    Default A "Tough" Cryx list!

    Alright I am a 2 feet kinda guy and when I do something it's generally balls deep Warmachine is no different. I never played before, saw a WE and proceeded to invest heavily in the hobby. In my jaded and recently opened eyes (thanks for urinating on my dreams WE Forum) I have already purchased a large number of our living servants (Drudges, Overlords, Trolls) I have browsed through the forums looking for some helpful advice on Drudges but it all seems to devolve into "take Bane Thralls" which while helpful to some is irrelevant to me as I want an army of models I like (sick of skeletons en masse, I have a preposterous number of undead from that other game system) and the Overlords have a rather magical Hellraiser feel that makes me all warm and fuzzy in side. Is there any unit combo's or players with more experience that could recommend a thing or 2 for me?

    Scaverous does a little bit for the Overlords in that their sprays are boosted on the feat turn.

    Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.

    If you are looking for an infantry heavy faction you choose well. If you are looking for our infantry heavy casters that run extremely heavy Terminus and pSkarre come to mind. We have a lot of units that regen or that can be brought back or made more of throughout the game. Here is a list of those:

    Drudges
    mechanithralls with necro surgeon(s)
    Bane knights w/tartarus
    Bane thralls w/tartarus
    black banes ghost raiders
    revenant crew
    captain regrave with rev crew

    Each unit has a certain roll and does something better than the other for the most part. Bane knights are better assassins than bane thralls. Bane thralls tar pit and are better vs shooting and hit harder per model. That is just one example of how even two different units that are both banes and both weapon masters share different responsibilities. It is not as simple as I like these models better. It is I need this job done. Or I built this list and it needs this so I need to take this unit.

    Tough is a trap, just saying.
    The reason Bane (thralls) would be suggested is die to the interactions of them having tough and dead rise.

    Otherwise, go with super debuff or super buff Casters...basically casters that make "anything" good.

    pDeneghra or Terminus. pDeneghra makes everything good and Terminus doesn't really care what's in his army as long as the Withershadow Combine shows up.

    you forgot about BloodGorgers and the good General Slaughterbourn. those are tough and are really good at killing things.

    if you want a tough army that can support Drudges, BloodGorgers, or whatever else you like, you can't go wrong with pSkarre. she makes everything we have into OMG amazing!
    though, if you are running Skarre i would suggest getting Saxon Orric. that pathfinder is worth its weight in gold. he also has a pretty nice gun and is very survivable.

    pDeneghra also makes everything awesome, just so long as she has a couple of Arc-Nodes and WarWitches to power them.

    Scaverous can do it too, but he is more of a toolbox and likes to bring a balanced force that includes a few heavy WarJacks and a lot of support.
    Your tears of nerd rage bring me such joy!

    I like running Bloodgorgers with Skarre, Asphyxious and Deneghra and Venethrax.

    I like them with Asphyxious and Venethrax because being a medium base caster who likes to play forward is sometimes very scary if you've got no medium base fodder to stick in front and block LOS. With Asphyxious the combo of Scything touch and Parasite and the Gang bonus make the Bloodgorgers able to wreck pretty much anything, with the other part of the gang bonus helping them to hit as well. And they have two attacks.

    With Venethrax, they are a great unit to use Soul Harvester on. and once again, medium base fodder to help from getting sniped.

    With Skarre 1, she loves infantry, and they are a nice infantry alternative to banes.

    With Deneghra 1, well she just makes everything better.

    I have used them with Terminus in the past and they aren't a bad choice, but I prefer an undead screen to take advantage of sac pawn, plus I also like taking undead units that can regenerate/replenish themselves.

    As far as the Drudges, I would not take them with any caster other than Skarre or Deneghra. Both can help them with their main weaknesses. Don't put much stock in the Death Toll synergy with the Overlords. The overlords have more important attack options (their spray, or Influence) other than trying to melee to create a new Drduge

    Overlords on the other hand are useful with just about any caster, and really shine for use on Deneghra's feat turn for either an assasination opportunity or to clear out large swathes of infantry.

    Also if living infantry is what your looking for, Satyxis Raiders with Sea Witch are a very good alternative to undead hordes as well.

    Yeah the melee on the Overlords kinda seems redundant IMO, I also have a unit of Bloodgorgers en route with their respective leader. I wanted them for the Medium Base size as I picked up Mortenebra as well (if I don't run tiered).

    I have no Banes (from what I was to understand they are rather popular in our Meta) I picked up the WE as a support character for my infantry masses as he provides an area debuff and fast movement(run my trolls behind him then F-O off to the flanks). I figured apon a Reaper and Seether as my Jacks for Denny neither rely on souls and the Reaper can pull apart shield walls for my Trolls and Mind Slaves. Or should I look into a long range threat to start harvesting souls early?

    Also am I dreaming in assuming that Mortenebra has amazing synergy with Bloodgorgers on feat turn!? It seems like a rock solid match up in my eyes... Also (Don't have the WE card yet) the Wraith Engine with re-rolls seems like a solid heavy smasher aswell...

    Morty is one of the only tier lists that is universal called amazing on our faction so I don't know about her and units but I have great work with her tier list. You can look into using it by all means we have some threads floating around with ppl using her in non tier format but I stick to pDenny or pSkarre for your infantry heavy lists.

    Cryx are tough guys. Tough guys wear pink.

    Apart from the feat, Morty does nothing for infantry. Combine that with the amazing tier benefits of taking no infantry, and it's no wonder most people don't look into it.

    Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.

    Well, we're a hard few who insist that non-tier Mortenebra is the superior build. Having an entire infantry list reroll attacks and damage can be truly disgusting.

    That was kind of my thinking, the Bloodgorgers already hit like a ton of bricks, give'em re-rolls and watch em slaughter!

    I had the idea of a tough list, you might want to check it out.

    Slaughterborn with nearly unlimited re-rolls... Bane Thralls/Knights with re-rolls... hell even our ranged options become dangerous with re-rolls.

    Maxing both units seems to be the logical choice.

    Not knowing exactly which models you own makes it a bit harder. I've had some ideas but knowing exactly what you own or would consider buying would be great, but I'm almost certain it has to be Warwitch Deneghra to work.

    I have a Reaper, Slayer, UnAssembled Hjack, one fully magnetized (can be any Hjack),Seether, Death Jack, Bloodgorgers w/Solo, Drudges x2 w Overlords(seemed better this way then taking 2 maxed out units...), 2 Spider jacks yet to be determined, WE, Mechthrals, Skarlock, WWS, Necrotech, Withershadow Combine, Denny and her associated Bjacks from the battle box, Mortenebra... And a whole lot of painting to do! My problem is I went out and purchased what I thought looked awesome and then figured I would cobble an army from what I had bought, so I have alot of selection (could easily run tiered Mortenebra now that I look at it all...)

    Tier Mortenebra could work but you can easily make something work with pDeneghra.

    Warwitch Deneghra 35 points
    - Deathripper
    - Deathripper
    - Deathjack
    Bloodgorgers (Leader and 9 Grunts)
    The Withershadow Combine
    General Gerlak Slaughterborn
    Skarlock Thrall
    Warwitch Siren

    It's not an optimal list but unless you're up against a heavy gun line with access to debuff removal you should be fine (fine being defined as: "game is decided by skill")

    *-unrelated: if you havent checked out the Overseer, click Lamoron's sig. It's fairly insightful.

    Is an Iron Lich Overseer ever recommended over a WWS? They seem solid enough and after how much of a pain in the *** they are to assemble I can only expect great things...
    I was considering running one of each in a Morty list.

    If I wanted a crab jack that wasn't a Harrower which should I build? I tried the Leviathan (proxy) w/ Denny in 2 games but he seems too focus hungry to get the most out of with her, as a matter of fact I can't think of a caster asides from Morty that he would run well with (everyone else seems to need their focus for blasting/debuffing) or is there something I'm missing?

    The Amphibious Helljacks are specialized and don't play well with most casters. Leviathans do well with eSkarre and a couple of other builds but mostly they need a list constructed around them (like the Terminus Gunslinger list). The Harrower shows up in 10/10 Mortenebra lists and quite often with The Coven, but other than that they're rare. The Desecrator is the new kid on the block but so far most people stick to Mortenebra with it.

    Originally I thought I could use long range to help harvest a soul or 2 in the early game for my WE but at such a preposterous focus cost I can't see it ( as in the WE gathers souls from his command range, unless I'm incorrect on that as well in which case... *looks longingly at his favourite sledge hammer).

    I did well at the 15 point mark 2wins but have suffered in the growing process (2losses) I feel like the pieces I got in the battle box work well and I'm using a shovel to eat cereal since I tried to expand, hopefully with a few more games I'll figure out which orifice I'm looking for!

    Oh and to Tough being a trap! Really!? I'm a DoC player amongst other armies in the WH Universe and I can honestly say, I don't rely on it but I can't count the number of times a 5 or 6 has taken a Hulk beer deuce on my opponent! (why is it a Hulk beer ****!? Becuase its incredible!)

    It is a trap if your list and gameplay depends on it, is all i'm saying. When support like Gerlak, Captain, Thrall Officer die, the lack of reveille makes it rather meh, unless your dice troll the opponent, which is stupid for all parties involved.

    Cryx
    35+5 points, 21 models

    Warwitch Deneghra* +5 points
    * Leviathan* 9 points
    * Seether* 9 points
    * Skarlock Thrall* 2 points

    6 Cephalyx Slaver & Drudges* 4 points
    Iron Lich Overseer* 3 points
    Necrosurgeon & Stitch Thralls* 2 points
    Necrotech* 1 point
    4 Scrap Thralls* 1 point
    Wraith Engine* 9 points

    Allright, I think I'm going to give this a whirl for my first 35 point game. Sure there no Trolls this time round but I'm going to go with some regeneration shenanigans (plus my Mech Thralls will be all painted up for this weekend) I picked a WE cuz I have it and it seems focus efficient when it comes to wiping out infantry or whooping the occasional Heavy (Fully loaded up on Souls of course) the Leviathen is going to be herded by my Iron Lich to keep focus demands down (and hopefully bag a Druid or 2) and a Seether basically runs itself. I'm hoping the Drudges can survive a charge from a Warpwolf long enough to get a counter charge and some debuff's off. No Arc nodes as I can't rally get the most out of them against Circle...
    Thoughts?

    Why do you have a Necrosurgeon without McThralls?
    Why are you putting a Leviathan under an ILO? When taking a Leviathan you'd want at least the option to load it with focus, now it's getting 1 pseudo each turn (yay) unless you get stuck in and collect souls, which would be weird, since you're probably hanging back together with the Leviathan.

    Also...

    Drudges will not survive a Berserk Warpwolf Stalker and you will not be able to retaliate because it will sprint away. If it's a regular old Feral Warpwolf then you might pull it off. Put the Leviathan on Deneghra and get the Warwitch Siren instead of the ILO. It's better, you can load up the Leviathan if needed, and Sirens are fantastic in general.

    Oddly enough I thought I did... Spaced out I suppose...

    35+5 points, 20 models

    Warwitch Deneghra* +5 points
    * Reaper* 7 points
    * Seether* 9 points

    6 Bloodgorgers* 5 points
    6 Cephalyx Slaver & Drudges* 4 points
    General Gerlak Slaughterborn* 3 points
    Necrotech* 1 point
    1 Scrap Thrall
    Warwitch Siren* 2 points
    Wraith Engine* 9 points

    That or I could drop the trolls with their solo for more Drudges and the over lords... Also does the WSC ruin the anti-magic effects of Circle? If so then I may have to go with the previously suggested list...
    Maybe I'll try both combos out...
