Well it looks like I am alone in my opinion so perhaps I should just keep my mouth shut in the future .

@PPS_Meg - I have no doubt that the Privateer Press team chose the appropriate model as the winning entry out of what was submitted. I am not questioning why it was the winner over other entries (having not seen any of the other entries that would be silly of me). More just pointing out that I feel like this is not the best that Ghool is capable of and when I see a model that wins best overall at such a prestigious event I expect it to be the best that the painter is capable of.

The second set of photos do make it look better and congrats on the win Ghool, you are certainly deserving of such an award.

I disagree with this. Ghool didn't do a great job.....A great job would have been a sweep all the painting competitions.......

Next year i vote we break a finger or 2 before he attempts to paint his models, so all the rest of us have a chance.......



Oh and he cheated with his pigs......he didn't paint them......he just grew genetically altered pigs that fit the scale of the models, and glued them to bases........i guess the impressive thing with them is the fact he trained them to stay perfectly still for as long as they did.

Ghool plays with all his models........these are painted to "Tabletop quality" in his mind........it's why i hate him so much.......

Yes to both questions.

Models that are painted for a game, are meant to be played with, regardless of what standard they are painted to.
It might frighten some me saying that all of my models hit the table.....and they aren't even sealed.

I feel like the pics must be a huge let down. It's a fantastic paint job, no doubt, but the blending doesn't look nearly as good as some of the other stuff you have done. If you say it's your best, I believe you I just don't see it compared to what you brought last year in pictures

Cmon man. This is an amazing peice. looking at how close the pics are zoomed in and how clean and crisp the details are, its no surprise it won. You're making a judgement from a pic on the internet, not while the model is in your hand.

So does pretty much everybody else in this thread...

I find the gargoyle and brick wall very well done. The rest of the base is a bit too busy for me. Nicely painted, but the abundance and messiness of the ivy doesn't do it for me.

Interesting to to look at. We all can be critics but all in all. Painted models look good and i think it brings the game and the gamer to life. Enjoying your work and having people look on and seeing you play with painted models. Elevates the gaming experience. Congrats on the win.

Yep Busch is the brand. They also make mushrooms, pumpkins and other types of foliage. IIRC, I think I'm the one that found those originally and gave Brant and Uncle Mike a sprue each a few years back. Sadly, my painting skills aren't near the same level. Great job as always and Conarats!

So my sarcasm alert widget is clearly indicating that both Plarzoid and Faultie are taking the piss as they compliment Ghool on his awesome work.

The use of your mod voices in doing so does raise the humor factor, but does also bring out that nervous laugh that says "Are they serious? They have their mod voices on.."

We take mods seriously around here... With a little bit of power comes a little bit of responsibility and all that. A "pfffffff....amazing work can't wait to see the next" at the end would go a long way to show you can't keep a straight face while trying to bluff this one out.

Also... Ghool, if you stop posting your stuff, blur or discolour your pictures or anything of that type, I will have someone at Sentry box take crap photos and post them here until your are forced to take decent ones. Inspiring work is just that - inspiring. Never stop.

beautiful beautiful work ghool. Congratulations on... I think more or less sweeping L&L. If I ever head over to the US I will have to pick your brain (and meg's and matt's). I really like the use of green. I seldom see good minis with green on them. Also like the shading on the cape and the colours of the face. eEiryss is a hard model to paint well, and you did a wonderful job.

I saw this model at L&L and talked with Ghool about it - I can say that the pics of his Eyriss model do NOT do the model justice.

There were a lot of good entries but this particular model was in competition with a couple of others for 1st place. I'm not surprised that this model ended up winning though.

I did have the good fortune of being able to talk to Ghool while we were looking over all of the model entries. Hopefully, i'll be able to attend L&L next year!

Gotta be honest... I'm not impressed. Don't get me wrong, it's a great paint job. But the thought that this model won best overall at lock & load is a bit disheartening.

I do agree about the base however. Phenomenal work all around on the base. Just not diggin the model itself. I think some of your Cygnar work is better than this one.

No. What you just said is. You don't have to show a picture of anything to critique and when a person posts their work on the Internet they have to be ready for it. Notice where he said it's a great paintjob? Where he called the base phenomenal? Where he compliments past work and indeed the work in question? Honest criticism is not worthless. Honest criticism is not pointless. Honest criticism is not arrogant.

I myself have seen paint jobs by EtherealPaints, and they're quite nice.

Let's keep the thread civil. It's just another painted miniature that happened to win an award. I took the critique as just that, and which is why I posted some more pictures. What I think I needed to do was zoom out a bit, and maybe not make them so huge; any slight flaws will show extremely well at the size I posted them at.

Everyone's opinion is valid, so let's just all give each other a group hug...okay?

Though these ideas are good, I would also accept replacing all of your paintbrushes with shards of broken glass.

Indeed. I think anyone who has criticised has done so fairly and all given credit to the wonderful miniatures you produce. I consider your work to be benchmark stuff as far as PP stuff goes. I say as far as PP because I've never seen your work applied to non PP miniatures.
