Hello everyone, how are you all?

I have been roaming around here for a while, as I have been slowly enticed with Warmachine/Hordes. I used to play 40k (have over 3000 points of Chaos Space Marines), but have been absent from the hobby since 2005. For over a year now I have been contemplating getting into Warmachine/Hordes, due to the fact that the game can actually be played with a few miniatures. Given that I am heading into my third year of law school, I do not want to spend (nor do I have the time) to paint 40 models plus other units to get a decent size army for a game. Furthermore, I am really in love with the models that Privateer Press releases, and from what I have heard and seen (on youtube) Warmachine/Hordes seems like a great game oriented for skirmish games. Now, I am on my summer break, well at least till for another entire week until my summer classes start. But I can definitely amass a good sized army to game over the summer (since I have only two classes).

Besides introducing myself, I wanted to see whether there are any Warmachine/Hordes players in the Irvine, CA (Orange County) area. Over the summer I plan on staying with my folks on the weekends (just cause my friends are here, and my local hobby store is less than 10 minutes away). But before really committing into the hobby I wanted to know whether there are any gaming groups or places with a dedicated Warmachine/Hordes fanbase in the OC. Since during the actual semester I tend to reside more in Irvine, I would love to have other people to play once in a while (I can take a few hours on a particular day off).

So far I am definitely leaning towards Skorne (and Hordes) due to the fact that I prefer the idea of having large beasts in your army. However, Cryx appeal to me as well. But, before all of this I would like to know if there are other gamers in the OC area.

Welcome aboard, Facade19! I am a bit north of you, in Burbank. I know there are a few good OC places to play, and hopefully they will chime in soon. You will definitely want to make it to SoCal Smackdown this year - it happens in mid-September in Anaheim.

Be sure to check out the faction communities for advice on how to start in Skorne. There are some fantastic beast options, with some more on the way.

Well, thank you guys for your nice words. I did some research as to a local store in Irvine, and the closets one would be the one in Garden Grove, I think Brookhurst Games. I plan on checking it out. As for now, I did the plunge and reserved a warpack for the new plastic Skorne force. I will be picking it up on the 23 of this month. Super excited. I shall attend the local hobby shop here in the valley (the Game Ogre) tomorrow for a few matches of warmachine, and pick up a rule book for Hordes Mk II. Let's see how I will like it.

I live in Orange and recently started playing Cryx (i do have 25 point Cygnar, Khador and Mennoth too) and have been hard pressed to find a gaming club in OC (Brookhurst Hobbies cancelled theirs last month in favor of Malifaux on Thursday nights). I know Game Empire in Pasadena runs games but that is a bit of a trek. Anyway, if you find a group let me know and I'll try to make it to a game!
