Default Winter boards, need some help though.

    Sup guys,

I'd like to make an snow board for my Khador and Legion, but I have this problem. I find snow boards to be boring.
All the white it's just.. just so boring to look at. So, in order to build my snow table I bought a lot of snow covered trees, started shaping rocks so the grey breaks up the tedious white.

Even with all these things, I fear the white will be to dull, so I'd like to know if any of you ever tryed a snow board and what did you use to break up the monotony? Did you use grass, rocks, trees?

    Thanks!

I dont see any reason you cant make it look like this.

I mean winter is kinda the dead season, so you can emphasize things that are always dead :P.
Like I usually put some dead grasses around my rocks and what not.
Also, why wouldnt you throw in a frozen pond or two?

Winter doesn't have to mean 100% snow on the ground. Here are some other things you can add to break up the white:

-A road with muddy cart tracks
-A frozen lake (with or without special rules depending on how thick the ice is)
    -Hot springs
    -Dead bushes and trees
-Tufts of dried grass sticking through the snow

I wouldn't cover the whole thing in snow, definitely. I'd go with mostly a gray rubble/dirt ground underneath with snow tufts and patches around.

    Here's some inspirations for ya:

    - half eaten carcases frozen in the snow

Ice is never all white.. Usually it looks blue and grey... the white that you see on ice is often snow or frost.

    - Ice (like huge glaciers with deep blue crevases)
    - Ice Bridge
    - Icicles hanging off of leafless trees
    - Iced over lake...

Thanks for the examples, I must say that the MWG link looks stunning..

Anyways, none of you have examples which involve grass? I get I can use the color gray, lightblue and brown, but I'd rather use green...

Green grass is more of a spring thing. Try searching "spring snow" on google images and see what you get--I just did that and found a few good ones of green grass poking through the snow.

I think you could certainly use tufts of grass. I wouldn't recommend using very bright green grass flock though, mix it with brown grass or use a muted green. That will give you the "dying grass" look to keep everything bleak. Bright green grass is rarely seen with snow. Either it indicates a very early or very late snowfall, and I think it would just be harder to pull it off and be believable.

Yeah you guys are probably right.. But, I did already base my table with sand, so how about I paint the sand a dark green color, and then put snow over it and I just leave some spots with the green open?

And, I just thought of this, how about I add some thing like an old temple with an orange glow/LED? This would really break up the white.

I like the chunks of ice btw (:

I recommend you take a look at some shots of tundra (e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Gr...ydkapp2_hg.jpg). Tundra plants aren't usually particularly green. Try painting the sand in these kind of reddy-yellow colours, then dumping snow all over it.

That looks sweet, and since I got this in flock I'll think I'll just glue this on the table at some random parts.

Anyways, I decided to paint the sand white with gray/brown patches scattered around. Tommorow I'll see how it looks and if it looks weird I think I'll flock the snow parts with baking soda.

i do brown dirt when im doing snow. its simple and makes the snow you put on stick out that much more. way better than all shades of grey i think

My brother has a snow battlefield that he had made. He started off using different sized boxes and polystyrene to create hills. He then piled bark along the edges and filled them with a mixture of sand, water and PVA glue to create rocky crags. Afterwards he glued plumbing sand onto the entire board and some onto the bark before sealing it with heavily watered-down PVA.

The bark was painted grey and the sand a mixture of earth and snow. He finished off with snow effects.
