Building Project: Reversable Warmachine and Hordes Table

I have started a new game table project. The other tables I have built have primarily been flat surface in order to accomodate modular terrain pieces like hills, rivers and buildings. I was thinking of a way to create a reversable table and thought of building a table with a framed edge. This would allow for me to build terrain that was raised off of the table, but still be able to flip it over as it would rest on the frame. Here's the table so far:

I'll post more as it develops.

Anyone tried this? Got any tips?

Just be careful to make the set terrain even. You wouldn't want a wonky table.

    Oh great point! Thanks!
One side will be a beach for a Pirate theme. The other side will either be the city of Corvis or the Mountains for my Rhuls.

You might be able to mitigate that with some blocks to place under the flipped side for a balance, but then you'd have to really plan out where all the terrain is going. otherwise the other side wouldn't fit. You could use free floating blocks but then you'd have to place them everytime you want to flip, and at this point I'd probably just make two tables. You could also have a frame that is open underneath to alow the terrain to fall through the bottom. This would allow for set peices and cut weight, but wouldn't add to stablility and you might get some warping. (which would probably happen anyway because of the free floating table flip idea.

Basically what I'm saying is "You can have a table that flips or you can have a table with set terrain. Both might be asking for much."

    ^Is this the plan?^
In this case, the elevations won't touch and the table will sit flat.

I did an almost similar project a while ago. Because it's portable, I guess you could say it can be flipped over.

Wow, that is beautiful! And exactly what I had considered for one side of the table. The cityscape is gorgeous, though I have to go with light weight materials to avoid sag in the middle of the table. Alternatively, as described above I could put a block under the center of the table.

One side is deeper than the other, so the shallower side will be the Pirates Landing Beach table. I glued some sand on it on the weekend:

And, I have puttied the beach section to give it a smooth bottom before I apply the waterworks.

I really like the layout of your table, and may use a similar terrain layout on the opposite side.

AND, it appears we run a very similar army - +1 for Searforge!

I finally got back to doing some work on the Beach side of my Reversible Table.

I put a dark base coat of paint down and will begin highlighting this weekend.

    Reversible Warmachine Table Part 2

I finally got back to my Reversible Table Project. I applied 4 coats of varied shades of brown to tan paint to the surface of the table. Then I applied varying shades of blue to white paint to the water. I used some stippling of white and blue paint to the edge of the sand to create a whitewater look.

I still have a lot of work to do on the beach side of the table, but I couldn't resist cracking it out for our League Game on Monday night. I plan on applying some water effects to the water part of the table, touching up some paint, adding some flock here and there and then painting up the dollar store palm trees. But, here's some photos of the action:
