I listen to Discovery's How Stuff Works Podcast, Stuff Mom Never Told You and Stuff you missed in History Class. When I'm waiting a few days for new podcasts to enter the queue, I listen to audiobooks. Currently relistening to GRRM's Game of Thrones. I also listen to movies and TV shows at home.

    Audiobooks are pretty awesome.

Star Trek (any series) is also good for this. The characters narrate their own actions constantly.

I listen to Voltaire, or have some awesome movie/series on in the background. But mostly Voltaire.

ha ha ha! I've been watching through Voyager. The acting and cinematography isn't "necessary" to drive the story. 95% of the time it's a dialogue driven story so I just look up every now and then to catch up. . Good series, Great writing, moderate acting... but lets not digress too much.

I also listen to audiobooks, or techno/trance music. If I can get lost in what I'm doing and focus, I can finish almost an entire unit in an hour and a half. (As opposed to just the commander of the unit in the same amount of time).

    Gregorian Chants or baseball.

I stay away from stuff that gets me amped. My highlights get really sloppy if I'm listening to metal.

If I'm listening to something while I'm painting, it's a podcast, either about Warmachine (Lost Hemisphere and Guts 'n Gears are the only ones that've stuck so far) or indie RPGs or This American Life or something like that. I've recently begun to sometimes watch stuff with my wife while I'm painting, but painting takes so much concentration that I can't really pay that much attention to what I'm watching.

Warmachine by Kiss!!! Not really, I usually have Dr. Who running in the background as I've seen every episode a million times and don't really have to pay attention. Just some nice background noise.

Also, TV shows which are strong on dialog are very good. I've really enjoyed The West Wing, The Practice, and Boston Legal while painting minis, and also The Daily Show and The Colbert Report (which you can watch online for free, with very few commercials if you live outside the US). More action-oriented TV shows don't work as well.

    \m/ Meshuggah \m/

This is one band I have always found great to paint to over the years. I'm a big fan anyway but there is plenty of other bands I love which don't go down as well while I'm painting. Meshuggah's heavy, progressive and mesmerizing songs are perfect for long painting sessions where I'm working away till 3 or 4 AM.

I also find adult swim cartoons like Squidbillies, Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Metalocalypse are good to watch while painting. The hysteria and abstract nature of these shows finds me having a big old gut laugh all of a sudden despite being red eyed and well tired.

Oh, and comedy of course. Bill Hicks is always great but I don't like to wear his works out. Doug Stanhope and Billy Connolly are very frequent comedians in my playlist.

Let's see... I haven't painted in a long time, but I have my playlist ready!

Pantera, Dethklok, Sepultura (when Max and Igor were both in it), Decapitated, Fear Factory, KMFDM, MDFMK, Machine Head, Killswitch Engage, Unearth, Amon Amarth, Mudvayne, Lamb of God, Deftones (only Adrenaline and Around the Fur, everything else sucks!), White Zombie/Rob Zombie/Scum of the Earth, Tool, APC, Trivium, The Union Underground, Rammstein (older stuff), Gwar, Chimaira, and last but not least.... BEASTIE BOYS!

Warmachine podcasts, mostly. I have other podcasts (some on other games like FoW, some onrunning, some on Disney) that I listen to as well, but I get more painting done when I am listening to a gaming-related podcast.

Usually NPR, The Daily Show, or Bones. But I will also listen to Guts N Gears if the episode intrigues me.
The forums seem to have one of two responses to new models. (A) "This model is worthless, I'll never use it." or (B) "That model is over powered, it's going to break the game." A few models get both responses, which ends up being really hilarious.
But what's wrong with saying "This model is circumstantially good and it's up to me as a good player to exploit its strengths and minimize its weaknesses"?

For those of you that listen to audiobooks, where do you get them? Amazon? I'm running out of muse on minis and my first love (focus and fury) only feeds me one hour of podcast on a quarterly basis.

Libraries are great places to get audiobooks on CD. Usually they have a network through which they can get media from multiple sources. And it's free!

Audio books are the key to sanity. Harry Potter, Wheel of Time, Star Wars... those are the ones I've listened to way too many times
Jim Dale is a fantastic reader, and I cannot wait for the last WoT book. But that's a tangent, ain't it...

Podcasts are great too, I just find there aren't enough of them at any given time without repeating.

I mostly listen to J-pop; as I don't speak Japanese at all, I can listen to it over and over without getting too drawn in. But an album I love to listen to while painting is Killing Joke's "Absolute Dissent", a right killer.

Old/doom metal... mostly Saint Vitus, Venom, Electric Wizard. Sometimes some upbeat power metal... Helloween and DragonForce in particular. Or once in a while, soundtracks... LotR, Conan, or PotC. Lately, for my piggies, I like Dethklok. They really jive with a Lord Carver feel.

You should add the Game of Thrones audiobooks to the list. Those were good... I've been listening to WoT recently, I'm nearing the end of Book 5. But that's ok, I've got until January to finish the audiobooks. And then - AMoL! (I've yet to listen to the Potter ones.)
