    Default Digital Rulebooks For WMH?

I found out that GW will soon be making their rulebooks, codexes, etc. available on the iBooks store. Good fellows, methinks the gauntlet has been thown!*

More seriously, does Privateer Press have plans for digital publishing of their rulebooks, forcebooks, No Quarter, etc? I'm still a new player, but I know myself and I'm the guy who will eventually pick up every rulebook. Being able to have the books on my tablet means that much less I have to bring to game. (And a digital subscription to NQ would be awesome!) Not that I probably won't have the physical books too...

*I must, however, say "Bad form!" and call GW bad sports for the timing of their announcement. The email informing me of this went out at midnight last night, right in the middle of Lock 'n Load. I don't know if the timing was intentional or not, but it certainly could be interpreted as an attempt to steal PP's thunder.

I sincerely hope so, but I'm not holding my breath.

There is a thread that pops up about once a month with the same question, and then there is a lot of argumenting about whether or not copyrights will be broken, people point out that all the books can already be downloaded from torrents or warez sites, a bunch of people chime in to say that they hope it will happen, and others stop by to say it will be the end of brick and mortar stores all together if they do it. There's usally also some discussion of having the mini rulebook available for purchase.

Quite a while ago, I think a PPS popped in to say that they wouldn't, but since then they have released War Room info. From the video, it looks like they plan to distribute NQ magazines using War Room, so I would not be surprised if rule books made it in there some day.

I love having the Steamroller PDFs on my kindle, and cannot wait until the rulebooks are there as well.

They've said quite a few times that there will be no official digital rule books. I think War Room will be the closest thing we'll see to a digital rule book from PP. I don'tmind that at all to tell the truth because WR is supposed to be updated constantly and that should mean I won't have to continually buy digital books as new rules come with new books.

As long as War Room has a searchable database for all the rules I'm cool with that being the only digital supplement, though I'd love to see an iBooks version of the core rules.

GW Announcement emails always go out at 12am Saturday morning, nothing sneaky about it.

The problem with digital distubition is that none every one has a ipad/tablet so a company has a smaller audience for what is essentially a luxury item.

Warroom will be good though and will be the counter gauntlet .

Yar, there are those who say hundred dollar purchase on accessories, be it bag or e-device solely for Warmachine apps and files, could have been spent on an army. Then there are those who spent thousands on an army, and now that same hundred dollars was spent in tax (or shipping); All 15 the Mk. II books comes to $525-675 dollars, what's $50 more for a bookshelf to store them on, or a quality bookbag to tote them in? So even if you only buy electronic Prime, yer Faction book, Wrath, Colossal and Warroom for $200 its not just for the smaller audience to find 25% more for a used tablet? Electronic files needs the shelves before you buy the books but in the end it is the same. (Unless you have yer books on the floor... dunno how that translates into a digital world? Only having the files on yer homebound desktop?)

But anyway, so so excited about digital everything. All in due time, but please please bring on all the IKM rulebooks, IKR corebooks, future No Quarters, IKRPG supplements, backlog No Quarters... ::happy dance:: Ooh and an app that syncs with yer calendar and GPS to let you know about upcoming events and present games based on location.

P.S. Can someone do a clip show of PPS people saying 'Not right now' to digital and end it with this last one all bombastic ala Hypnotoad?

Digital is fine as long as it doesn't replace the books. I love my books. And they love me.

Whatever you decide to do please don't lock it into an Apple based format. I, and I suspect a few others, don't like the way Apple does business and refuse to buy their products.

To be honest, War Room was something last time a thread like this was addressed I wanted (an app with all the cards in it). We're getting that.

Digital distribution would be a great way to get some things like th eanthologies out. And I think digital versions of NQ for things liek Google Play or the iTunes Newstand would be nice to see myself. All the all, glad to see PP looking into new ways to distribute their products.

    And stuff.

+1 and agreed with. Apple does not play nice. Besides which, I've already got a Kindle Fire and won't buy another tablet to have the books on it.

I agree with trying to eventually be platform agnostic, but they've got to start somewhere, and for colour large format books the market is basically the iPad. Maybe war room will have a digital book area.

Considering that they're ensuring War Room works for Android as well as iOS, I don't forsee this being an issue.

I would love digital copies of the WM/Hordes books. This way I can have something on my computer/tablet to read if I don't have my books on me.

Well look, War Room is going to be Apple & Android, right? There's no conceivable reason that PP would then go on to release new stuff (digital books, NQ, etc) just under the iOS umbrella.

Also, I would love digital books. I mean, digital books that I can kick dollars to PP for.

Same here, love the feeling of taking one of my beloved books just for reading the fluff. However, when making army lists, I can definatly see the benefit of digital tools like iBodger and soon Warroom.

SO a perfect solution; add in a code in each book, so that people who buys the books also get a digital version! That way the customer supports the local store AND gets the added benefit of having his/her book on a device.

As long as I can buy a digital only version cheaper I'm fine with that, may be a pain to administer though.

I for one would take an interactive apple iBook product, haters gonna hate on apple but they give the tools to package your content for free and are by far the market leader in units sold.

I'm not a customer of war machine stuff yet, i actually stopped by here after seeing it in a local shop and being intigued at the concept my biggest personal challenge is that I stopped buying paper books years ago and would love to have both the rylebooks as well as your magazine content electronically. I travel for work and carrying stuff to read sucks so electronic format is great

God i hope they do this sooner then later. It will be so much easyer toting around a Ipad then carrying rule book + faction book for 3 factions and expansion books. My messenger bag is getting pretty damn heavy with everything.

Digital rules would be great for many reasons. The biggest impact i can think of is search. Finding a rule would be really easy. I also trust that PP will learn a lesson from GW's current digital codex release. I have to say that the GW release makes Warroom look like a steal. You basically get all the functional information from all the PP forces books for $20 more than just the one GW Codex. HA

Digital rulebooks a possibility, huh? If that's the case along with the cards in War Room, that would pave the way to save money AND TREES on paper needed to make books and cards.

Oh trust me, I'm nowhere near proposing the death of print rulebooks! I love the smell of a new rulebook too much to suggest that. However, digital should be available if people want it. I'm just often in a situation where it's more convenient for me to pull out my Kindle than to pull out a rulebook.

I suppose making the rulebooks available through War Room might be okay, as long as it doesn't delay War Room any further. That'd be something for an update to the app at a later date.
