    Default thumper crew thoughts anyone?

    so ive only ever seen thumper crew in a few lists whats it like to play with is it a good 3 point unit? would you say with an impaler giving it 18 range would make it ok knocking down enemys and whats the dmg like vsing warbeasts/warjacks and stuff i am thinking about getting them later on not at the moment but mayb sometime later on to experiment with in my list

    Cabers really work better for this and they hit more consistently, but the times I have taken a thumper it has worked pretty well for knocking down large based models. It is also good to put explosevo on with Gunny. Makes for some fun times.

    Thumper is the best artillery in whole game! But that's still not gamebreaking. The biggest problem whit thumper is move-or-shoot and still only rat 7. Don't get me wrong, I like thumper, and whit reinforcents it has seen much more tabletime, cos flanking fieldgun is really good. Also problem whit far-strike is that then thumper cost 8p and the impaler is stuck whit thumper which can't move(or shoot) and still produce 2 fury. But overall most games I play it, I love it, and it is totally worth of it's points (but bowling krielwarriors to casters or screen of infantry), but still I do not play it regularly.

    And if we some time get model that can boost rat, then thumper can see it's glory.

    If you are keeping the Impaler with the Thumper crew, he could make a push each turn moving them 1" usually; doesn't count as movement for the Thumper so they can still fire normally.

    This question comes up every month or two and the answer is usually the same.

    While the Thumper is pretty decent and a fun artillery peice for the points Trollbloods have a lot of other choies that are superior. I like my Thumper Crew, but it's hard to pick him for my lists over other choices... How many times do you find yourself saying, "Yeah, I think the the Thumper is better here than Janissa."

    I had a thumper crew as one of my reinforcements at templecon for the Masters and the 35 point Flanks tournament.

    They function much better as a reinforcement. Otherwise, I only use them in Gunny's theme list. That said, troll bowling is awesome.

    Looks like you never met the Commodore or the Khador Mortar.

    Problem with the Thumper is, besides the usual light artillery problems, it's in a faction with mostly medium bases. So it is kinda hard to get line of sight to something smaller than a heavy.
    But it's still usable, arcing fire would be nice, but you can put it to use.

    It doesn't sound scary, because both of them knock stuff down and neither can boost. Now a Thumper, an Impaler, and a Bomber. That's scary, since you can knock down with the Thumper, then toss two boosted bombs. But I tend to think Impaler, Bomber, War Wargon is the way to go there. (Since the War Wagon can fire while engaged, he can AOE infantry that engage the Bomber and free the bomber up. He also has the Thumper's ability, only just the Knockdown on a 5" template?)

    Beckman, I see your point and raise you a thumper. Nothing like running a thumper up and then feating to get effective range of 26" on your little thumper. If you have wagon/bomber/impaler they are all getting shots off as well and things will die.

    /disagree. The Commodore is the best artillery in the game. To be fair though, it's heavy artillery. The Thumper may be the best light artillery though. .

    I like artillery. Its nice to shell the enemy as much as you can before they get to you. Having slow things like Champions to wait for the charge else the shelling continues. I thought of ways to advance the thumper, but you'd need a heavy warbeast and they'd easily kill the crew if you throw it. RNG 18 is awesome though. RAT 7 is good. Don't underestimate RAT 7. That'll hit def 14 on average numbers. That's Magnus, most protectorate casters, and most units on average rolls.

    WHEE. I would love to see this happen. Remember to cast the Far Strike animus on the Thumper from the Impaler first, then run the thumper, then activate emaddy, then pop feat or what have you, cast Far Strike on the Bomber and whatever else needs to shoot the thing to death... then... BOOM, BOOM, BOOM.

    The thumper is a little subpar because it's an expensive model pointswise, and you don't always get the best situation to use it... but super funny when you can make people lose to it... because then they're like.. "But wait... I was alive a minute a go, then the thumper knocked me down... what happened..."

    I think you can slam your own Kriel Warriors from behind into the enemy to knock both of them down? All it takes is some luck if they happen to be engaged by the enemy caster (DEF12 +4 DEF, -2 Back Strike = effective DEF 14).. Gotta love knocking small-medium bases down... "Hiya Vlad..."

    Edit: Knocking people off control points is also fun. It's just that you have to be willing to be sad a lot of the time when your Thumper misses, or when people play around it. But when it works... it's all worth it.

    Yep. The rule is "Momentum" - small or med bases hit by it are slammed D3" - Not only that, but the guy who then gets slammed into takes a full POW14 collateral damage hit.
    No more credible a source than any other grown man who plays with toy monsters.

    Thumpers have served me well in my Gunnbjorn list. Slams from Thumpers, Impalers, and the Throw from Crit Devastation gets more hilarious with each game.

    I like it with Calandra, as with rerolls and/or the feat you're pretty likely to hit.
