A friend of mine went to Lock and Load and brought back some toys so I used her Kraken tonight in a 50 point game with the Coven vs Nemo3 and it did not disappoint! I ran Kraken, full Bloodwitches + Hag, 2 Necrotechs, 2 Nightwretches, 2 WWS, WSC, and Gorman. I apologize for not being really familiar with the Cygnar that I fought against but my opponent used a Stormclad, 2 lights, Black 13th, Stormstrider, the field artillary (storm spire?), a few solos (no idea), and the Stormblades I believe.
I cast and upkept Infernal Machine on the Kraken all game and he was able to put 10 points on Nemo3 at the top of turn 2 without any corpses. The Bloodwitches and Hag obliterated the Stormblades the same turn and I popped my feat, basically stopping my opponent from being able to touch me even though he feated in response. The top of 3 is where it ended with a Stygian Abyss arcnode assassination but the Kraken, even for 19 points, was a large part of the victory.
The threat that is brings with the 4" melee and Sweep power attack is a massive deterrent to any enemy engaging it. With Inf Mach it has an 11" melee threat range at Deathjack MAT which is just absurd when you consider that it gets a free shot if it kills a living model, giving it an effective 27" ranged threat at a min of pow 17 on the gun!!
I wasn't sold on the looks when they released the sculpt on the interwebz but when I saw it IRL it was just love at first sight. I was honestly worried that the unicorn horn was silly and the front of the model was boring and under-detailed but I played an unpainted model tonight and it was still pretty awesome to see on the board. The Kraken demands a response from the opponent and with a main gun that can threaten a massive area there just isn't a good way to stop it from delivering a few brutal shells to some key pieces, I absolutely love it and I plan on buying my own as soon as they're available!
