    Default Marcs and SR2012

Hi, I am new to the forum... I have a few questions about mercs as they are a particular interest of mine at the moment.

Do Mercs suffer from character restrictions?
How do you get around them?
How would you rank the Casters? (Kind of an interesting one for me as I was recently schooled by Bart, despite a lot of forum hate)

    And finally...

In general how do we do in SR2012?

CR hurts mercs not because they can no longer field competitive lists, but because the number of two caster pairings is about cut in half, so you just have less variety to enjoy

You get around them by having one list not need rhupert, and the other not need epic eiryss and aiyana and holt.

I won't rank casters, that question always turns a thread into a flame fest

I feel mercs have done far worse so far in sr 2012 but i'm sure good merc players are still doing well enough. It's 80% ability and attitude, and 20% matchups and luck, and 0% faction choice, honestly. Faction choice can effect matchups at times, but thats as far as it goes to effecting a players outcome.

No. Players that can't deal with it suffer.

Players with large collections won't suffer. Take one list as Shae's theme and one list as any other contract of your choice and you're fine. The problem with character restrictions is mostly that it hits new players or players with limited collections harder than it hits other people. And it makes army selection more standardized and less interesting.

Locally, Character Restrictions attempts to fix a problem we do not have and is a bad rule. It should have been an optional add on to the core SR2012, not a base rule to the format.

To me, there are only a couple solos, like Gorman, Epic Eiryss, Sylys, etc., that you want to include in virtually every list. But that is no different than every other faction that can run those pieces.

I agree that taking Shae Talion or either (soon to be any of 3) Searforge casters as one of your two basically eliminates this issue entirely. I am currently running 4* MacBain and Highborn Damiano as my two casters for SR, and I have no trouble with overlap issues.
