Lich Lord Terminus wins the day!

So in the list building section I recently posted some 50 point lists I was thinking of playing in yesterdays steam roller. I had to decide between Skarre and Terminus. And where Skarre had won me last tournament and I have never fielded Terminus in a tournament before I though I might give him a swing. Plus I usually like to make one of my casters higher arm and he is almost as high is they come before tricks. As luck would have it I was not going to be fortunate to get any sleep before the tournament and would be sustained only by 5 hour energies. The sun was out and anything was possible, set Terminus on cruise control and rubbed my eyes......

Game one I was unfortunate to have to play against my buddy that rode up with me. He sure didn't want to fight terminus first round. And I sure didn't feel like dealing with Mordikar much either lol. It was a quick game and there isn't much to tell. We both ran up he popped feat for +3 def and poltergeist and left Mordikar in charge range up Terminus with only one fury on him. I gave Terminus a re roll via Tremelous and cast ravager via the Skarlock so I could get the one model that was in the way out of the way. Charged and that was game. I couldn't afford to miss him but I only needed 8's and I had one re roll and I of course boosted the attacks. Worst case Scenario it was my feat turn and I would have been around arm 26ish if I had failed the assassination.

Game two It's either eButcher tier list or Infantry heavy Irusk. This was an easy choice for me. Take Terminus and go. I failed my turn two charge by about 1/8 of an inch and was under feat. His feat was up as well. I was able to purge and kill enough stuff in Terminus' control to gain around 8 souls and have 6 focus. The Beheemoth was dice minus 11 after arm pierce was accounted for. The demo corp walked into terminus as I was in their back arc and tried to do all they could but at dice something like minus 18 it was very unlikely. Next turn Irusk was removed from the board via the Lich Lord.

Game three, final round I am up against a buddy of mine that plays cryx as well. He had that pesky pirate list I see people talking about with pDeneghra and a pSkarre list. He decided if he was going to kill terminus the best bet was pSkarre. I persnally agree. Both lists had over 20 souls for me but at least Skarre's were harder to hit. Turn two I go in with a super death riden/corbued bile thrall and attempt to purge on about 10 satyxis between the two units. I learned today that purge is a ranged attack as it states on the very last line of the card and unfortunately did not know and got into melee with a blood witch prior to purge. So now Terminus on feat turn will only be arm 28 instead of 44 after all purging was accounted for. So much for smooth sailing. Nothing I hate more than losing a game because of ignorance. I surround Terminus with every bane I have in B2b with him. I'm not just going to had my friend the game. I was sure I had lost as the nightmare was excitedly awaiting beating on me next turn. I end turn and as expected he clears out whatever he can and goes for it. Nightmare is p+s 23 and is dice minus 5. he rolls decent damage on the first attack that he made a combo strike. And the second attack he rolls an 11 on two dice. Leaving me with 7 life. I am beginning to gain confidence. He misses his last attack only needing 4's to hit and does was he can with P+S soul hunters charging in dice minus 8. He fails to kill Terminus with the two attacks he was able to get on him as one misses and the other did minimal damage of any at all. His only mistake was moving Skarre in staring distance of Terminus. I have two choices on my turn, attrition him and ride the souls and kill nightmare which is the last thing on the board that can kill me and arm 14 with debuffs banes hitting him will destroy him, or kill arm 23 Skarre with my 10 focus. I go for Skarre. I give terminus all the necessary tools, a re roll, ravager, and send him in with his malediction up. He needs 7's to hit. Easy peasy. I boost damage dice minus 5 and do 4 damage to an already hurt Skarre who was not healed by the surgeons as they were too far away and busy doing other things. Next attack does 6 leaving her with like 1 or two life and I finish her with the last attack leaving me with focus to spare. I collapse on my chair and shake my friends hand.

Terminus, I never knew how amazing you are and how many different lists you are good at fighting! you single handedly achieved a gold coin. My Cryx friend got silver and my buddy I beat in the last round got bronze! So it was a good day for everyone! The two Cryx players place 1 and 2 and my Skorne buddy places 3rd. I get a free Desecrator and give the rest of my remainder credit to my Skorne buddy to add to his. What did I learn from all this? Biles can't purge on combat......yeah...I'll never do that again!

The look on a players face when he can just fly over their army and kick the casters teeth in cause mixed feelings when your playing friends cause yes he worked but kinda feel bad.

yeah. Terminus is awesome. Easily my favorite caster, and for the most part he does seem to do pretty well against anything, and at just about an point level. I walked through a friend's troll army twice, destroyed a buddy's eNemo list without skipping a beat, 86'd pThagrosh and his Scythean in the same turn and demolished kreoss like a stack of cards, with terminus taking out about..40% of their armies on his way to the caster. He's simple and straight forward, yet requires a certain skill to play, and his simplicity seems to make him infinitely versatile. Entertaining BR, too. :] and I feel dirty too...but it feels so right..

The stalker did nothing all three games. I figure he would be good for a couple of souls with his two initials but he was just hanging around watching everyone else. In smaller games like 25pts he does well.

yes and no. The biggest problem is avoiding those low probability assassination runs that other people send at you, because when you run him all day, all it takes is one person hitting that 20% odds to kill you. So the hardest part is minimizing the risk while maximizing your threat with him.

As for point and clicking him around the board there are a few things to watch out for. For the most part if you see little to no souls, jack casters, zaal, arcane assassins, you may opt to take your other list. After you have surveyed the lists your opponent has and you have decided to stomp down the field with the big guy you need to be ready to push him down your opponents throat. How much clock jamming can you do? I used the black banes to run up 14" and base as much infantry, solos, support as they can. If your opponent lacks magic weapons than you have been able to tie up a huge part of their army and it will take some time on their turn to free themselves from that situation. And now they are on the defensive. As for terminus first turn he casts malediction and charges up. Feel free to death ride an extra inch. Next turn most often I find that you can either charge in for the kill even before popping feat or at least pop feat and charge in anyway being central. Your opponent will most likely not see a bile thrall being advanced 3" from Madelyn nor the extra inch from death ride. If there is a lot of single wound infantry around that is a huge payoff. Even grabbing 4 meesely souls will put you at arm 30. Even a behemoth will be dice -7. And that is a bad feat turn. Now they are bogged down by 10+ incorporeal models. Threatened by biles upon advancing and have a camped flying monter in their face. Pass turn. Go! You have 10 minutes to figure out that situation.

That's pretty much how my games go with him. It works out pretty well. I killed a 7 fury morvahna today. It was splendid.

I think you could always make a list for teminus that didnt care what your opponent brought due to mercs. I mean then you just have to be semi careful not getting your living guys like orin, pirates etc too close to him. Then when youre ready to feat you can have a min squad of bile thralls purge on your own guys.

Enemy models die in Terminus control. You can't cull soul off of a friendly model or people would just bring droves of privateers for 10 for 6 points and have 20 souls min on feat turn lol.

Since MKII, I don't think any Cryx ability can get souls from friendlies.

The stalker is literally made up of all 4 jack points that Terminus has. Maybe drop or min something to get...dare I say it....gasp! a Seether! I have played a seether many times but never spent any points on one. teehee

I'm sorry Harvester allow me to translate my post: Even grabbing 4 meesely souls will put you at an effective arm 30 (Darragh Wrathes 9" bubble of -2 to damage rolls). And it is also safe to assume that Terminus is not getting shot at.
