I was thinking about how to use the throne and I found what seems to be a nice combo, I just wanted to know if it's working as I understand it.
If the throne is in Rhyas control area when she feats, it gains one melee attack (which is great by itself), but if it damage a model, it can be placed anywhere B2B with the model. Which means that it can charge at 12" (5" + 3" + 4" from melee range) and in the ideal configuration, it can be placed to the other side of the model. Due to the model attacked base size, the throne base size and it's melee reach of 4", it can target models really far away. And it has Pathfinder, as it's a Battle Engine.
It's not always possible to place the throne anywhere B2B with the attacked model (due to it's large base size) but it can gain a few inches of reach. In the best case, it can reach models as far as 5" (SPD) + 3" (charge) + 4" (reach) + target base size + throne base size + 4" (reach again, after being placed B2B. Against a large base model, it can reach 23" away. More than that, it has circular vision, which allows it to target anything around him regardless of orientation.
Basically, it can charge a large base opponent, hit & damage him, be placed, and make 3 more melee attacks in a really wide range. And if it has corpse token, it can boost attack and/or damage.
More than that, Rhyas has a useful spell for the throne, which is occultation. As the throne cannot benefit from concealment, cover and elevation and can always be targeted, even in melee, stealth is a boon against ranged attacks.
The throne, in 35 points game, is really good with low fury caster, as Rhyas. It can act like a beast without needing fury management and can even boost attack and damage like a beast with corpse token, can charge or run without fury but doesn't benefit from battlegroup spells and effects. But it cannot become stationary or be knocked down, which is great.
One question remains, if the throne kills the model, can it still be placed B2B with it before the model dies? If so, this can be a really one trick pony (but it need place for the base) but a nice one, really useful for reaching far away models, caster kill or decimate infantry. (with armor 19 and 24 damage, it can resist most non weapon master infantry)
To handle more easily the problem of the base size, you can charge edge of infantry unit and gain a few inches. Remember that the throne is pathfinder and can be placed in rough terrain without any problem...
Any thought about that?
