When you trample through rough terrain, do you incur movement penalties? I under stand you can do it regardless of rough terrain, as the rule book says but it makes no mention of if you get reduced movement. One of my friends I play with says it doesn't, but to me it seems if that is the case then they should just remove path finder or something cause I envision people just trampling through rough terrain just to ignore it. (if this is the case then it is very, very , lame.)

You do get the movement penalty, and it does say it. Unless you have a special rule like pathfinder.

The person I played with said that since trample says you make a movement and not an advance it is akin to placing. He cited the part of the that separates movement from advancing.

A trample is an Advance. Advances are always voluntary movements by the player controlling the model.

Page 46 By any other name box

    Tells you what advancing is.

Placed on page 48 tell you waht to do then. It states that placed models are not considered to have moved or advanced.

Trample does not say place the model, ergo its an advance. I use the bold because the bolds are in the rulebook to denote keywords.

Trample on page 55 explains how it works, and it even uses the terms advances and normal movement.

Also, lets be clear what a SPD penalty is. Anything that reduces you STAT SPD prevents tramples and charges. You CAN trample through rough terrain without pathfinder, you just take the movement penalty associated with that (double inches)

I know man, and thanks really. I wish you were there to tell this guy.

His argument was that he was trying to split the hairs of MOVE and ADVANCE and thinks that since you move and not advance it does not check for rough terrain since in the trample section it mentions that rough terrain does not prevent you from actually making the trample.

I have read this book for a long while I did so for three weeks straight and got a decent understanding, all these post I ask on here are just to show to OTHER people that own the books out right that their views on them are wrong.

I lurk these forums often, and I see a lot of the same questions come up. They are almost all universally answered by "Read the rules section. the WHOLE rules section."

A lot of people make assumptions as to what the rules SHOULD DO, and pick out ways to argue that. These rules are very plain, with only a few quirks (that were errataed, be glad you weren't hear for the how to negate cover fiasco)

I've seen a lot of people say the rules need to be treated at literal. Perhaps if it said do that in the rule book it might help? Idk. My trample question was answered, thanks.

There is no need for a rule in the book to tell you to follow the rules as written.

It reads the rulebook or it gets the hose again.
