I had a real Gators painting vibe during the last week and I painted the following 8 models in one week time...super fast for me. I tried some other techniques on the crocs and it worked really well. Instead of starting with a basecoat, I primed them white and then washed them several times (with GW washes and Sewer Water from Secret Weapon Miniatures). I finished with a soft dryubrush and a thin glaze to kill the drybrush a bit.
To make the swampy bases, I mostly used the deep recessed bases from Fenris Games (best resin base supplier!) and filled it with 2-epoxy glue tinted with Sewer Water Wash. I dunked in the grass tufts and flower tufts from Mininatur. The ferns and water plants are paper plants from Ziterdes...they are fantastic They are lasercut and printed, so cut them out and glue them to the base. Finish with a wash and done.
Bone Swarm
Terrific model and fun to paint. Started with a basecoat of Foundry Bone B and washed it with Devlan Mud and Badab Black until the shade was good. I then started to layer the highlights, but this drove me mad, so I did the easy thing: drybrushing. I finished off with a thin brown glaze to kill the drybrush effect. I painted the eye sockets with purple OSL to tie them in with my gators (purple as secondary color) and all of my undead stuff will get purple glowing eyes.
Gatormen Posse
My second painted unit. I traded my first Posse with a friend for his unpainted Posse, so he had a fully painted Skorne list. Good thing is I had some new unpainted Gators on which I could try some new stuff. I made the bases as varied as I could and also used Woodland Scenics tree stumps. I used flower tufts to separate the three Gators with the same pose (one has 1 flower, one has 2 and one has 3). Handy for tracking damage and I don't need to number them (I hate numbering my models).
Bull Snapper #2
Not really a spiffy paintjob, but I'm happy for 2 hours work. Glad he's painted as I play a lot with 2 Bull Snappers. But hey, what Gator player doesnt.
Maelok's personal zombified Wrastler
Okay, the second big guy! I wanted to have a personal Wrastler for Maelok and I was really inspired by Gator_Dave's Wrastler (link). I love Dave's idea and I love Maelok, so I also had to do this. Thanks for the idea, Dave!. I took the 'Beloved of Sobek' from Crocodile Game (link) and I converted him by adding candles, wounds, hanging intestines and more bandages on his hands. The painting was straight forward, but really fun to do. I added OSL on his eyes to tie him in with my Gators and undead stuff. Then came the fun stuff: adding gore! I painted all of the wounds with gore, as if they are fresh. I just like them this way. I then used UHU glue with tamiya clear red for the stringy, messy stuff below his tail. You can make some really icky stuff, as if the Wrastler is leaving a trail of gore and mess behind him! The Base is by Dark Age Games (it's a painted resin base).
Next up are Wrong Eye and Maelok!
