Default Tactics: The Anti Assassination Pocket- Anti-Thyra

So this is a really simply formation that I've developed for those of you having problems with assassin casters/models. Mine was Thyra who despite all my best efforts, would kill my caster every time if she got to close. Problem is with acrobatics and a feat with placements its pretty hard to keep her away. So I made what I call "the pocket" much like from football. you will need 4 models for this, Megalithe and 3 druids (1 druid is optional). So megalithe is in the front of this formation with his animus being up every turn. Your caster will be directly behind megalithe, and two druids on his flanks. These two druids will have vortexs up with your caster sitting directly in between both of them, but not in either, with both of them connecting in front of him. So lets see what you have here. You now have about 6-7 inches of rough terrain in front of your caster, clouds blocking LOS to your casters, if something does somehow get to your caster is will have to be in a vortex for -2 mat. The 4th druid is sitting behind your caster to hugging him with countermagic, so your counter bubble is around the whole pocket keeping things untouchable. For me as long as Saxon Orrik dies thyra has never been able to get through, and well Saxon is the first on my list to go. Now there are ways to get around this dont get me wrong but I've found it really really cuts down on assassination runs since they cant even charge your caster let alone want to with -2 mat. This does however take lots of points, but megalithe can still be channeling spells, and if you keep it in the center your countermagic bubble is about in the right place. Hope this helps!

Gratz! Good read, I'll add it to the Wilding Way later.

I will add, this works equally well against Kayazy Eliminators and Kill Stroke'ed Kayazy Assassins too

Granted, if they're being played with Irusk1 or Vlad2 then even with the -2 they'll likely still land a hit, but the -2 makes it a little less likely if nothing else.

I have a hard time wanting to park my caster behind a heavy. one slam... hard to pull off with megalith's animus up but still, with the feat it's possible.

Does Countermagic protect against Magic Bullet?

Nope, except that the model targetted is likely in the bubble too, if its close enough to Magic Bullet to your caster. Not necessarily, but likely.

This is a good option against assassination but it seems like a lot of model's/points to be used almost entirely on Defense.

And thats what I thought at first. But against lists designed for killing your caster and thats all lets see what you really lose. My megalithe just generally shoots my spells (I'm a pKrug player to the core) and provides rough terrain. you lose two druids sure but the third should already be providing counter magic. And against said list where assassination is the key to winning if you cant be to careful plus after that your army should dominate. This tactic is to ONLY be used against pathfinderless assassins. And against slams you'd have to go and effective 10' of slams if your starting directly outside the rough terrain circle, however its possible and something you have to protect against, even if it is hard. Not saying its perfect but against some lists I find it absolutely necessary, since against some lists where the caster doesnt support just kills your supported army wins if your caster can survive.
