WARMACHINE/Hordes no more.
Interesting speculation - I'm more inclined to think that it will preview the new Monsternomicon for the IK RPG rather than being a new article type.
This speculation is based on the fact that honestly an article on new monsters for the IK every issue is going to amount to extensive previews for a monster book (or monsters from the core books) anyway - and it makes no real sense to make that into a new regular feature instead of just having previews for it.
Personally I hope they adopt a monstonomicon type release schedule for giving us monster information instead of sticking some in the back of every book. I hope for region based releases so for instance the Scarsfell + Thornwood (full of monsters from those areas) Monstonmicon and then the Island of Cryx monstionomicon. Although it really depends - a book on The Island of Cryx could include character options as well as monsters and still be very thematic.
The other thing I want to know is if we're going to be getting a lot of monsters being released that are pointless - like Here's the stats for a Dire Troll (They mirror the Hordes Stats + the new ones that exist for the RPG but which a Dire troll having isn't that relevant). I can see the value of that, but I'd prefer a "here's how to take the stats from Warmachine and Hordes and get the IK stats you need" - which would work out to making all the forces of X books into themed splat books for the RPG.
Of course for that to work the range of stats has to be similar such that Mat 4 and Mat 5 not only roughly equate to the same thing in the RPG and the wargame, but that the RPG and Wargame have the same degree of difference between 4 and 5 - and that could easily not be the case if the RPG is more detailed.
I collect NQ anyway but I don't want to have to dig out an issue to get the stats for a monster that aren't featured anywhere else so I hope it isn't a non-preview regular monster feature.

What's Pendrake doing right now, after his stint in the Skorne empire?
Looking at the NQ42 article, it looks like the RPG still has MAT and RAT, but as "derived stats" they look to be more granular than in the wargames. Conversion back and forth between the two systems appears to be possible with some judgment calls, but it won't be susceptible to a simple formula, and you definitely won't be able to just plop a Warmachine stat card on the table and use it in your IKRPG. I see this as a very good thing.
Man, the more I read about the new IKRPG, the more excited I get. Is it GenCon yet?
"Shhh. Before you talk with the Chief, you must party with the Chief."
They've said that the wargame stats are intentionally made "larger than life." So by that I'm guessing, increased. That said, I'm pretty sure that you don't need the background stats in order to make use of MAT and RAT as printed on a warmachine card. I think that a little creative GMing will go a long ways towards making the bulk of the wargame stats serviceable for the RPG, at least as far as fodder for combat goes. No there won't be a great way of determining the various personality type skills/stats for the wargame models, but if they're only there to fight and die as the adventurers roll on towards the real bad guy (who was made and fleshed out fully), who cares? How many times do RPG players actually interact socially with their combat encounters?
To be clear - I don't mind them reprinting every monster and jack and unit from Warmachine and Hordes if those reprints are meaningful - so if they reprint Trencher's because they depart more from the Warmachine statline that's okay, or because they want to flesh them out a lot (detail all the trencher weapons and jacks in one trencher section of a monster book say) that's fine.
It would be nicer to see how the units differ in a more detailed system actually - the elite units and the rank and file units in Warmachine are fairly similar in stat line, but according to the D&D Rpg a a trencher is a level 4 fighter and a stormblade is level 6 or 7 (I forget exactly) - that makes the stormblade a lot better in D&D terms than the trencher unit compared to the difference in the Wargame. (Where the trencher unit cost more!)
I wish they'd preview more information.

there was an interview with Doug Seacat on Lost Hemisphere, where he mentioned the Barrow-Mawg appearing in NQ

Enough waiting. We want WarmarmotsMercs & Minions sheet
IK Alphabets Guide
Battle College
Savage Iron Kingdoms
We might want to check the dates, as around the time of Legends, which is when the RPG is supposed to be based, I think Pendrake may still be chillin' with the beasts in the East. he left after the renewed Skorne invasion of 606 A.R., though I'm not sure how long he was gone.
I think the new RPG is going to be post-Legends, so 607 AR. Pendrake should be back by now.

This is the way the world ends.
They'll probably have both a Monsternomicon Book, as well as No Quarter previews and exclusives. It makes the best business sense to do both, as it'll lure more people into buying subscriptions, and PP is a business that needs to make a profit.
I'm all for seeing RPG content in the No Quarter magz again, and you can get a subscription for $20/year delivered to your door.
Thanks for the info. Doing the appropriate research.
WARMACHINE/Hordes no more.
Hopefully that's what they do. Some people have no interest in WarmaHordes or their other games, and having to get a subscription just to get stats on the creatures of the world would be off-putting.
That aspect won't affect me (as I subscribe), but only getting a few beasties every couple months would suck, as encounters would have to be based on what's been released, on not on a plethora of creatures you'd get from a book.
