Default Help me flesh out an idea.

I am thinking of making a PoM temple board. The entire battle would take place in an enormous temple. This can be a temple under siege, chunks of fallen roof could be elevated terrain, fallen columns are quickly used as walls.... On problem i have is forest terrain. How can I put vegetation in this middle eastern temple and have it make sense? Any ideas are welcome.

How about something like an atrium or a trellis with growing vines?

I would think palm fronds in great metal urns, a standing pool full of lily pads and flowers, ivy creeping up a shadowed wall, ferns planted along the entry way or if you want to go full bore have the board seem dry and barren except for the high inquisitors private gardens. Great example from movies would be in both the movies Alexander and the gardens of the persian palaces and the movie Troy where Achilles loses his life, its a small patch of grass and trees inside a brown sand castle.

A forest is rough terrain with custom LOS rules. Trying to think of something urban that replicates that.
-Uneven sewer grates over flowing Menoth's Fury spewing steam clouds.
-One of those platforms for carrying royalty. Set on the ground, it has slightly raised sides, and is wrapped all the way around in 6 foot high curtains. You can jump thru it without tripping if you have pathfinder, it would be hard to charge thru without it, and the curtains block LOS. You can shoot anyone in it, but not thru it...
-Banners with the Menofix just painted up and ready for hanging, all on racks. Think rolls of cloth, 10' x 50', loosely draped over wooden racks that roll. So like four of the 6 foot high racks all in an area make up a forest. You can't see thru it; you can charge thru it but slowly, and even after its all knocked down, I imagine troopers and 'jacks having trouble charging thru it without pathfinder.
-A bunch of weapons racks. Imagine six TFG spears in a teepee shaped pile, all leaning up against one another. Now have like 6 of those mounted on a terrain base. Dangerous to run thru, and you can have smoke trails fluttering from the Menoth's Fury powered spears. Meybe the LOS part goes away after a heavy goes thru it, and it deals damage?
-I am not sure how stone work gets repaired in the IK, but meybe scaffolding? A bunch of balsa wood in a rough box shape set next to a wall. Breaks down into a pile of splinters; similar effect to the banner holders.
-A fountain, shallow, too shallow to be 'shallow water' but enough to impede movement. Also, the flow of water from the top and spray from the bottom give you the LOS block? That's more like a cloud effect, but what have ya.
-Bonus! Always have to recommend the water tower. If it gets destroyed, roll deviation to see where the 3" shallow water template lands. While it is standing, the latticed leg structure plus ladders that make up the base make for an area that would be rough with the the LOS blocking...
    Good luck!

I dont know if its still up, but GW did an article on how to make a board much like this.

I just looked and I didn't seem to find it on their site, but it must be stored somewhere. It was a black templar board, designed to look like the inside of a massive cathedral or crusade starship. Laid out tile patterns on the floor, support pillars, etc, and at least one maybe two sides were walls designed to look "broken in to" from the outside.

It was neat, probably could have helped you some.

For walls, you could have piled up pews, like a makeshift barricade, or a stand of TFG shields. Large pieces of crashed architecture (like steeples/dome parts) would work well for blocking terrain.

For forests, there are a few good ideas above, but I'll add in perhaps a whole bunch of Flame guard standards in rows (you could get generic standards and paint them up), as if they were waiting for the temple defenders to take them. Also, a small indoor garden could be done. Or perhaps a whole bunch of statues on plinths, of various priests and temple guardians gone before? The steam grate idea, as if there was an underground workshop would work very well also.

You can simply have a garden courtyard. The extravagant display of water by making a garden was quite the statement for Desert kingdoms of our world. I can't see it interfering with the setting by following suit.

    Something like this.

Or, make the center of the table an interior oasis, as in the temple was built around and to protect a vital source of natural drinking water.

The center could have various desert trees and shrubs, and even grass.

Be creative with your scenery, and try to make the rules fit your table. Lakes and flowery or green vegetation has no place in a temple to Menoth. Instead, find other ways to provide cover, concealment, elevation, etc.
Listen to Runewyse, he has some great ideas. I had plans for a table like this years ago. I was going to use tapestries and candelabras for traditional "forests." I also planned to have 3" screen partition sections. These provide concealment (but not cover) and count as impassable for infantry. Jacks could walk/charge/slam through them, removing the sections from play.

On my urban table, I use small park templates....

I would think you could put small gardens in and use those as forest....Or just tell Circle to stay home.

you could add large Incense burners with huge cloudes coming out of them. This would grant cover prevent line of sight the only thing it doesn't explain is the rought terrain and why having pathfinder would allow you to go through it, but I like the idea and it fits with the board.

I dont know how to describe this, ut what about banners on poles. hanging banners arranged in a patern on the floor held up by poles, you coudl say they are rememberance banners of the fallen or some such, or a bunch of half fallen scaffolding

Could you not say that the temple has been destroyed for years and starting with weeds, a small vegetation has grown where the light shines through a large whole in the roof?
