    Default gorten first try

I am a long time cryx player and I am looking to get out of the bane rut. So I really like rhulic models but want to make up for some of there weaknesses and so I threw this list together from the highborn list
    Here goes nothing

    Gorten grundback
    *Ghordson driller
    *Grundback blaster
    *Sylus wyshnylar

    Thor stienhammer
    *Ghordson basher
    Alexia, mistress of the witchfire
    Anastasia Di bray
    Nyss hunters
    Ogrun bokur
    Eiryss angel of retribution

The Nyss fit perfect with gorten making them much more difficult to deal with when they are immune to blasts while also providing solid shooting and fast weapon masters. Using Anastasia Di bray to maximize the assassination threat with gorten's feat, not really sold on alexia, seems to be a solid solo creating threats on her own while also being another fast addition to a traditionally slow army. What do you guys Think.

I think it could be okay, but Di Bray is kind of difficult to pull off.
If you are doing Highborn, I would drop her and Alexia, and take Lynyssa Ryssyll and Aiyanna and Holt instead.

Lynyssa's Hunters Mark will give 2 inches to anything charging the target (good for assassinations) and also Aiyanna can Kiss the target of said assassination so those Nyss all of a sudden are effectively PS11 Weaponmasters.

Very good on Gortens Feat turn, when someones DEF is reduced.

I took your advice and a bit more from a local rhulic player so here is the amended list

    Gorten grundback
    *Ghordson driller
    *Grundback blaster
    *Sylus wyshnylar
    Thor stienhammer
    *Rockram
    Nyss hunters
    Lanyssa ryssyl
    Aiyanna and holt
    Gorman Di Wolfe
    Eiryss angel of retribution

I have started ordering to this and am pretty happy but my next question is what would be a complimentary caster. I was looking at Magnus but have no real basis for that. What do you guys think?

Durgen of course. Nicely complementers Gorten and a very well-rounded caster.
Or if you want to invest more then eMagnus in Bad Seeds for a very strong scenario pair, or Damiano of course, one of our best casters.

It seems to me that one of the biggest weaknesses of mercs is one of their greatest strengths; character. Dwarf players love playing dwarves and,the same goes for pirates I like gorten's while not really being attracted to madhammer. I want to stay away from two dwarf lists and am looking for another contract. Thanks for the ideas I look toward to more ideas and checking out damaino

One caveat about Gorten and the Nyss. Sure solid ground is great for them but you have a very fast strike force relying on a very slow, very small bubble of solid ground. True, Gorten can usually handle being up close to the front thanks to his high armor and with Strength of Granite on himself he is a real threat to anything he get's into melee with including most warjacks. But he is still at risk being that close. I did notice that it looks like your second list is actually 3 points under. You could easily apply those points to a bokur which can take a potentially critical shot from something heavy hitting.

As for the human warcasters, I can't really help you with that as I don't have any experience with them. pMagnus looks cool on paper, as does Macbain, and Shae any one of which I would consider if I ever branched out into humans. Shae's new tier list in the latest NQ seems like it would be fun, and it would allow you to use some of the Rhulic stuff your already getting.

I double checked the points and its 35 on the dot. I understand the issue with my slow warcaster choice and spd 7 Nyss but they can charge out of the bubble if need be. Also gorten's feat can make up for it a bit.

The only thing you'll likely run Rhulic in a Madhammer list is Madhammer. You can easily run both at an event. Gorten is great for high armor targets, slower targets, and scenario play. Madhammer is better at higher defense armies, infantry spam, and overall better at combined arms. Plus Gorten does ok with Highborn, but I found Madhammer loves him some Kayazy and wants to play 4 Star.

Losing Thor hurts but it's just something you got to take the bullet on. That means you'll end up running something like Kayazy with Durgen instead to help make up for the damage output Thor can give to a heavy.

I run Gorten with Nyss and I love them. That takes out the need for Saxon or Rhupert (you can put them both in the second list if you want).

Bad Seeds is a good list but isn't as good at 35 as 50. 75 is great for Bad Seeds.

Another thing to think about is that Gorten loves Lesser Warlocks. They really help with his focus issues. You also don't tend to need Aiyanna and Holt with Gorten as he doesn't have issues with armor. Nyss have some versus range but not enough for a 4 pt invest. The Magic Weapon is nice but really I'd go with the second caster to have them.
