Help using my favourite models
Not sure if this should go here or in the list folder.....
Anyway I'm having trouble figuring out how to use some of my favourite troops/models, these being black ogruns and bloodgorgers.
I tried using a max squad of ogruns and a min squad of bloodgorgers and gerlack with pdenny and it was very very slow. It didn't help that my opponents army was mostly heavy beasts so the harpoons were useless and I have very little experience playing with denny. So I'm here for some advice, can they work well together? Should I stick with denny? I have played around with the idea of pGaspy, a couple of nodes and skarlock, min ogruns, min gorgers, gerlack, wws the combine and then some raiders + capt and witch to give some speed. I like the idea of pGaspy as ogruns have good mat, bloodgorgers have gang and raiders have cma so they all have good attack potential and pGaspy has the spells to let them dish out stacks of damage.
The current Venethrax theme force I'm playing, I have max Black Ogruns + 2X max Bloodgorgers. The Bloodgorgers, and Gerlak, get Advance Deployment from the theme force benefits, so I've been having the Black Ogruns be the 2nd wave. They're kind of a wall-of-wounds rolling up behind the Bloodgorgers to help with cleanup.
If it weren't a theme force, the Black Ogruns would start out in front of the Bloodgorgers, since they're faster. But if they stop to shoot, the Bloodgorgers are going to charge past them. On the other hand, I've had more success with the Black Ogruns if I treat them as a melee unit first, range secondary.
For now, I'd drop the Ogruns for now and max out the Bloodgorgers. As you noticed, the Black Ogruns are really only useful for dragging in medium based infantry, light jacks or unsuspecting casters, so they are very niche, while the Bloodgorgers are always useful (not our best unit, but decent)
pDenny and pGaspy should both work well with them. Denny works with everything and Gaspys weakness is that he can't help his units hit, but Bloodgorgers have Gang to alleviate that.
I would say that with pDenny, the ogrun shooting is very nice. IT takes a lot of counter shooting to take them down and if they dont kill what they shoot they get a second go at it in melee. I wouldnt take them for the drag, i'd just take them for the 80 wounds of shooting goodness!

I was confused by your reply there Cassiaus then I realised that was my fault.
The denny list has other stuff in it, a couple of nodes, skarlock, gorman, wws, and a min unit of croes but its mainly the ogruns and bloodgorgers with gerlack that I'm concerned with. The list can have other stuff in it to make it work, hence the raiders with pGaspy. Did anyone else notice that ogruns have base mat 7, thats the highest out of all our basic troops so they go really well with pGaspy who can help them dish out mass damage. With mat 7 and 8 wounds I dont think they are more than niche models they are almost heavy infantry...shame about the armour. Obviously they would go well with pDenny as well but really who doesn't.
The venethrax list theme list looked pretty cool for the odd game here or there but I dont own venny and dont plan on buying him.
So any ideas on what support they need for either caster? Solo's, raiders mech thralls as a screen? I also have terminus, eSkarre and eGaspy but I dont think they will go so well with any of them.
Last random question, the ogruns have CRA, if this is used how many of them get to make the free melee attack after a successfull drag, just one?
Just the one.
