A Tale of Warmahordes 2012: June WIP Thread

Morning all,

Apologies for the delay - I failed to notice we'd landed in June already...

We're now heading into June, so it is time for our next WIP thread for this event.

This will be the discussion/update thread to keep track of peoples progress on their WIP projects during June. As with previous threads, there are a few ground rules I need to make clear:

• The completed models thread will go live on the Monday 25th June, between 6am and 8am GMT, and will be open for submissions for two weeks. If you will not be able to post during that period, send me a PM with links to pictures of your finished models, and I'll post them for you.
• Please do not post pictures of your finished models within this thread, to save confusion.
• The July WIP thread will be posted on Sunday July 1st
• Remember, the aim is to complete 5 points this month
• If you are certain you wish to use a "Get Out of Painting Free" card for June, please either make a quick post in here, or drop me a PM.

I decided that I wanted to take fully painted armies with me to GenCon, so this month, it's nothing but minions.

My total minion model count (MMC) is as follows (I think):

1 Road hog (on order - won't be here until late in the month)

Right now, I have 1 unit of the gators painted. Almost everything else is WIP, and I want to have a good chunk of that done before the end of the month. GenCon is in 70 days or so, and I have about 75 models to paint. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can. . . .

What may derail me is my plan to add a few models to that list - Rorsh & Brine, Wrongeye & Snapjaw, another War hog, a swamp horror, another bull snapper or two. . .

Well, I can get the gators done, easily enough. I'm doing some experimenting with a color scheme for the bog trogs, and I think I know how I want to paint the spitter. Unfortunately, I forgot to write down the base flesh tone for my brigands, so I have a couple that I am testing right now. I may not be exact, but I will settle for "close enough".

Got started on my Idrian UA.... Would like to know what people think about the color scheme on this guy for the rest of my idrian unit...?

Going to try to get at least a min unit of Idrians and the UA done this month i think i need to push myself to do units more and i use these guys enough so having them painted would be nice.





Some C&C on this guy would be nice...

@Darisus:
He looks sharp, nice contrasts and the leather cloak looks really good.
However, I'm not a huge fan of red and green together, it makes the model look "christmas-y".
Again, just my opinion, otherwise you've done a great job on the model, the face and eyes are excellent!

So far so good. Able to knock out ATGMs + Officer, Rutger, and Vanguard pretty fast. Woohoo!

I have been failing the past months with painting, mostly because of school. But hopefully I can make it up with my pledge for this month.
This month I will be painting:

My contribution for this month is going to be finishing a full unit of Choir and a Vassal of Menoth to be able to participate in my first ever game! (I didn't want to proxy. I wanted to have my own fully painted army.)

Hmm... assuming my stuff comes in time (had to order a whole new pallette+supplies) I'll be painting for the first time in a year now. My itinerary:

Either I got the correct flesh tone for the brigands, or is is close enough, so they are proceeding as well. The base colors are almost done on the spitter, though the bog trog color trials have not panned out. The bull snapper is almost done, and four of the five members of the second gatorman posse are ready for sealing and basing - in fact, I am going to head down to the basement now to take care of sealing them.

I've also been working on the war hogs, and stuff is getting worked on. As I said, I am hoping to be done with all the amphibious stuff by the end of this month, and well into the pigs. It may not happen that way, just because of the way I paint. I'll go through periods where lots of stuff gets worked on, but nothing finished - and then, in the course of a few days, a dozen models (or more) are suddenly done.

Text only update from me, yesterday I started painting a Shadowhorn that'll be in the army I'm taking to the ETC in July. As of about 30 minutes ago, he's done, bar basing. Should be able to finish his base bar static grassing tomorrow. Quite happy with how he came out

Assuming my list doesn't change again, I still need to paint up a Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew (1pt), and my 2nd Blackclad Wayfarer (2pts), so that'll net me 10pts to get back one of my freebie cards (think I'm down to 1).

Also need to paint passive-Kromac and Rawr-Kromac too, but I really have no idea where I'm going to start painting those two. May cop out and apply the same speed paint technique I used for my 'Trackers and 'Weavers, but spend a little time doing some highlights at the end... maybe!

Also need to paint 5 Wolf Riders (or decide on alternative (already painted) reinforcements).

Well, due to several weekends of (very) early starts due to various family members struggling with colds, I have been busy on the painting front, and managed to get my Desecrator painted way ahead of schedule!

I still need to finish the water effects on the base, which may take a few days, so it isnt 100% finished. Tried a few new techniques on this one, including weathering powders, the moss effect on the hull to really make it look like some machine from the depths, glossy oil on the joints (which you cannot really notice due to the scale of the miniature), and some slate rocks on the basing. Its quite a busy miniature, but I don't mind that at all.

For june I will continue my Cryx jacks progress with a Stalker and a Harrower. 14 points total. The Stalker is done, now it's time to start on the other.

Got both versions of Kromac started and finished last weekend, one bit at a time on both models and I slowly made it through both Now working on Baldur2.

Should probably crack on and paint something actually worth points, but since I've got my pts in the bag already with a painted Shadowhorn, may as well catch up with my 'locks

I've gotten most of the Shifting Stones done, but I cannae seem to find my camera to post WIP shots. Work has started on Murdoch, and continued on pNemo. I'm also going to switch that Centurion I mentioned for an additional Mule, which I intend to assemble tonight. If I can find my camera, I'll try to get some WIP shots up here this evening.

Shifting Stones

Question for the audience regarding the Shifting Stones - should I do more glow work around the top of the stones, like I did on my Woldwatcher or Woldwyrd, or should I leave them as they are, with the slightly glowy runes? I haven't been able to make my mind up on this, despite debating with myself about it all weekend.

Given Murdoch, at the time of writing, just has blue on his shoulderpads, I haven't bothered taking pics. The Slaughterhousers need an additional undercoat from the underside before work can really start on them, which has just been applied.
