Thread: So, Imperatus?

  1. #1

    Default So, Imperatus?

Anyone else find it odd that all the other rumors were correct?

Do you think Imperatus was made up? A late cut from the book, maybe due to appear in the next one? Or possibly just a name PP put in certain playtest lists to catch leaks?

Personally, I think it was a late cut and I'm hoping see it's name pop up again in the near future. It doesn't make sense to me that someone would accurately spoil the rest of his tier, but then make up a random character jack. So, I think there is some truth to Imperatus.

IMO we may see "Imperatus" it may not be called that but it will be Vyros 'jack.

I think eVyros is going to have a character jack, I don't know if I think that will be the name or not though.

It could have been in some documents sent out as a means of narrowing down sources of leaks. It's plausible even if not likely. PP certainly wouldn't be the first to incode documents in such a manner.

They could dump a Jack out to us via NoQuarter and put it out in a Blister as a variant on the Vyre model.

That would take little effort really. Might help us with the whole feeling under appreciated bit.

Where was Imperatus seen? eVyros' theme list?

Yeah, initial spoilers of his theme force (before people had the book from L&L) had Imperatus as an allowed jack, and required it for T4 instead of just any heavy.

I think Imperatus is a made up hypothetical name. It doesn't fit with the mythology theme of the rest of the myrmidons.

Doesn't really mean anything - after all "Ol'Rowdy" really has nothing to do with Cygnar's naming convention of either Defensive things or Storm related things... I could see Vyros calling his jack that...

I wouldn't be surprised to see a character Phoenix come out for Vyros in the next book - we may even see an upgrade kit in the near future...

Vyros with a Vyre-chassis character jack? DId they really buddy up in the fluff that quickly?

I want to point out that aside from league models all our characters jacks are unique (not based on any other jack).

Although a character Phoenix would be awesome just because that jack already looks awesome.

Seems incredibly unlikely to me at this point - Vyros has 2 out of 3 theme lists that restrict him to Shyeel jacks... Although Special issue could fix this it might seem a bit weird... Unless he'd kept hold of a Vyre jack he took from Goreshade when he defeated him, in which case - that would be seriously cool!

And it would kind of make sense to have a character Phoenix as it was designed to be the jack of the Dawnguard... I'm still holding out for a jack that flies though... A few weeks ago, I had a vivid day dream about a new Vyros character Phoenix with some kind of flying ability...

    Uffff. That's nice.

While talking to a friend I came with the idea of a jack that takes the concept used by the chimera a step further and teleport by traveling through the lay lines. Ruleswise it can be represented by having sprint while g was active or an ability that using one foc it could be placed anywhere on the caster control area.

Imperatus is Latin for commanded right?

I'd also quite like a jack who could activate either Ghostly or incorporeal with its field...

This is true, and I've agreed with you on this before.

However, thinking about it a bit more, it occurs to me that both of our character jacks so far belong to casters that are prominent members of the myrmidon-producing houses who are both involved with the design and production of myrmidons. That makes it considerably easier for them to tinker around and create their own unique jacks.

I'm not sure that the other casters will have that free range, so maybe there is a possibility of Vyros getting a character Phoenix.

    ... I'd really like a character Phoenix.

For my tacos, yes there will be a character jack who is special issue for Vyros. It could be a No Quarter update, but I'm pretty sure it'll end up like the extra stuff that was supposedly originally in Wrath. In other words we will see it some day.
Also, as far as I know, Discordia also had a made up name.

Discordia is the Roman name for the Greek goddess Eris. She's the goddess of strife and (surprise surprise) discord.

Probably more likely to be a character Hydra then phoenix (despite my preferences) given the interaction both Vyros seem to have with the Hydra. Maybe one that's armed with a sword and shield over the Popeye forearms. Big focus camping gun is still a must though

Actually I'd be putting money on a character Griffon for him. Both versions seem to work pretty well with Griffons, plus Vyros is described in the fluff as often utilizing griffons AND they are the Dawnguard jack of choice to train with. Not to mention we don't have a character light.

Seems pretty clear to me. I wouldn't mind a character Griffon though. I really enjoy using Griffons and have never regretted taking one (or five...).

If the character is Imperatus, then it's almost certainly a heavy as when then replaced it in the theme requirements they replaced it with a generic heavy. That being said a character Griffon would be cool.

I though that at first but if Imperatus has Special Issue (that's the rule, right?) it can still be added to any Vyros tier regardless of "non-character" warjacks restrictions.

I'm not saying that would't have special issue, just that if you're PP and have too to revise a tier list because a unit isn't coming out I'd assume you'd replace it with something similar. If Imperatus had been a character griffon why wouldn't they have replaced that requirement with a normal Griffon?

I also doubt the name will be Imperatus. Thus far our generic jacks have been named after mythical greek creatures, and the character jacks have been named after lesser Greek gods, with the exception of Hyperion who is named after a Greek Titan. Imperatus, as AJ mentioned earlier, is the Latin word for "commanded" which doesn't fit the theme even remotely.

I bet Imperatus was either a ruse to figure out where leaks were coming from, or simply a code name developed for an upcoming unfinished model they were play testing.

The Colossus book mentions Imperatus as a requirement for eVyros' tier list. I'm holding it in my hand looking at it.

Aspis is greek for shield IIRC. So it keep the Greek theme...sort of

The Banshee is Irish 'though. Not sure if the Greeks had something equivalent to it.

I'm hoping that if Imperatus turns up in a later book then it will be an Apotheosis style unique heavy. That what I originally thought it would be based on spoilers seeing as if it had special issue it wouldn't need to be called out in the tier.

As mentioned before though - Ol'Rowdy doesn't fit any kind of previous Cygnar naming convention and there are many examples of this across character jacks and the only thing you really need to ask yourself is "Would that warcaster call there jack that?"

Would Vyros call his personal jack a Latin word associated with Command? I think it would...
