Default Did I miss a War Room announcement?

Did I miss some announcement or a press release? I haven't seen any mention of War Room for the last couple of weeks, whereas in late April/early May it seemed like a "WHERES MY WAR ROOM!?" thread was popping up every couple of days. I feel like I must have missed something...

    Delayed to the End Times.

Or sometime in July. I forget if I am talking about Valve or Tinkerhouse sometimes.

Anytime the developer of the app in question posts an exquisitely painted 35 point army that he "built during compilation" of an application as simple as War Room you should expect long long delays. Most compilation of simple Phone Apps should be a few minutes at most, not the hours he obviously spent painting.

    It's delayed until July 9th.

I daresay this is a bit of an overreaction, but you are certainly entitled to your opinion.

meh...the delay doesn't bother me at all. Then again I'm a computer science major and I can relate to realizing that things should have been done differently after getting feedback...or just having trouble estimating how much time things will take. Especially when you aren't just building an app...but you are trying to sum up every aspect of something as complex as warmachine inside it in a accessable/readable manner.

I've lost interest in the whole War Room thing....it will remain this way until I see it out and ready for download.

I highly doubt it will fail to be at all usable. I also think that a DNF refrence should only be made after at least one year of delays. Warroom has only had a couple months total in delays, and assuming it releases on July 9, will only be just over three months late. It is also if I recall correctly the second delay, not the fourth. March-> April -> July.

There was a scope change of it's features.

This means further development and testing.

Unfortunately I cannot see too much extra money being flung at it, so it will now take more time for delivery.

Maybe it has something to do with digital distribution of rules. I know that if I was making it, from a software perspective, I would do the following:

    Free App includes:
Database of models with ability overviews (no stats yet), pictures, list building and damage tracking. Game setups and real time updates of army lists on both sides. Useful as a free app, benefits the game, and gives you a taste of what you are missing out of on the full app (hence a reason to buy it) but at its core is a solid list building and damage tracking app. Have an out of game and in game mode. In game mode has a short list of your minis, the ones with boxes at the top with easy access buttons. Since its the free app, there's no stats, so its just a damage grid.

    Paid app includes:
Full stats of cards you've bought, new releases from those decks, "preview" releases of your bought factions, list building, model collection counts, painted/unpainted percentages, tier lists listed by caster and by models (this model is used in these tier lists), local player matching service, faction demographics and casters used (by you and opponents), Local and Global metagame (who's winning with what armies), Check in service (JB is at the game store, looking for game, up to 50 points Cygnar/ 15 pts Circle), Streamroller clock for Tournament Organizers, League tracking and maps, in-app model ordering, Buff tracking and real time stat changes (buffed stats appear in green).

How I see this working efficiently is by using a few different modes:
    1. Browsing mode: Full card images with stats and pictures, gallery of art containing that character. List building, game browsing, data feed, etc, etc.
    2. Game Shop mode: in app purchases of models, cards, previews of new releases, newsfeed, check in, looking for game, see who's checked in and who's playing what.
    3. War mode: split into two sections, offense and defense:
    a. Offense mode: Interface is a bunch of buttons with [Name: M:6(Pow12) | Rat:6(Pow10) RoF: 2 Range: 12]. This is so you can fit it all at a glance on a smartphone. Drop down on top so you can organize by unit type, Alphabetical by name, Mat, Rat, RoF, and Range. Long press the name to pop it down to the bottom in the "Already activated" section as an option. Critical effects on weapons have the pow colored red, special effects on hit/damage have orange, magical weapons are blue, and buffed stats are green. You can look down at the app and just start quick rolling dice after moving.
    b. Defense mode: Interface as a bunch of buttons with [Name: Def:12 Arm:12 HP:8]. Click the button to pull up a damage grid. Can have icons for immunities and green color for buffs. Blue for buffs that let you ignore effects like knockdown, etc.

The game mode is the most important. It has to be fast, efficient, and easy to organize at a glance. I don't care about flashy, I want functional. On any small device like a phone, the quickest and most efficient way to do that is with text.

Hopefully all the buildup will lead to a worthy app, if it ever gets released...
Playing: Khador, Legion, Cryx, Trollbloods, Menoth
