Default Cygnar Blog for the Maelstrom ETC

    Hi guys,
I'm part of a team heading to the Maelstrom ETC in a month or so, and since seeing the spoilers for Nemo3 and the Stormwall, I decided to ditch my trusty Circle army, and aim to be 'that guy' rocking the Nemo3 tier list including Stormwall, two weeks after they come out...

I had a small Cygnar force in Mk1, and updated it slightly when the faction book hit, so I'm not starting entirely from scratch, just almost.

    Here's my planned list:

    Nemo3
    *Finch
    *Stormwall
    *Stormclad
    *Lancer
    10 Stormguard
    4 Mechanics
    Arlan Strangeways
    Junior Warcaster
    3 Stormcallers

    Reinforcements:
    *Lancer
    2 Storm Towers

This is tier 3, I think, by the way, saving a point. If (for some reason) I haven't managed to get hold of Colossals by the ETC then I'll simply drop a Stormcaller.

So... I've already got some of this, and I've spend this weekend getting it up to scratch:

    Stormclad

    Lancer

    Stormsmiths

    Junior

    Arlan Strangeways

    Flags/Objectives

...Leaving me 18 models to paint in almost exactly a month.
Admittedly, one of then is pretty gigantic...

So, this will track my inevitable failure for your amusement.

    Wish me luck!

Those are glorious! One suggestion, though: a Hunter might make a better reinforcement. It's more mobile than a Lancer and will be in control range no matter where you send it, while a Lancer may require Nemo to extend his control radius in order to bring it into range. Otherwise, a good cNemo list to my mind.

Looking forward to seeing how you get on with this, was awesome seeing some of your Circle 'in the flesh' at the ETC last year and SmogCon earlier this year, all the pictures I'd seen previously don't do them their full justice.

Fingers crossed you get your Stormwall completed in time for the ETC so we can ogle it!

Stormwall and Nemo3 arent released before list hand-in due date .. so not allowed for Maelstrom ETC:/

The ETC rules have been changed recently (through much hoo-haa on twitter), and there is now no list-submission, they will all be checked on the day.

And sadly I can't take a Hunter in Nemo3's tier, or I probably would. I might go for a Firefly and Catherine Laddermore, but that would necessitate buying a new Lancer as well (I think my FLGS has an old Lancer still on the walls, but there are definitely no old Fireflys...!).

Cheers Feiss, I'm looking forward to the challenge. If all else fails I'll be rocking out with Kromac, as that's all painted anyway...

As far as progress, today I'll (hopefully, if the shops are open on a bank holiday...) be picking up most of the list, excepting Nemo and the Stormwall... Then we'll see about building it!

I would definitely do a firefly and Laddermore as your reinforcements

Sadly, my flgs was not open today (stupid bank holiday), so no progress.
Well, there was (is) a minor tiff brewing about the use of Arlan Strangeways (as we can't duplicate characters in the team), but that shouldn't be a big deal...
The way I see it, my jack will be bigger, so needs the best mechanics on offer...

    So, finally, some progress...
Not as good as I'd have liked, but we're getting somewhere.
I'd feel a lot better if I had full weekends in the near future, but I'm running the London Steamroller Series heat 2 next weekend, then have my GFs birthday the weekend after, which means I'm unlikely to get much painting done on those two Saturdays...

    Erk.

Apologies for the slightly rubbish photos, they're phone-cam I'm afraid.

Revised list (apparently I'm not allowed Arlan ;_; ):

    Artificer General Nemo (+3)
    *Finch
    *Stormwall (19)
    *Thunderhead (12)
    *Lancer (6)
    10 Stormguard (9-1)
    4 Mechaniks (2)
    3 Stormcallers (3x1)
    Journeyman Warcaster (3)

    Reinforcements:
    Stormclad (10)

I still don't own the Thunderhead, 4 Stormguard (although these are hopefully on their way), and of course the Stormwall, Nemo and Finch.

The Stormguard I have got have had their fabrics finished off (although you can't see very well in this pic), and the metals ready to be highlighted. They still need blue and black armour (black shoulder pads, I think), then white detailing and lightning-effects.

The Mechaniks aren't too far off... Face details for the Chief, and the Gobbers skin has come out a bit dark, so needs revisiting. Then it's denims, battering/highlighting the leathers and finishing off all the various details...

...and I've been getting the bases for everything bar the Stormwall ready to go. This one is for the Thunderhead, inspired by the awesome art he got in FoWM: Cygnar.

...guess I'd better try and get as much of this all done next week, then...

That's a really nice scheme you've got going there, and very well executed. I look forward to seeing your storm wall.

You have chosen a nice set of colours for these. The dark silver gives a nice contrast with the blue and white. I expecially love the objective markers. Did you make these yourself or buy them somewhere?

    Cheers guys!

The objectives are Tank Traps from Forge World, not sure if they still make them or no though.
It would be quite easy to make some out of plaster, though, I think, if you wanted.

    So.
Turns out something I'm rubbish at is updating blogs. Who knew.

    Progress on the Stormwall:

    And a finished Thunderhead:

Also got my remaining SG built and up to the silvered stage, and about halfway through the Storm Pods.
Nemo3 is on order (I'm pretty anxious about him now, but I went and dug out Nemo2 and a Squire that just need some rebasing, so it's not necessarily a total disaster yet...).

Stormwall looks great! I love the chess piece on the carapace. One question - can't tell from the photo - is the white shine on his head painted on or from your camera flash? If it's painted on, that's a GREAT touch!

    These models look great!
I'm a huge fan of your Stormclad conversion; I really want to buy another plastic 'jack kit just to make it into a Stormclad that doesn't look terrible! The LoS markers on your bases are fantastic as well!
    Keep up the good work!

    Cheers guys!
@Nuriochi: he's got a bit of a highlight on the end of his head, but the lighting is exaggerating it quite a bit. I think it's closer to reality below...

    And he's done:

Well, for now anyway. If I get the Stormguard and Nemo finished really quick then I'll go back and touch up/dirty him a bit more.

I'm relieved to have him finished though, the project is feeling a lot more achievable now...

I like those objective markers (and everything else) Are the markers just made from a bit of cut foam or something else?

Love the Stormwall. That is similar to how I plan to paint mine, black and dark dark dark blue with ultra-bright blue electrical bits. We'll see how it turns out. I have a Thunderhead in that scheme that's my test model, he's not quite done.

Love the rich blue on the Stormwall. What colors were you using?
So play like you've got a pair, or put down the metal and go find something made of plastic.

Cheers guys, it's encouraging to see the comments ^_^

The blue is done with Vallejo Model Colours, Dark Prussian Blue mixed into Dark Blue, then mixed with Sky Blue, then finally pure Sky Blue for the final highlights.

I'll try and take some better quality photos when I'm not spending every minute I'm at home painting...

    Wow! Fantastic blues!
They look menacing with the blue and black combo, superb work!

(Thanks to you, I almost need to buy myself a Stormwall even though I don't play Cygnar. It makes me think of Optimus Prime.)
