Default Trollbloods armies place high in UK Masters!

Trollbloods were represented in the Finals!

Two Trollblood players in the Top 8! [No other faction was double represented].

See this thread for more details: http://privateerpressforums.com/show...sters-coverage

    Congratulations to all!

I look forward to seeing army lists or battle reports if available.
It's always great to see the creative, or rather destructive, combinations and use of our Trollblood models!

I played against Phil Manwaring (who finished 2nd) in the opening round of the UK Masters with my Retribution.

Ravyn faced off against Gunnbjorn in the Bunkers scenario, the match was massively hard fought and ultimately it was forced to come down to 2nd tie breaker (models contesting the zones). He had 30 points to my 24, though ultimately I lost to a single damage point - one of the models contesting was a Blitzer left on one damage box.

Both of us had opportunities to clinch the assassination and end the game early but both failed to take it, I can safely say that the game against Phil was the most intense yet enjoyable match I have played all year. It was one of those games that left both players breathless, relieved that it is over and yet disappointed it didn't continue.

    His Gunny list:

Gunny with 2 Blitzers, 1 Bomber, 1 Impaler, Runebearer and another Bomber as reserve)
    Min KSB with UA
    Runeshapers
    Min Long Riders
    Whelps

Stoked to see trolls do good things at UK Masters. Good job to Phil M. and Andrew from RHQ. Know that Andrew ran Jarl/Grim/Calandra, not sure on Phil's lists...

I ran Grim, Jarl and Gunny. Will do a write up when I get some time.

Just an FYI though, yes 2 Troll players finished in the top 8. But only 2 other Troll players finished in the top half IIRC.
The other 11 troll players all finished low.

There's at least two errors in the rankings at the moment. Alasdair Johnstone beat Nathan (believe both are top 10) in their last game and I (Lee Palmer) beat Steven McConnachie (18th?). We were both entered as losses for some reason. I think Webby just hates me. Puts quite a few of us Trollblood players in the top 20 with Phil, Ash, Andrew Galea, Darren Palmer, and myself all lurking there on 5 wins/2 losses or better.

    Hey guys,

I just posted my UK Masters tournament report on my RHQ blog here.

I will be checking both here and on RHQ for any comments you guys may have. Interested to hear your thoughts.

Loved reading the report, and made me reevaluate my own game and what goals I set in my games.

Also looking forward to that director's cut video of the last game that you promised. I looked through the game on Steamforged, but it's hard to follow with all the noise in the background.

Yeah I agree regarding the sound on the video so a director's cut with commentary from Jamie and I will be perfect. Just waiting to get my hands on the actual footage first and will do it straight after that.

Interesting to me that both high finishers used both Jarl and Grim. I've always felt like they kind of covered the same problems. Surprised not to see a Madrak or Borka heavy hitter list in there.

I can only speak from my perspective and Jarl & Grim did cover different roles for me.

Grim was fantastic against opponents that scream towards you and are in your face. His feat would slow them down and his ability to ignore stealth meant he could make my opponent's important models that rely on stealth at bay.

On the other hand Jarl was great against opponents that want to sit back and not advance such as gun lines and other shooty builds. Quicken enabled my Kriel Warriors to run 16 inches when required so that fast movement of mass troops plus Jarl's cloud feat to give them further protection meant I could engage back units whilst hindering their ability to shoot me in the process. I also had Bog Trogg Ambushers in my list to further aid this rush (whilst also being protected by being off the board).

So the way I played them they definitely had different roles to play.

As for not having Borka or Madrak, I did explain it in my blog that Calandra effectively took that role. I almost simply swapped eMadrak out of my melee "brick" list and put in Calandra. Star Crossed gave them fantastic protection whilst her feat and re-roll ability meant they were greatly enhanced in combat.

If I had my time again I would possible swap Jarl out for one of the Doomshapers but Grim and Calandra would stay in their current roles.

    Regards,
    Andrew

Well played, Guns. Will definitely focus on snagging early points in my next tournie (though knowing me, I'll get my lock killed for it).
Huh. Six months away from Cygnar and I've forgotten how to win... until Kara Sloan goes all 'bullet to the head' several games in a row. It's good to be back.

Thanks for sharing those really nice battle reports Andrew! And well played!

Your tactic of an early CP and then grinding it out is so different from my experiences from my last tournaments its funny (last was a brainfart away from 5 of 5 wins on assassinations, 0 CPs..), and shows the variation possible within the Trollbloods.

I am interested to hear what warlocks you normally run to get the assassinations and whether you have a "go to guy" to get the assassination done. I am starting to plan for the Open European Team Championships which is using Deathclock so I definitely need to look at alternative play styles and possible builds.

@andrew: Tried to send a message to you regarding this but it doesnt seem to work.

Anyway, my main lock is Grim. I run him with Bomber, Impaler, EBDT and Pyre and "stuff". Lately I have used Burrowers with him, mostly because they rattle the opponents and thus enables easier assassinations. The key is Grim+Impaler+Bomber. Threat range is 18"/17" and when the opponents caster is within that distance I usually get them. The rest of my list either pile on the damage or most importantly clears a fire lane for Grim and the Bomber, Janissas Teutonic Shift is great for this, and the EBDT usually throws away a heavy or something.

With eMadrak I have had great use of the Impaler, double tap Rathok on feat turn with a total threat of 18" is good. The EBDT:s animus is good as well, its the only way to make Madrak move faster, got me a caster kill second to last tournament: animus from the EDBT, charge and kill a charge target about 12.5" away (gain 1 fury), tide of death, feat (gained 2 fury), tide of death another 1" and I had his caster. With eMadrak its more of a mind set - I always look for the opportunity to assassinate, most of the list can pull it of given Blood Fury.

Jarl is different. I find Jarl chips away the opponents casters, small damages all the time that gets them in the end. The Key for me here is pressure on the casters, a measly MB early on makes them camp or stay back, hampering their game.

Calandra I have not played enough to say much. I have assassinated with her, using befuddle to clear the lane and the bomber as the finisher during feat turn. I have never run two bomber, i like to have a melee heavy as well.

Hope thats what you were asking for

I think this is a key point here. Any time I see a caster sitting at ARM 16 or less, I like to try and get a magic bullet on them to keep them honest.

Agreed. Usually my strategy against Skarre, Denny, Haley, Sorscha, etc.
