat thematically. Problem is, can i do this without shooting myself in the foot?

Question 1 - is it possible to field more than two Nomads in a competetive list?

Questing 2 - which caster could do it the best and why would he/she want to?

(Oh my kingdom for a human caster with something like Full Throttle!)

I own three, usually run 2 at 35 points with Mags/eMags. Picking up MacBain soon to see what Shenanigans I can have with him.

Nomad is a solid jack for sure. Nothing wrong with more than 1, and I run 2 often. I think the real issue is that Merc casters aren't really solid jack casters. I don't think any of them can run 3 heavies in a "standard" style format.

That said, Bart and a bunch of Nomads would be quite interesting under Batten. Off the top of my head:

    Bart (+6)
    Nomad x4 24 (18)
    Rocinante 9 (27)
    Meg 2 (29)
    Dougal 2 (31)
    Harlan 2 (33)
    Orin 2 (35)

Advance slowly upfield under Batten, taking the occasional shots with Rocinante and Dougal's help. Use Dougal's mini-feat turn with Orin, Harlan, Bart, Meg, and Dougal himself to clear out Nomad charge lanes. Two waves of Nomads at ARM 22?

This is the important part. It doesn't matter how many Nomads you take, just make sure they are Metal. They perform better, true story.

Mags2 mangled metal makes great use of multiple Nomads, especially if you use his theme force!!

    Mags2 {+6}
    ~ Nomad - 6
    ~ Nomad - 6
    ~ Nomad - 6
    ~ Nomad - 6
    ~ Mangler - 1{7}

And technically, I have 5 metal ones - I made my custom Rocinante out of one

I feel sorry for the metal ones and their absurd smokestacks. Obviously they are overcompensating for something...ahem...

But back on target, my thought was that we can get 3 Nomads for what many folks pay for two of their faction jacks. I thought of playing super agressively with one of them, them letting it get trashed. Its two other buddies then charge in and attack whomever took out the first one. Something along those lines. Its a crude plan I know - just kind of toying with it so far.

Shae runs Nomads the best in my opinion (although Bart can technically run an infinite amount, they're not going to perform very well. The combination of both in a 100 point game is something to see though). I regularly run 3-4 in 50 point games.

I agree with Magnus I prefer the metal Nomad. I have 3 and find no problem fielding them all.

I think a good general blanket statement is that you want 2. After that there are lots of great lists you can write but you wouldn't use the 3+ all that often.

Two is not a bad number. Three (or ideally, two plus Rocinante) is not out of the question but, as a rule, I find that I prefer to start running lesser warlocks before I add a third heavy to most lists.

I have 4 metal nomads as well, and I'm in the market for at least one more, but am considering two or three. 1 had been converted into Gallant, and a second is earmarked for my Rocinante upgrade kit. And I find myself wanting at least 3 metal nomads for my Shae and Bartolo lists. More if I ever play 100 point 2 caster game or unbound.

The only way I'd buy 3 is for Unbound stuff, but since I need to buy a bunch first... That's quite the back burner stuff atm. I want 2 Nomads. Metal ones. I need to find 2! I think I have some friends that love plasti-crap and would take it in trade... Anywho...

Bart is the only one who can reasonbly run multiples. A competative 50 I was using had him with 3 nomads and 2 mules, but i switched the three out for 2 manglers purely so i could run them all and still cast hot shot. but ya, bart really stacks those arm22 nomads well, or arm24 with spiney growth

If we ever get the Olgunholt Corbeau as a new model, I could see playing four+ Nomads: two on Sam MacHorne and two on Dirty Meg. Or perhaps two on the Sword Knight UA and two on eMagnus in Bad Seeds?

How many Nomads? All the Nomads.

Plastic Nomads work ok for tabletop stuff, but metal Nomads can do that, as well as making much better sock-jacks.

The biggest problem with the metal nomads? They don't fit in my battlefoam bag worth a crap!

Unfortunately, I haven't found a good use for running multiple Nomads (I find I'm spending the extra 2 points to get a rover and his gun), but a single nomad works its way into my lists here and there.

    Not very helpful

The Olgunholt version of Corbeau lost Seduction (and maybe Sucker?) but in return she made friendly marshaled warjacks in her CMD range gain a focus when a friendly 'jack marshal activated in her CMD. Not "jacks marshaled to that 'jack marshal", *all* marshaled warjacks. Not "allocated", "gained". I maxed out at three focus each on four heavy warjacks, and I lost that game because I tried an assassination run with pMagnus versus Maelok, but I could easily see getting up to sixteen free focus a turn in a 50-point Highborn list. And since my marshals were Thor and Sam my 'jacks were deceptively fast. It was pretty much everything I've ever wanted jack marshaling to be.

I'm all for that. I don't care if it 'imbalances' vs infantrymachine. We need to get this game to where you see lots more of its iconic metal monsters on the board.

Unfortunately I was playing against Gators most of the league, so his 9-point troops kept wrecking my 'jacks and eating my casters, but I got some pretty good licks in against our PoM player.

If by "good" you mean a should-be-13-point unit for the price of 9 points, in a faction with ready access to massive ARM buffs, Undead-ifying, and Incorporeal, with built-in accuracy, ARM, and movement boosts, then yes, "good" is what they are. I'd call them something else, personally...

I find that after 2 Nomads, I start wanting something else from my jacks, like a Mangler or Mariner (or Rocinante). If I am running 3+ heavies I need some utility after a couple of disposable beatsticks. That said, I only run more than 2 heavies with Bart (Mariner, Rocinante, Mule), Shae at 50 (Nomad x2, Mariner), and Durgen (Avalancher 2x, Rockram)

No, I said the league Corbeau was totally broken and cheap, but that I was going to take advantage of it in the league until someone came to their senses, and that having a model like that available all the time would be one circumstance when I would run as many Nomads as possible. Go back and read my posts sometime. And I'm not sure what's "precedent-lacking" about reading the words PP wrote and executing them, but even if it is, the league's over so the Corbeau issue is dead. The Gatorman Posse, on the other hand, are a permanent part of the game.
