Default My Gold Coin Entry for Large Model at LNL

    Hello All,

I dont post very often, but this was my entry into LnL's painting competition. I was pleasantly suprised to find out I had one of two models to receive a gold coin in the large model category. I lost to a very deserving Arlaharen and his amazing entry. Please forgive the pic. Im not very camera savy, and this was my best shot so far. The event was alot of fun, and I look forward to attending next year as well.

Thank you Anthonicus. Wish I could take better pics. My pics always make my models look so washed out.

Hmmm the best solution I've found so far for me is to use natural sunlight (late afternoon indirect lighting) as fill lighting and I have 1 lamp as an overhead light source. Two would be better but eh...I dont feel like buying another lamp :P

Very nice piece. Any chance of larger pics? I'd like to be able to see the skin texture a bit better.

Ill do my best. Terrible with pics, but ill try using Anthonicus's lighting method. The skin texture were created using my base color and adding a small amount of dark green paint. I then watered this way down and blended one side of each spot to the base skin color. To finish I glazed the whole area with the base skin tone, so the spots would remain subtle.

Just fantastic! I love the bone armor look. The base is great too.

Dude, your painting kicks ***. You should definitely post more pictures

The Raek is really nice, I would not have been surprised if it had gone the other way.

Beautiful work. I love how the skin dot pattern is so subtle, like a slightly different shade of the same colour. And the blue/bone/caramel scheme is just excellent. Thanks for sharing this!

Wow, I really dig it as well. I'm pretty envious of the mottled skin. Is there some sort of orange mixed into his jaws/snout?

I slowly mixed in purples and pinks into the gum and jaw area around the teeth. I think the slight orange your seeing on the head plate is a little Bloodtracker Brown I mixed into the blend. I'll try to get some more pics of the mottled skin up. Ive taken about 50 pics, and hate them all. Should have some close ups up soon i hope.... =P

This was one of the large models that caught my eye right away in the case.
The gold is well-deserved. It was also a pleasure talking shop with you, and I hope to see more pics from you in the near future.

Just pick up that second brush, and give the blending a better chance; it's much faster than glazing, and you'll be able to crank out a lot more models to this standard in a lot less time.

In the future, please think about the consequences of posting your work, so this doesn't happen again. Perhaps use less of whatever it is that you use to get your results?
    Thanks.
