Default How to make dwarves work?

I've played a few games with my buddy's dwarves. I love the models and i've been interested in starting them for a while, but in the games i've played, they just haven't seemed to perform well. I've been playing Legion most recently and they're about as far away as you can get from dwarves so maybe some of my difficulties could be attributes to the radically different play styles. Regardless, do you have any advice for running dwarves effectively. Advice for how to run them in Searforge or Highborne would be most useful.

It is highly recommended to start here :

That should answer the bulk of the questions you have at the moment.

After that, fire away!! Operators will be standing by...

Most dwarves can be very good. I'll never forgive what happened to the highshields though, or the release of the arty

Legion is a tough match up (so much speed), but it can be done.

Many purists will nay say, but I love both Gorten and Durgen outside of Searforge.
Huh. Six months away from Cygnar and I've forgotten how to win... until Kara Sloan goes all 'bullet to the head' several games in a row. It's good to be back.

Don't play Searforge unless you're an enthusiast.

Okay... You know things are screwy when I make the serious post, and nearly everyone else is the goofball. Must be some kind of cosmic rebalancing or something...

Buy them, play them, win. There are a few other steps in there but they are minor and not that really important.

The second you put a Searforge/Rhulic army on the table, you have already won

This is exactly the kind of thing I wish the Mercenary forums would stop saying to new players looking for tactics and strategy advice.

I would say if you like the dwarf casters, start with Searforge.
Not because it's the strongest way to play them (sorry Rancor), but because it teaches you how to play quite well.
You'll learn the mechanics of the dwarves effectively, as you'll simply need to use everything at hand in order to compensate the gaps you'll have in Searforge. Yes, there are quite a lot of gaps in there.
You'll eventually have numerous uphill battles, but with good aggressive playstyle and by using your whole arsenal of shenanigans you'll be able to improve a lot. Then when you really know your limits with a rhulic-only force you can expand into Four Star or Highborn if you wish and fill those holes in your army concept. You'll have access to Pathfinder, Magical weapons, Tough, high DEF, fast infantry and so on, that will allow you more success.
This may sound counter-intuitive, but by restricting yourself to Searforge first, you can build a solid tactical foundation for yourself with the stunties.
Then later on even if you wander into the broader contracts you'll still return to good old Searforge and enjoy the feel to a full rhulic force.

Yeah, I agree. Searforge is fun, and can work, but definitely you have to keep the perspective as to their many downsides abd poor matchups.

    To Shep & hjelmen:

I think it goes without saying that the only faction or subfaction in the entirety of both games to have just 2 casters is also the one that has the least versatility. It also goes without saying that if of those two casters, they hold the lowest, and second lowest focus/fury stats in the entire game, they are a bit more challenging to play with. And since the massively helpful "Searforge Commision" thread was already suggested, there is no point repeating it. So I figured I'd throw a little fun into the mix by merely suggesting that any faction that you find fun and interesting to play, is one that you will enjoy playing, and since having fun, and not winning, is the object of the game, I feel that's pretty good advice. That is what I meant by
The second you put a Searforge/Rhulic army on the table, you have already won
If you love your army and you're having fun, you're winning.

Since the OP feels this way:
I love the models and i've been interested in starting them for a while.
, I see no harm in suggesting that he give them a try based solely on that statement. There's no need to throw a bunch of 'WARNING" "DANGER" "CAUTION: HARDER PATH CHOSEN" stuff at him. I'm sure he gets that already.

Yes, Rancor, but the entire point if this thread was a request for info on how to win with rhulic models. Dismissing the very information needed as "minor and not really important" is not helpful.

To be fair, the OP didn't exactly give us a lot to go on in terms of offering help. Without knowing what problems he's encountering or where he's running into difficulty, how can we give specific advice? "It doesn't work" could be the result of any number of reasons. The best place to start is, indeed, the nicely written Searforge guide. I'm sure that if specific concerns are presented, folks here will be able to proivide more specific solutions.

Wait. Another Searforge player who can't roll above a 6? I already claimed that slot. Go find your own niche.

Seriously, though. Searforge is typified with lots of solid choices. Few good, a few poor, but most right in the middle.
