    Default Wrasslin' with the gators...

I'm a devout Cryxx player. I love WM more for my love of Cryxx than anything else though I do love the game in general.

Nothing about Hordes however has excited me enough to want to start a faction until I played vs Gators (Blindwater). It was a Bloody Barnabas list some months back and somehow I won but I was a bloody beat up mess for it.

Talk to me about Blindwater's strengths, weaknesses and specialties. I understand there is also an Undead 'lock?

I think I'm ready to start a Hordes faction....

We're usually outnumbered -- that might be real hard for you coming from Cryx.

Something else your not used to is ridiculously durable units in Posse.

With the correct caster/animus combo you can get the entire unit up to armor 24

You're not alone KS. There's lots of Cryx players that dip into Blindwater (myself included), and it does take some getting used to. First, you're almost always going to be outnumbered. Our bread and butter unit, the gatorman posse (GmP), is a 5 model unit, but one that is very hard to crack. Barnabas makes them very hard to touch with Iron Flesh, Calaban makes them stealth with Occultation, and Maelock makes them ARM ridiculous with his death pact spell.

Another thing that differs between Cryx and Blindwater is this: armor can be a huge problem. Our heaviest hitters are: the blackhide wrastler, swamp horror (sort of), and Barnabas to a degree. Unlike Cryx, with its ready access to debuffs, plentiful powerhouse units like banes, mechanithralls and satyxis raiders, Blindwater instead has to rely on brute power, charges and its durability to win. The only caster we have that can effectively debuff is Calaban, and while he's not terrible, he's nowhere near as good at it as the likes of Deneghra, Asphyxious or the Coven. High-arm, multi-wound models like man-o-war, exemplar bastions, trollkin champions or cetrati can really screw up your plans. We also lack fury management, so you have to be very careful about leaching and frenzy.

There are a few parallels between the two. One, Blindwater is largely fearless. Two, most of their abilites are geared towards facing off against living enemy models. This doesn't just mean that they're collecting souls or corpses, but rather, we also have considerably improved threat range against living models, and two of the most common beasts we field, the blackhide and bullsnapper, can charge them for free. There's also not a lot of shooting in Blindwater, so you need to get into the thick of it quickly.

NQ 41 has a good G&G article about the Posse, so I'd recommend checking it out.

And welcome to the scaly side. Down with the mammals. Down with the mammals I say!
The cycle we go through with every release:
1st stage - reveal - Wow! Look at the new toys.
2nd stage - spoilers - Booo! They're not as awesome as I imagined!
3rd stage - actual play - Okay, this thing's (usually) not awful.

To be clear, wrastlers and bull snappers can charge living warrior models for free, not just any living models. The bull snapper and posse additionally gets +2" movement when charging living models (any living models, not just warriors). There's a subtle difference in wording between man-eater (charge living warrior models for free) and blood thirst (+2" movement when charging living models) that I frequently mixed up when I first started playing.

And yeah, you're pretty much always outnumbered, even by lists that traditionally have few models. It certainly makes playing within time limits easier, though, haha.

I have that thinking too. I don't quite see the point of having a Green Apple Faction to play with, and then 'branching out' with the Red Apple Faction. All that money and time modelling and painting for not much freshness.

    Nice having you around

Ah, thanks. I hadn't spotted that discrepancy. *thumbs up*

Another difference is number of units. Cryx has a large stable to dip into. Gators currently have 3 heavy beasts and 2 lights. They only have 2 units to choose from. Granted when one is the posse, that makes things easier though... Both factions have access to wrong eye and snap jaw, but after that, there are relatively few solos. Gators also have virtually no shooting. We have a FA3 solo at 2 points for our ranged troops or the angry turtle (iron back spitter heavy warbeast), that's it.

We only have 3 casters at this time. Fortunately, all 3 are quite good. Calaban will "feel" cryx-like, maybe Maelok as well. Barnabus is a beatstick with anti ranged goodness and a nice feat for a melee centric force.

This lack of options has both positive and negative aspects. Positive is smaller learning curve and smaller financial burden. Negative is lack of options for dealing with certain matchups or potential to get stale playing the same stuff over.

What I did is make gators my primary Hordes army. I then branched out to some of the other faction's warlocks that would support good use of gators, particularly the gatorman posse. It makes you get some extra warbeasts with limited use, but it works. Kromac Kruegar and Baldur for circle are pretty good. For skorne Xerxis Hexeris aren't bad, but the fat man (Rasheth) is really good with them. His theme force even calls for minions.

You cant go wrong with gators!!!

@ Marshal- Best analogy I can give is my VC vs Ogres from my past gaming life. MY VC were 140+ models that always came back. Lots to move around even with trays. My Ogres were 42 models of beatstick, limited options but SUCH A PLEASURE to deal with . My SoB vs my Ravenwing;same analogy.

That's what I'm looking for with Gators. Small bunch of beatsticks!!

YEAH BUDDY! A close friend gave me a ridiculous gift and I am now the proud owner ofa bunch of pewter that adds up thus:
    I have:
    Maelok the Dreadbound
    Bloody Barnabas
    Wrong eye and Snapjaw
    2x Blackhide Wrassler
    Ironback Spitter
    Bull Snapper
    2x Max Gatorman Posse
    2x Croak Hunter Solos
    1x Totem Hunter solo
    and the Boneswarm

Now if I can just figure out how the **** fury works I'll be okay!

EXCITED! How the hell does this all work?
