    Default Baldur1 25pt Tier 4 - last few points

    I'm going to play a T4 list for old Baldur at an upcoming event and was looking for suggestions on filling it out.

    The minimum T4 requirements are as follows:

    • Baldur the Stonecleaver (0 / 6 WB)
      • Megalith - 10 pts
    • Druid Stoneward & Woldstalkers - 5 pts
    • Druid Stoneward & Woldstalkers - 5 pts
    • Sentry Stone & Mannikins - 3 pts
    • Shifting Stones - 2 pts
      • Stone Keeper - 1 pts

    Techinically the Stone Keeper is not required, but it's an auto-include for me with the shifting stones and I'm grateful that I only have a few tier-friendly options to choose from. That leaves me 5 points to spend.

    I have a few options left in the tier, but I'm convinced I need to fill that spot with a light warbeast, either a Woldwatcher or Woldwyrd. If I don't, I'll be starved for fury. Even with the beasts, fury could easily become an issue.

    That said, which beast would you recommend? They're both attractive options. I'd lean towards the Woldwatcher if I wanted another bodyguard for Baldur, some melee attacks, or thought I might be able to fertilize some forests for Baldur to walk in. Alternatively, the Woldwyrd will kill some stuff at range and threaten some magic users. The problem is that I have yet to play with this list, so I don't know which option it needs more. It already seems strong at ranged and there aren't many melee attacks. At this rate, I won't decide until the last minute.

    Any comments or suggestions, would be appreciated!

    Why the requirement for Tier 4. In my opinion it's just too tight to merit playing at 25 points. One of the big features of Baldur's Theme list is the advance deploying, teleporting heavy Warbeasts. At 25 points you simply don't have the resources to play to this advantage. I suggest you cap the list at tier 2 and select the following:

    Baldur the Stonecleaver +6 points
    * Megalith 11 points
    * Wold Guardian 9 points

    Druid Stoneward & Woldstalkers 5 points
    Sentry Stone & Mannikins 3 points
    Shifting Stones 2 points
    * Stone Keeper 1 point

    Thanks for the comments. Now that you mention it, I don't really need the T4 benefit. It would only save me 1 pt. in my list. Bringing two heavies lets me take full advantage of the Advance Deploy, right? Why take the Guardian over a Woldwarden? I've never played the Guardian, but he looks good on paper. I have played the warden, but not with Baldur.

    The Guardian is the heaviest hitter available to you, and the tier benefit goes some way towards mitigating his lack of SPD. He cannot charge, geomancy stone skin onto himself, then start swinging like the Woldwarden can though, so he is a good candidate for the Stones' teleport. The Warden/Guardian debate is a pretty tough one to settle in Baldur's tier, but I am inclined towards the Guardian because sometimes you need that P+S19, whereas the second Geomancer is just a pleasant addition.
