Default Is Cryx the bane of Trolls?

Been playing a little over a year now. Started with Protectorate and picked up trolls a couple of months ago. I have a friend that plays cryx and I have played a few games against him with trolls and I just can't beat him. I've beaten a good amount of people with trolls, but can't seem to take on Cryx. I play my Protectorate against them and do just fine. Is Cryx generally a bad matchup for trolls?

I certainly get my face mauled whenever I play Cryx.
Started winning recently though; the secret is to run nothing but threats.

incorporeal is due to our faction's lack of magic weapons. You do have to change your playstyle when facing them though depending on what they bring to the table.

I generally see Satyxis, (which make my bomber mad) Bane Knights/Thralls, Pistol Wraiths. For casters I normally see both Denny's, both Skarre's and Coven.

Yea, those are pretty much all rough match-ups for anyone, let alone trolls

I melt them with my eFeora list. I can let errants and my jacks ignore magic, set their stuff on fire from far away. I generally do well with Feora. I just can't seem to get it done with trolls.

From the limited experience I've had against those guys, I've had good luck with Grim Angus for my money. It depends a little upon the situation (although I guess you could ALWAYS say that), but Grim's had good luck for me at taking out pesky UA's (Hello you Satyxis *****), particularly when someone doesn't respect Grim being able to move 6" and fire another 17" (Impalered) and leaves the UA a little vulnerable.

If you take out the UA, they're as prone to Bombers as any other unit of their style. I've also had some luck with Scattergunners... Combination of Feat + Marked for Death (if necessary) can open holes in a lot of Cryxian lineups.

They still suck to see on the board, just my favorite way of dealing with them, when I can manage it Sounds like you're seeing some brutal lineups, regardless.

Grim is highly effective versus Cryx. He denies their defense and his feat can stop them in their tracks. Most of Cryx is melee. When they can't charge or even move very far, you can hurt them bad.

Cryx suffer against denial pretty good, especially certain casters. It does really depend on the matchup though.

If you're going up against Cryx bring Grim, unless it's going to be Terminus because Grim has a hard time shattering armour bajillion, in those situations I like to bring out eDoomie, Kriel stone and beast brick featuring axer, bomber mulg and mauler. It gives you a rock hard force that can machete its way through Bane and mechi-spam but doesn't give up enough souls to make Terminus' armour high enough that he doesn't have to fear a rage'd Mulg.

p doomy's not too bad too, if you play cautiously.

purification and banishing ward alone can drive some people nuts

In my local gaming club there are currently 4 cryx players, from which one is a long service veteran, and one is just a really good player. They use to score really well against others, but they ALWAYS break on my trolls. (me being the only troll around) I admit they are fast, and tend to hit hard, but winning attrition against them is imo horribly easy.
Incorporeal? Bomber + explosivo against units, Grim Angus against solos, Mulg against heavy jacks. They simply stopped taking any incorporeal stuff against me, because i always find a way around it.

So, long story short, i completely don't understand how everybody is speaking of Cryx with such fearful respect...

Because to pull off everything you listed requires me to bring Mulg, Grim Angus and Gunnbjornn to the table. People respect Cryx because privateer doesn't know how to stop giving them under costed special rules, they can turn off tough, we don't get snacking against them and they bring their own tough weaponmasters with built in fellcaller and they throw debuffs like nobodies business, if you don't understand why people speak of Cryx with respect then i'm sorry but you're playing against bad Cryx players.

Incorporeal is only part of the equation. The biggest problem we have as trolls is Cryxian debuff and denial. Things like Pdenny, Edenny's feats, the powerhouse hitting of PSkarre, and some of the other shenigans of EGaspy and Scaverous put us at a severe dissadvantage. Not being able to move in a primarily melee army hurts. Badly.

Cryx can play attrition pretty well too, and matchup depedent, will beat out trolls. 30 mechanicathralls among other things with Terminus can easily beat us out, especially if that stupid witch (Grumble...) is in the list.

This is why Grim is such a better choice against Cryx. He plays denial and control, which is something Cryx is weak to since they actually have a very similar weakness: Largely melee army. Plus -DEF on Cryx mitigates their defense mechanism, just as their weapon masters and the debuffs destroy our armor.

A lot of Cygnar is a hard counter to Cryx because of this. Denial/control Casters like P/Haley love some Cryx to chew on. PCaine likes all their infantry. Seige likes one-two hitting their jacks. Plus gun mages.

Cryx just has a lot of great choices for solos, infantry, jacks, and worst of all, warlocks

I am excited about bringing Jarl to go against Cryx. You can pick out key models and take them out via magic bullet and you can reach out and bash face in no time flat. I've played one game against Cryx and with in two round owned much of the board. Looking forward to other fights.
