Default Help recreating/improving my Retribution Purple color?

I've been using a nice purple instead of the default white for my retribution army...the problem is GW's taken to reformulating all their paints so the colors aren't quite the same, as well as being THICKER...urg...

I like the color, it's a mix of Bleached Bone and Liche Purple. Don't know the exact ratios, but I've been able to recreate it by just mixing until its right. My problem, as the picture should show, is it's kind of thick...and with the reformulating of GW paints I think it's time I shifted lines...Vallejo's Bonewhite seems a good swap for bleached bone, but I can't figure out what to use in place of liche purple...and I'm aiming for a slightly thinner color to make dealing with the infantry 'detailing' around all those things they have inscribed on their armor easier. Any suggestions?

Royal purple or Hexed Lichen should be a good purple to use out of the Vallejo Game color range. As for the thick ness just add a drop or two of water for every 2-3 drops of paint you use in the mix. This will help the colors blend more easily, as well as keep your paints thinned. This will work even better if you have a wet pallete. Plus if you are doing a large number of models at once the wet pallete will help keep your paints wet for waaaaaay longer, so you wont waste paints, or lose the exact shade you are working with.

    Hope this helps, Good luck.

PP also sells a bottle of what they call mixing medium. I found using this instead of water to slim down my pants works amazing.

Also, depending on how many guys you have already painted, you may want to just start over with a new purple that is still being made.

I've fallen victim to the reformulating as well. My solution? Valejos Game Colour line. It is essentially colour matched to the old paint line, and while not exact, closer than anything you're likely to find in the current GW range.

I use Game Colour, 'cause it's the cheapest model paint I can buy locally, and it seems to be pretty good. Then again, I'm a complete painting newb, and most of my models come out pretty hideous (aside from one stroke of good luck which made a decent-looking Angelius), so you should not trust my opinion.

I'd pick out paints that share a similar color, whether they be lighter or darker than the current purple, and use them to accent the current purple. The current scheme looks clean, however it's very flat. Highlighting is about the best thing you can start with for now.

Woo! managed to match by mixing Bonewhite and Hexed Lichen. it's also a lot smoother than before, so I should be able to do infantry more easily...it was kind of too thick as it was >_<.

Needs a good wash of GW,s purple wash. Like the color... good job.
