    Default 35pts pMakeda "Newb Learn List" - Feedback please

    New to Skorne, not the game.

    Since my LGS has a "Painted Only" rule I have to pick my next models to paint as needed of importance for play.

    Looking for advice on what to take out or is this list solid enough to learn Skorne with?

    These are the figs I have painted, dipped and based, with access to the entire collection for substitutions as suggested.

    System: Hordes
    Faction: Skorne
    Casters: 1/1
    Points: 35/35
    Archdomina Makeda (*5pts)
    * Bronzeback Titan (10pts)
    * Molik Karn (11pts)
    * Titan Gladiator (8pts)
    Nihilators (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
    Paingiver Beast Handlers (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts)
    Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew (Leader and 1 Grunt) (1pts)

    Am I too beast heavy? Not enough units to get the full benefit from pMakeda's feat? Should I drop the BB and go for an other unit and some solos?

    If it was me I would drop the Bronzeback and reduce the nihilators to minimum, and then add Praetorian Swordsmen + UA as well as a Brute. This gives you more bodies for Makeda's Feat as well as the Brute being able to make a model immune to knockdown. The swordsmen are really great with Makeda and the max unit of Nihilators can get very unweildy.

    I like your bases very much by the way.

    First of all. I like the painting a lot.

    For the list itself. I do think it's a bit beast heavy for pmakeda...but would work quite nicely with pMorghoul. On the other hand, both the bronzeback and Molik Karn are probably overkill unless you plan to see a lot of beast heavy list. Adding some preatorian swordman is never a bad idea, and most like will love to have them added. Making them a great investment.

    I'd say it's only a little beast heavy for pMakeda. I normally run two units, max Swordsmen and min Cetrati, but Makeda only really needs one max unit to get good mileage out of her feat. Use it for a turn of no-loss tarpitting while your beasts get into a good position. Then replace any Nihilators who died so as to clear out good "walking" lanes. The "Molik + Bronzeback + Gladiator" combo is absurdly brutal with her spell list (especially Carnage, but especially Savagery).

    Going too infantry heavy with pMakeda can be a bit of a trap. She needs at least a couple of things that can take care of heavies. I normally field 2 heavies and Cetrati rather than 3 heavies, but she can still run them well.
    I'm contributing to a Warmachine/Hordes blog. Here it is: 4+ Tough. I'm posting as pGrexy.

    This is kinda what I was thinking when I did this list up.

    Thanks for the input dudes, this is my first Skorne list and I wanted something to learn off of. I do have a full unit on Swordsman and the UA, just not too stoked to dive into painting another unit just yet. I'll get to them next as I can see them fitting in.

    I may run this for a little bit and then do some swapping out. I already can feel like I'll drop the BB and get a Tyrant Commander for and Reveille for the Nihilators and put in a Brute for a damage dump and No Knockdown for Makeda and toss in Midwinter to use the last 2 pts.

    Its pretty similar what iv been starting out with.
    I am Interested in how orin works for you, since iv been debating what to put as my last 2 points and its a toss up between orin, soulward or saxon for my list.

    What the heck? Your game store has a RULE that says you HAVE to paint in order to play?

    Having painted minis on the table actually helps sell product as well as putting a better first impression out there for miniature gaming in general.

    Uh, if your painting is good. My first stuff looked much much better unprimered than it did after my painting. I've heard people say they prefer playing against painted armies, but a flat-out rule stating you can't play if you don't is weird.

    I also think you'd lose out on the people who want to play but don't have time or motivation to paint.

    I love the "Painted" rule as it promotes the game and the hobby. Nothing better than seeing 75pt games with nothing but awesome colour on a table. Since the store is a "Everything Games" type store and it's on a busy street with a lot of walk in traffic who don't play Mini Wargames and they usually look in to the back area where the battles are going down and say "What's this?.....cool game"

    Back to the topic, since this is going to be a learning list I am leaning towards the Agonizer now for the last 2 pts rather than Orin Midwinter, perhaps swap them in and out depending on what faction I play up against.

    Thanks for the input, I kinda know a direction to head in now and I'm looking forward to my new faction.
