Gencon Event... Must not disgrace the Motherland...

Hello Komrades,

While I am still just a new recruit in the glorious armies of Khador I dream of bringing honor to us all in the upcoming "Wall" and "City" events at Gencon and I am ever willing to listen to good advice from veterans.

I will need to bring a 35pt army built (mostly) out of the models that I have. I am certainly willing to make an additional purchase or 2 if you feel it prudent, but I would like to make good use of what I already own.

Here is what I have to work with:

Kommander Orsus Zoktavir (Could probably proxy him as just pButcher)
Kommander Sorscha

1 Behemoth
1 Destroyer
1 Juggernaut

1 Unit of Widowmakers
1 Unit of Shocktroopers

1 Manhunter
1 Wardog

Your up for a daunting task - if that is your whole collection of models, you should get cheers for going to brave GenCon with this.

From what I can tell, your collection almost perfectly suits a "Heart of Darkness" Butcher list. All you'd need to take it to Tier 3 is:
- another Shocktroopers unit
- another Manhunter/Yuri the axe
- a widowmaker marksman

It would exclude the Behemoth (since it's not in the Tier), but I reckon it'd be getting the most out of what you have. The ST you could probably get from sb. else with the 2PBB (who optimally isn't quite as fond of them), so you could get them for a little less; the other two solos aren't that great a investment. The Marksman is a perfect addition to the WM, and with another manhunter and/or Yuri you're fulfilling tier 3. To get to tier four, you'd need another 2 warjacks without ranged weapons, so that's likely above your budget.

I just saw you're having eButcher, not p... I wouldn't try proxying at GenCon, won't work. It'll be easier to find another Khador player and lend pButcher from him.

Sure. I just don't know about the viability of the Demo Corps at min size, I'd rather have picked another shocktrooper unit (min) (which'd give you a point to upgrade a Manhunter to Yuri).

However, if YOU think it decent, I say give it a try (or five) and then apply corrections. Theorymachining is dangerous, and GenCon is not next week, so if you have the time, go practice.

Practice will also, no matter the army, give you experience how the respective army works, and in turn, make you perform better with it.

In all honesty I would just make the additional purchase of full Winter Guard, UA, and Kovnik Joe. It's a pricey addition, but it'll serve you well in the tourney and is a great piece to have in your collection for the future, and is very good with Sorcha as well as Butcher for the moment.

So it'd look something like:
pButcher
Behemoth
Juggernaut
Wardog
Full Winterguard+UA+ Kovnik Joe
Widowmakers
Min Shocktroopers

Or that same thing with Sorscha, whichever you like better, but I feel pButcher is overall a more solid caster than pSorscha. If you don't want to buy the Winter Guard, you could also go with Kayazy Assassins+UA for the same points but slightly less costly to your wallet.

I think I'll try to get in some Vassal games with both lists, see how I like each one and see how my wallet feels.
On that note, it seems like they only sell a box of 6 WG... that's kind of annoying if you're trying to buy a full unit of 10. :/
