Default Tale of a small swiss gaming group

    Hi there,

So i've been lurking on this forum for long enough, now it's time to act.
As i wrote in the title, we are a very small group of friends (3 guys sadly) who have been drawn to warmahordes not so long ago and we are trying to keep up painting with everything we bought.

This thread will be updated by everyone of us, i will let them present themself and i will begin my presentation.

So I'm 23, i've been painting miniature for more or less ten years, mostly cause i like the painting and modelling the most, but as we began to play (3 years ago ), it's been a very fun side to use the figurine i painted.
Now we are mostly trying to paint what we need to play. We don't get so much game as we are quite busy, but we're trying to get a least two game a month .

So i'm playing cryx and legion (yes my teammates love me ^.^ ), next post will feature feature my first try on cryx!

P.S. As you can imagine english is not our first language so don't be to harsh on our spelling.

    So here we go

Scrapthrall first wm painting years ago

First attempt at a warjack with a deathripper

Second attempt 1 years later with a defiler

And the most recent Deneghra with my new and (probably) final schema

That's all for my cryx but a syren is actually on my painting table with a slayer
Following will be my legion of everblight

My first legion, those awesome little shredders

I then tried a way to paint armor on a legionnaire

the carnivean, terror of the gaming table

And last the lovely shepperd and is really tiny arm (pinning this was interesting... )

And so that's everything i've painted for the moment!
If you're interrested i could post some wip picture but as you will see i'm a really slow painter

Comment & criticism are mostly welcome !

Comming next the second deathripper from the battlebox and a ww syren

Great color contrast! I particularly like the blending of dead flesh on the scrap thrall. How did you do the bronze on Lylyth?

... great highlights on the beasts.

Makes me wanting to rethink if black is again a skin tone option, given that crisp highlighting

Those Legion beasts look ace. Highly stylized, just how I like it.

Would you mind doing a tutorial on how you did the shading on those beasts? Looks astounding!

This is a rather big step above what people normaly put up as their first Warmachine/Hordes model.

Really nice job. I like the dramatic highlights, although I think the Legion could have done with the same dramatic highlights on the brown as you did with the flesh.

I really liked your Absylonia model. I was never quite happy with how I did mine and yours shows me where I should have put more emphasis on the model. Really first rate.

Love the Everblight color scheme, so much better than the washed out purple.

So here come the recipe for the legion

    Skintone:

    Base black
First highlight with mix of Coal Black p3 and Necron abyss citadel
Add some Frostbite p3 for a smooth transition till almost pure Frostbite

    for the bronze:

    Base Hammered cooper Vallejo
Shade with Baal red wash Leviathan purple wash mixed with a drop of water
Shade some more with devlan mud wash into the deep recesse
    Highlight with Dwarf Bronze citadel
Final highlight with Dwarf bronze and Radiant platinum p3

The highlight may seem really crisp sometimes, i'm working on making them a bit smoother ^^
Thought the intensity of those highlight maybe due to the flash as i took the pictures with my phone

And the group shot for the everblight family !

    Thank for your interest !

So it's been a really busy week for me but i'm back with a small update!

So i was struggling to find a nice colour for my raider hair, what would you suggest?

I like the brightness of the green hair but it doesn't entirely click. I'd think a purple similar to the Ret. hair would work well. Maybe a light blue, but that's hard to pull off even in animation.

    Enjoy!

That legion scheme is just epic. so striking. I want to know how you did those stripes on the carvinean. I could see using parts of the technique to make my ash and ember legion.

    Very, very nice.

If those are you as a beginner, then I can't wait till you have a few years under your belt and have been exposed to more techniques.

    Please post more.

    Again, very nice!!!!!!!!

    legion:
your style of painting takes the faults of edge "line" type highliting and throws them away, it looks stunning! very bold, and very effective.
    cryx:
you have achieved an effect that my friend has done with an airbrush on your cryx, that you have done with a brush! they look great.
you have to find a bigger club, so you can make more people jealous of your skill with a paintbrush. keep up the good work!

First, just wanted to say this looks amazing! All of it.

Second, I am making a slight foray into painting a larger area of black, and need to do highlights as you did. That is probably one of the best highlighted blacks I have seen in a long time. I really like it. If it's not too much trouble, what colors do you use for your highlight and what do you think is the best way to highlight a larger flat area like a cloak or a warjack?

Sorry i'm actually at the army so i don't have much time to do anything but i will post some news when i come back.

    Thanks for the kind words.

For the recipe for the black are you talking about the one highlighted with light blue or simply grey?
As for the grey is just a random grey that you highlight with a lighter grey
for the blueish black i use the same colour that was described in the book for everblight for the armor ^-^

As for the best way to highlight large flat area, to have a black you should be very light on the zone where
you highlight your cloak to keep the impression that is black and not grey.
So i like to do a little freehand or some scratch to keep away of the boring of the big flat area with nothing, if you look a bit on internet you'll find a lot of different tutorial to highlight black or doing scracth and everything.

Expect to see rhyas finished, a champion strider, a bane knight, morty and her little pet ! =)
    See you soon!
