Default Rhuilc Red paint scheme idea?

So, I tried to paint my Gorton Grundback battlebox up on the traditional khaki color scheme - I don't know why, but it just wasn't doing it for me. Hated it. Didn't like the look, found the painting to be frustrating, so the little suckers are going for a swim in the jar of isopropyl.

But then I was thinking... I was looking at Gorton, and I realized how much his armor looks like a tiny Man-O-War suit! The other faction I play is Khador, and I can paint their standard red schem up pretty well, and it got me to wondering if it might be a better idea for me to paint my Rhulic force to match, or at least complement, the Khardic scheme. Maybe not all red, maybe red and grey (or black)... something that will make my Rhulic troops more visually stimulating and more cohesive with my Khador army if I should choose to employ them in that fashion.

Any feedback or ideas on this are welcome - as are any links to pictures of dwarves painted in a similar fashion. Thanks!

    That could be pretty sweet!!

Maybe a dark grey overall, and a deep crimson for the accent color??

So... basically paint them up like Assault Kommandos? That does sound pretty sweet indeed!
Gorton, however, has GOT to be painted up like a tiny MoW. Look at his suit - pretty close resemblance, eh?

Well, when they are done with their swim, I'll re-prime them and start over. I think I'm going to try a grey primer this time instead of black - wasn't liking the results with a black primer under my Khador models.

I was also disappointed with the way this Rustoleum black primer was working, too. It was rubbing off on my fingers when I'd hold the base - and when I dunked my Runners in isopropyl, the primer is scrubbing off with a toothbrush too.

So I'lll try grey next time - any recommendations as to a good brand? I'm hoping to find something suitable in a hardware store type of selection, rather than the pricy game store brands (also, it's easier to talk my wife into picking up a $5 can instead of a $15 one).

I recommend a full black primer, then 'dust' over the model with a white spraycan. Picks up raised edges, details etc.

But yes, RED DWARVES GO FASTER!

    I use this stuff :

    It's about a dollar a can at Wal-Mart...

I have been using this brand for almost a decade now.

A buddy of mine has an awesome method for a translucent glossy red. It actually looks really cool, likes his models are wearing red stained glass armor. I can find out how he does it if you're interested.

Yeah, that sounds pretty cool and I'm always interested in learning new techniques.

I also use the flat black enamel they make for when I need a black undercoat. This doesn't happen very often, but certain models just have to have a black undercoat... Damn Prima Donnas!!

Rustoleum painters touch sandable grey primer.

Best stuff I have used in almost 30 years of painting.
