Default WIP: Modular Mercenary Revoltech kit build

At least one person asked if I was serious when I mentioned putting Stormwall together with Revoltech joints, so I thought I'd post some pics of my primed Merc warjack kit with 4mm Revolver joints.

More pics and info in the album.

Revoltech is a system used on some figures in Japan, developed by a company called Kaiyodo. Revoltech's Revolver joints are sturdy plastic ratcheting joints available in a variety of sizes and colors; the chief draw for me was that they're flexible but not floppy, and provide a lot of grip while still allowing a lot of posability. I picked a bunch up in Japan last month specifically with an eye to the Merc kit and Stormwall. I've had some issues with magnets not providing enough adhesion, or being too loose about their axis of rotation, so I thought I'd give this system a try.

I have enough anime mecha models to understand the appeal of this. I think they'd be way better than magnets if they could be installed correctly.

Better-yet, I wonder if any companies have designed any small detachable-joint systems specifically for minis?

The real question is; Will they weaken over time?

Now THIS would be what would get me into pinning. These joints are the **** and I'd totally make the jump into getting a pinning kit and auger tools just so I can add these joints to my kits. Kudos, sleet. (whoops)

Is it possible to request some pics of some various poses, such as Plastic Nomad in the classic Nomad pose?

Revoltech joints are easy to get for me here. Do you hand-drill those holes or is that for a power drill? If you could make one, I'd be very interested in seeing a tutorial specific for Revoltech joints on 'jacks!

I used the Tamiya modeling power drill, as drilling that many large-bore holes by hand seemed like a recipe for carpal-tunnel syndrome.

You can get them from Hobby Link Japan. Their supply is a little hit-and-miss, though.

How are the various pieces being held in the model when you swap between them? If just friction, I worry about them coming loose after being put on and off a number of times.

I really like this idea though and am tempted.

For love. For honor. For Devilsquid.
