Default The Creator versus the Devourer - 35 point Menoth v. Circle (Pic heavy!)

35 Point Battle Report – Protectorate of Menoth v. Circle of Orboros

    The Lists:
    Protectorate –
“BENEATH A VEIL OF FLAME AND A CLOUD OF ASH, HE WILL WALK AMONGST THEM. THEIR FLESH WILL BE AS DUST ON THE WINDS.” – THE CANON OF THE TRUE LAW

    High Executioner Servath Reznik
    Redeemer
    Reckoner
    Vanquisher
Choir of Menoth (Leader & 5 grunts)
    Vassal of Menoth
    Vassal Mechanik
    3 Wracks
    Madelyn Corbeau, Ordic Courtesan

    Circle –
“BE WARY OF THE PEOPLE OF THE DEEP WOODS. SOME HONOR ANCIENT PACTS WITH STRANGE MASTERS, AND THEY BROOK NO INTERFERENCE OR QUESTIONS.” – PROFESSOR VIKTOR PENDRAKE

    Kromac the Ravenous
    Pureblood Warpwolf
    Ghetorix
Wolves of Orboros (Leader & 5 grunts)
    Wolf Lord Morraig

    Deployment:

The only major terrain feature to note is the water, which was decided to be shallow. After a roll off, the Menoth player elected to go first. As the picture shows, the Menoth forces are clustered fairly close together, while the Circle forces are spread out along the front edge of his deployment zone. The wracks were then advance deployed to guard the Protectorate flanks.

    Default Part 2

    Turn 1 ?
MENOTH: Reznik allocates one focus to each warjack and leaves three on himself. All three warjacks run up and end their activations, followed by Reznik moving and casting Iron aggression on the Reckoner before ending his activation. The Choir runs up, as do the vassal, the mechanic, and Corbeau. Kill Count ? 0-0

CIRCLE: Morraig runs up to seek cover in the woods, as do the Wolves. The Pureblood activates and chooses Spellward for his warping before moving up and riling for three fury. Ghetorix activates and chooses Hyper Aggression before moving, using his animus, and riling up to four fury. Kromac activates, moves up and casts Inviolable Resolve on the Wolves and Wild Aggression on the Pureblood (after the game we realized he couldn?t do this, but it made no difference at the time), then casts warpath and ends his activation, passing the turn. Kill Count ? 0-0

    Turn 2 ?
MENOTH: Reznik maintains Iron Aggression, allocates three focus to the Redeemer, one to the Reckoner, and keeps one for himself. The Choir moves up and sings Battle Hymn, followed by the Reckoner moving and targeting the Wolves with its ranged attack. They?re within range, and the Reckoner hits with a boosted attack roll, killing one Wolf. The Redeemer forfeits its movement to aim and shoots into the woods at the Wolves unit, but misses. The blast deviates 2? directly away, hitting two Wolves and kills the first. The damage on the second is boosted, and this kills the other wolf. The Redeemer then buys a second attack, boosts to hit another wolf, and kills it with a direct hit before ending its activation. The Vassal then activates, moves, and uses Enliven on the Vanquisher. The Vanquisher then moves up, shoots at Morraig; however, he?s out of range and the template deviates into empty space. The Mechanik, Reznik, and Corbeau all move and forfeit their actions before the turn is passed. Kill Count ? 4-0

CIRCLE: Kromac leeches seven Fury. The Wolves run up into melee range with the Reckoner; Morraig charges the Reckoner to flank with the Wolves. His initial attack hits, rolling five dice for damage, but only deals 29 damage, for a total of 10 over the Reckoner?s armor. Despite the poor roll, this is enough to cripple the Reckoner?s left arm. Morraig?s mount then makes its attack and deals 25 damage, crippling the Reckoner?s movement system as well. Kromac then moves into the woods and casts Rift on the Vanquisher, but misses and deviates onto Morraig, dealing no damage. A second casting of rift deviates completely off target to hit nothing. The Pureblood activates, gains Ghostly, advances, and howls at the Vanquisher. A boosted attack and damage roll deal enough to get five damage through onto the vanquisher, after which the wolf riles up to three fury and ends its activation. Ghetorix then gains Hyper Aggression, uses his animus, runs, and riles up to four fury before the turn is passed. Kill Count ? 4-0

    Default Part 3

Turn 3 – (Note that at this point, both players feel the need to “check their control ranges”….twice.)

MENOTH: Reznik maintains Iron Aggression, allocates three focus to the Reckoner, one to the Vanquisher, and one to the Redeemer. The Mechanik activates and goes base to base with the Reckoner and repairs six damage on it. The
Choir moves and sings Battle Hymn again, followed by the Vassal moving base to base with the redeemer and using Enliven on the Vanquisher. The Redeemer shoots at the remaining Wolves, missing and deviating to hit nothing. The Reckoner attacks Morraig, hite for 25 damage, buys a second attack which also hits for 25, forcing Morraig to dismount and fall outside of the Reckoner’s melee reach. The Reckoner then buys a third attack against a Wolf and kills it, and finally buys a fourth attack to kill the last Wolf before ending its activation. The Vanquisher walks into combat with Morraig, hits with a boosted attack roll and kills him. Reznik and Corbeau both run away from the front lines before the turn is passed. Kill Count – 7-0

CIRCLE: Kromac leeches seven fury and maintains Warpath; the Pureblood activates, gains Warp Strength, and charges the Vanquisher. Its initial attack hits and deals 33 damage, pushing 14 through his armor. Enliven triggers and the Vanquisher moves out of melee, leaving the Pureblood to rile up to three fury. Kromac then moves forward, casts Wild Aggression on Ghetorix, and casts Rift targeting one of the Choir members, which results in a direct hit, killing the targeted member and threatening the Redeemer and a second Choir member with blast damage, but doing nothing to either. Reznik’s Witch Hound triggers and Reznik moves forward, while Ghetorix advances three inches because of Warpath. Ghetorix activates, gains Warp Strength, uses Ornery, and charges the Reckoner for free because of Wild Aggression. First attack hits, deals 34 damage; the bite attack hits but causes no damage, and Ghetorix is forced for another great axe attack, which hits, dealing another 29 damage with a boosted damage roll and wiping out the Reckoner. Warpath triggers and the Pureblood advances three inches towards the Choir before the turn is passed.
    Kill Count – 7-2

    Turn 4 -
MENOTH: Reznik allocates 2 focus to the Vanquisher and keeps 4 on himself. The Mechanic moves base to base with the Vanquisher and repairs it for five. The Choir moves and sings Battle Hymn again, followed by the Vassal moving and casting Arcane Bolt on Ghetorix for one damage. The Redeemer moves and shoots and Kromac, but misses and deviates into nothing. The Vanquisher then boosts a slam attack roll against Ghetorix, who is hit and slammed six inches away, killing a Choir member with collateral damage and suffering no damage himself. Reznik then draws a focus point off one of the Wracks, which does not explode, and casts Engine of Destruction on himself before charging Kromac and winding up within melee reach. Purgation takes effect and Reznik kills Kromac with a single attack for 32 damage.
    Kill Count – 8-3

Final Result and thoughts on the battle

    MENOTH VICTORIOUS!

This is the first report I’ve done of a game I wasn’t playing in, and it was an interesting experience. I think if I do it again, I might ask the players for the ideas and thoughts pre- and post-battle, similar to how NQ reports are done.

From my perspective though: Playing conservatively worked really well for the Menoth player (mactac on the forums), and I think that’s reflected in his overall superior kill count, as well as his ultimate victory. The Circle player was on the right track, but seemed to have over-extended a bit towards the end, leaving Kromac open for the assassination run. In terms of playing against Reznik, keeping a caster screened as well as possible and being cautious with upkeep spells seems to be the name of the game. Against Kromac, not letting him hit combat until you’re ready to deal with him seems like a winning plan (when one can play so straightforwardly).

Thanks for reading, and keep an eye out for the next one! If you have any comments or criticisms, feel free to let me know!

They were working when I posted it, but now they aren't working for me either...glad to see it's not just my computer or something! I'm working on a solution, they should hopefully be up again soon!

Edit: Ok, now they're working for me, but I only changed one set of links...if you're still having problems, let me know!

I think that's the only time I've ever heard of a Vassal using Arcane Bolt haha. Nice BR.
