Default pSeverius & Blessing of Vengeance Query

    Hey guys,

just a quick question really regarding pSeverius, Bless of Vengeance and the Affinity that they share.

BoV's affinity, "Once per turn, when Severius channels a spell through this model, he gains +2 to that spell's damage rolls."

My main question here is, if Serverius casts Ashes to Ashes would the additional models hit by the spell have their damage rolls also increased by +2?

"Ashes to Ashes - If target model is hit, it and the d6 nearest enemy models with 5" of it suffer a POW 10 fire damage rold."

My feeling is that this would apply but I'd just like some input to confirm or deny.

As a side note I wasn't sure if I was allowed to take direct quotes from the rules. If not please let me know and I will edit ASAP.

Yes Ashes to Ashes would indeed benefit from the +2 as well as Eye of Menoth therefore making it an effective pow 13. Also when asking rules questions you are allowed to post direct quotes but you generally want to put rules questions in the rules forum. Also welcome to the forums and the Protectorate.

Thank you so much Demeritus. Duely noted on the points you made.

Confirming this really excites me as I am just sitting on the 2-Player box set at the moment and my main opponent has reccently started fielding the "Death Star" / Winterguard with Tough and it's been wrecking me quite badly.

With my first real purchase of PoM (outside of 2-player box) coming up i've been toying with a list that could pack a punch for the Khador jacks yet still have flexibility to deal with high DEF "duck and weave" and tough Winterguard.

For this I've been thinking (attempting not to make this a list discussion),
Severius + Blessing of Vengeance - AoE and protection
    Avatar - Hard hitting
Vanquisher & Vassal - AoE double shots in beginning and enliven / extra attacks for jacks after tar pit is hopefully dead

Anyone have any additional advice regarding dealing with Death Star / using Severius & BoV?

    All the best,

    Az

Ashes to Ashes is a great way of clearing troop but it is very luck dependent in terms of what you roll for the additional hits. The Vanquisher will do the job beautifully as even if you miss they are still on fire and susceptible to the blast damage. Also, not sure if you have it but make sure you get a choir since our jacks while average on their own shine so much more with the choir enhancing them.

One more tidbit you can choose the +2 after you determine the number of additional models hit.

Eye of Menoth will also add the +1 to your attack roll with Ashes to Ashes.

BOV can be outrageously survivable with Psevy also. Between repel, and vision (from Sevi) as long as he is not hanging WAY out there is is tough to remove early game. Jack hunting units can bring him down, and jacks or beasts with open fist (to lock your shield) will keep him held up and remove him eventually. But for the most part he is a death star/support killing machine, with bushwhack and def strike. What is not to like.

As for your list, it looks great!! I would say that the next place to look is a unit of Temple Flame Guard. Defenders ward makes them 15/19 in shield wall... 17/19 against a charge or trample!! Take that..... anything.
Don't blame bad dice rolls for your losses. It was your lack of planning that made you roll trip-ones.

Thank you so much for the feedback. For sake of conversation and I will look into list duscussion forums also, here is the 25 pts I'm buying / thinking of buying. As a side note I am, as many are I'm sure, holding on for the plastic Reckoner so not fielding one at this point but may well do.

Grand Scrutator Severius + 6 WJP
    *Blessing of Vengeance - 7
    *Vanquisher - 8
    Avatar of Menoth - 11
Choir of Menoth (Leader and 5 Grunts) - 3
    Vassal of Menoth - 2

At 35pts I'd then be looking towards TFG, Errants, few merc solos, etc

Adding max Errants w/ UA at 35 is definitely the way to go. Errants with Defender's Ward are obnoxiously difficult to dislodge.

Another thing to note is that a Redeemer is actually much better than it's inaccurate rule would seem to imply. 16" range allows you to strike AOE's at enemies from turn 1. When your opponent is fielding droves of infantry this is pretty huge as even misses have a chance to kill. Remember too that Eye of Menoth +1 to damage and choir +2 to damage is applied after halving blast damage. So the Redeemer's AOE's are blast POW 9 under those effects. It has ROF 3 too.

I almost always take a Redeemer now and I find it really good with pSeverious.

Combine a Redeemer, Vanquisher and Ashes arced through BOV and you shouldn't have a Winterguard problem anymore.

edit. Severious like Wracks too. You'll find his 8 Focus actually not enough. He wants a Heirophant or Reclaimer to really maximize his spell list capabilities.

The Redeemer is also able to get up to a very respectable (and often surprising) effective RAT of 8 if it is able to aim at a target affected by a Reckoner's Flare, along with the Battle Hymn and Eye of Menoth.

Flinging highly accurate, boostable POW 15s at enemy targets can put out a lot of hurt. I've crippled or killed many an enemy Heavy with a Reckoner, Redeemer, and Vassal.

Thank you everyone for the great advice. The tips on the Eye of Menoth, Flare and the adding of the damage after halfing the POW has all been amazing and something I'm going to drill into my head.

In terms of asking for more and moving this conversation to a little more appropiate forum I have made a post below regarding my full 35pts list for an upcoming event (my first ever) and would greatly appreciate any further feedback you'd be willing to give.
