---------the list-----------
This is a very large game and uses most of my collection, so much choices are more about what to leave out than what to put in.
I've done large games before, so I know that these things boil down to attrition. With that said, I wanted a good mix of infatry casters and beast casters. Morvahna's Regrowth spell is gold in large games, so she's in. eKaya is great with beasts, so I took her as well. I took Krueger for the anti-infantry aspect with his feat. I took Grayle as something of a balancing factor. I could use Grayle's feat to give Stealth or get extra movement out of my army, and StormRager is great to bounce around on solos. Baldur is my achor as he will hold my center.
I expecting to fight a WarMachine army (Protectorate, in specific), so I left out any Hordes specific models (Alten Ashley, Lanyssa Ryssal).
I used every warbeast I had in this army, and divying them out was tricky. I wanted Baldur to get most of the constructs, but he could only use so much and other casters needed Fury as well. Krueger got a Warden to spam Forked Bolt, and Morvahna got the Watcher to use ShieldGuard.
Ravagers were the last thing I added to this list. They just don't do much. I left out the Shaman because it doesn't add much to the unit
--------opponent's list----------
To my surprise, my opponent brought Cygnar (I didn't think he had enough points).
My opponent said he didn't have enough 'jacks to really make the list he wanted but had a lot of choices when it came to infantry. I found it stranger that he gave Triumph to Haley even though Seige was in his list, but he said he wanted Triumph to use Haley's feat.
My opponent also brought a 'anchor' caster: Darius.
-------flow of game play---------
I pre-deployed my Fulcrum at the center of my deployment and my opponent did like wise.
I put Baldur and his beasts at center, Kaya and beasts wide to my left, and Grayle to the far right. I put Krueger between Baldur and Kaya, and Morvahna between Baldur and Grayle (I wanted these 2 casters to support my with spells as much as possible). My opponents deployment favored the left side of the board; putting Seige, Haley and Nemo to the left of Darius and leaving just Sloan to the right. My army had a lot of AD and I fielded them evenly across the board.
I had 1st turn and ran my 1st group of models up the board, my opponent counted with gun fire and I took heavy losses early (the Ravagers died before entering melee).
Kaya popped her feat on turn 2, esentially wasting Haley's battlegroup. Haley popped her feat in response and I took more infantry losses. I popped Krueger's feat next. My opponent stragegically placed a lot of lightning-proof infantry in his way, but Krueger had control range to a unit of Trenchers and wiped out the unit. Grayle was up against Sloan and a lot of shooting, so he popped his feat early to give his army Stealth
Baldur's feat would change the course of the game. Since my opponent couldn't effectively get to my center, he moved his army around to either side of his feat range. This caused to large clumps of melee combat to form up at either side of Baldur. Seige popped his feat and nearly wiped out Krueger's beasts. Sloan poped her feat, but her army had issues hitting my stuff at range. Baldur's group took a beating, but held the line.
The Bloodtrackers killed a lot of solos on turn 3. They killed 4 solos by killing their prey, declaring a new prey and killing them as well.
The Shadowhorn and Reeves worked well together. The Reeves shot up some Trencher Commandos. When the Commandos moved up into melee, the Shadowhorn leaped into place and killed the Commandos in order to free up the Reeves again.
The first caster death was Haley. She only had Thorn left in her battlegroup and it was in bad shape. I moved up the Pureblood and targeted Thorn and Haley with a spray. Thorn took no damage, but Haley took 10 health boxes. Feeling close to a caster kill, I moved Laris up and had Kaya arc Muzzle on Harley for the kill.
Krueger went down next. With only a Fury filled Argus left, Siege moves up and drops a Groundpounder on Krueger. Despite SkyBorne, Siege hits and boosts damage.
------- all-in-all ---------------
game length: 8 hrs 15 mins
We pre-made lists and still couldn't finish. Next time well try something more managable, like 150 pts.
I really wasn't expecting Cygnar, not that it would have changed my list had I known, but I was expecting more out of Krueger's feat.
Worst performers: Ravagers and Bloodweavers. Both died before getting to melee
Best Performers: Shadowhorn, Bloodtrackers, Totem Hunter. These models laid waste to lots of enemy solos and infantry.
This game could have gone either way. While cleaning up, we discussed our next moves, and we would have lost another caster each if we played another turn
result: draw. Due to no result, I won't alter my duel stats below
