Default What do you listen to while you paint?

As the title says, what do you listen to? I'm curious about the music tastes of the community at large.

I personally listen to a Spotify radio station based on the song "Quiet" by This Will Destroy You. Lots of ambient/instrumental stuff, very down-tempo

Sweet, sweet silence. 4:30 AM is good for that.

The above is my personal opinion, and in no way should be taken as representative of the overall Skorne community. Even when I claim otherwise.
Skorne on date ... when did Primal Mk I hit again?

I don't typically listen to anything that would disturb my concentration. I love comedy, but my luck would be someone saying something hilarious just as I'm about to paint an eyeball... and there goes the brush, woops!

I'm fond of movie scores. Some of my favorites include: Gladiator, the Last Samurai, the Lord of the Rings, Conan (the original), Tron, Transformers, and Aliens. I also enjoy listening to them during games.

I usually watch TV. Been catching up on old Buffy, Farscape, and watching the new Stargate Universe.

I find random docs to usually be the best, since actually watching isn't important. Ditto with the old buffy's since they spend most of their time talking to each other.

i usually just have a movie on in the background or an audiobook, something i can sort of pay attention to but not lol

i cant paint in silence, my attention will wander off and i'll end up stopping 10 minutes in.

That's a definite risk. Fortunately I tend to be unable to pay attention to more than one thing at a time, so when I focus in for detail work I don't even hear the comedy.

I listen to the Harry Potter audio books. I've listened to each book at least five times each.

I'll also put on one of my two favorite movies: The Fifth Element or The A-Team.

WMH podcasts mainly. I started with Boosted Damage episode 1 until I caught up. That took a while. Then moved onto Elite Cadre ep1 to current and then Muse on Minis. Currently I'm catching up with Focus and Fury, again as with each I started with ep 1 and right now I'm on ep 44.

I'll have to find a new podcast soon to add to the list. Any suggestions?

Sometimes I watch an old movie but usually I listen to music. The type of music depends on my mood though. Sometimes I'm in the mood for queens of the Stone Age, Boysetsfire or Ignite, but I also like Scandinavian Singer-songwriters like Rebekka Karijord and Nina Kinert. Or some drum 'n bass from John B. Or some old Depeche Mode or Smiths albums. I guess my taste in music is quite diverse :P

Usually my best work gets done listening to Guts and Gears. But I will put on Star Wars, Indiana Jones, or similar work movies*.

    * Work movies are movies I can mindlessly listen to while not watching.

Can you recommend any good ones? I've tried a couple, but either the production values were abysmal, or the speech was impossible to follow (or both).
Maybe I'm just spoiled from my voice acting training - I know that everyone in the world has a different accent, but diction is so important when trying to communicate something verbally.
I find that if I have to strain to make out the message, or if the voice is just plain annoying, I can't enjoy it. Am I expecting too much?
