Now from this, things don't look nearly as bad. While still not a fan of the size of Tor and Wrathar's legs, it looks like the awkward head poses are from assembly not sculpting.

About how big are these guys up next to similar models?

While we're on this subject, what's up with fell callers strapping gigantic torches to their backs? Is the answer lurking in the old Iron Kingdoms book somewhere?

I prefer to think of my fell callers "torch" as an Alpenhorn. Makes sense to me.

The one on the left reminds me of Jim Carey... These look like they'll be fun to paint.

Still not getting why the legs are so puny compared to the rest of the body, but the detail overall is nice.

Nice video! Are there still photos of these around somewhere, too? Was a bit blurry on some of the close-ups there.

Sorry guys, I'm disappointed by these. Far too much Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles aesthetic going on in many of the newest Trollbloods' stuff. Overly cartoony.

    Those faces are ridiculous.

At least the Mountain King is a saving grace.

Whomever sculpted these Sons of Bragg should be punched in the taint.

The models still look like garbage though.

The legs are the same size as general Trollkin, they've just got enormous pauldrons on their shoulders. The Sons of Bragg are entering the Shoulder Pad War for Trollbloods.

The legs are not the same size at all, proportionally speaking. Even the fennblades are all bending at the knee to give their legs some extra length. 2 of the 3 models are just badly propotioned.

The constantly and dramatically changing physiology of trollbloods is one of my only real complaints about our faction.

agreed. If you look at trollkin concept arts you can see that the proportions are actually really reminiscent of human proportions, except for the arms. whey they bigger at the wrist obviously and the forearms are equivalent to the tip of the equivalent sized human's arm.

Troll have big arms, not small legs.

Not really. The B13 were beautiful models just sculpted on slighty smaller scale. It happened to us with Janissa.

The Sons are sculpted by someone going through an Impressionist phase.

Wow....um....what? Everything besides the faces look great but those gommy shouting faces.....WHAT?

The detail is amazing, well above what we've had before. I had high hopes for these guys, I'll need them in hand before I can decide.

It used to be that your Fell Caller was a rally point, and fleeing troops would run towards then rather than your starting base edge.

Maybe I can put little bandannas around their faces and put them in high heels. That should fix it...

Yes it is from the IK and it is part of their armament. There is an early NQ (#5 maybe) that talks a lot about it.

Well I'm glad that the heads are seperate pieces, so it will be easy enough to change the odd screaming faces. dunno if there's any easy fix on the short legs though.

I'm not understanding the faces hate, looking like they are screaming... or Fel Calling if you prefer. A huge portion of their rules is Fel Chorus so it makes sense they'd be doing that action while they are fighting.

Oh I understand why they are screaming, the effect of it just doesn't appeal to me aesthetically =/ They seem very, for lack of better word, jowl-ly, too.

My local PG just e-mailed me, offering the SoB to me for some painting work. I didn't bother trying to coerce the MtK from him. I'm actually more interested in getting the SoB into play atm. So, so super stoked.

I think these models are going to look a lot better painted and in play. Their seemingly stubby legs won't stand out so much from an overhead angle. Also, I was raised in a loud-mouthed Italian family, so the stretched jowls look completely natural to me.

As an interesting aside, my PG was the one who snapped the photo of eGrim and Hunting Buddies artwork.

I don't know about that - the first pics we got were from an overhead angle, and people picked up of the legs pretty quickly. I still hold out faint hope for them because I like them rules-wise.

As they stand on my table I am excited to get them painted. I love the models and poses and how outrageous they are. They are just as rambunctious as you might expect them to be from the fluff.

My complaint is that I got into this faction for the awesome scottish sort of fluff and look of everything. They looked like actual humanoids, that could actually exist in nature.

Lately, we have been getting cartoon characters with impossible physiology (like the stubby legs, huge forearms, and impossibly massive jaws that apparently hinge like a boa constrictors) which is not my cup of tea.

I don't like being the "jokey" looking faction. That's one of the big reasons why I don't play the "other" game. I miss the days where trollbloods looked like people and not extra's from team fortress 2. every now and then a model like Janissa comes out though which still gives me a little hope!

Petegrrrr, I with you. I love our classic looks, and still love the Boomhowler and Company looks. They need to pull it back some and give them more of a humaniod feel to the trolls again. For the body mass that the Trollbloods are bringing now a days, doesn't really reflect the food shortages and hardships the Trollbloods are going thru. I don't even want to think about how much a Mountain King has to eat to stay over control.

In hindsight, Boomhowler and Co may have been some of, if not THE, best looking trollblood models ever cast. They were big and menacing without looking out of place or cartoonish.

    Such good models!

I'm with Petegrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr on this one. Might have to get rid of my Trolls... Fielding models I don't like aesthetically kills a lot of the enjoyment of an army for me. Before anyone says that's stupid to say, well, consider how hardcore some people are, and how rigid tournaments are, about having fully painted/based models before you're allowed to play. Aesthetics have a lot to do with this game for a lot of people, and I am one of them. Ironically, I couldn't care less if my opponent's models are painted or not, but I want my models to look good with or without paint.

Nothing wrong with picking an army for aesthetic reasons. If you're going to invest the time and money into painting them, I think it's an absolute must that you enjoy the look of them.

I picked trolls because of the looks of the beasts and some of the warlocks. Fennblades are an amazing looking unit, some of the others leave something to be desired as they are cartoony. This is why I only play the burrowers out of the pyg units.

I have to ask, is it JUST the aesthetics really weighing that much? It is a major part of choosing an army, but when push comes to shove it can be worked with and fixed.
