    Default GNG: Colossal Reviews

    Dear all,

This thread will look at the Colossal models and much more. First up: kraken. Model. Pictures and battle reports will be posted and linked here.

Andres and I have met today at the GNG gaming room bunker, yes we do actually have one took us a few years to put to together . Whilst Andres was drooling over the new colossal book. I managed to put together the Kraken.

To be frank, it was one of the easiest and smoothest models I have put together to date. Real joy to do. Once finally put together and done I must say it is one beautiful sculpt. pictures will be up on this thread on the Kraken and maybe a short video on it to. Watch this space.

We are now going to play 75pt game. Cryx vs Skorne. The audio battle report will be on our colossal show which should be up today.

More stuff to come soon! Very excited in using it. Looking forward to accumulating allot of corpse tokens for it. Our lists will be up shortly.

    Regards,
    Sam

Would be awesome to see if the Skorne player spams titans and if so how the colossal fairs

I am assuming you went to Lock and Load? since thats the only place to get the Colossals ATM.

Just had my first look at the colossal book and it is brilliant! I'm sure we'll give you all a much more in-depth few on our feelings toward it on the next show. First impressions though? Very pleased and impressed with it.
Looking across the table now and I see a nasty looking Kraken and I'm not looking forward to seeing what it's going to do to my troops.
@computertrucker unfortunately I wasn't expecting the colossal so only using what I had in my bag at the time, and I didn't bring all my Titans. But let's see how I fare against it without all that heavy hitting power...

Just finished our game it was epic and colossal at the same time. The Kraken was kraking out some decent damage, thumbs up in my Scaverous list for sure now. Cannot wait to use it again this wednesday as for Andres b-day there will be a game of colossal proportions. The audio battle report will be up tonight. Also pics to come in the following days.

Destroyers were my first love, but I dabble in everything.

Time spent whining over which faction is overpowered could be better spent playing and bettering one's game. Read page 5 and play.

Ed gives away most of it in NQ 42 in the Colossal battle report, regarding the details on the card. Good battle report..

    The Storm Wall, Cygnar Colossal

I was actually very worried and hesitant in putting this model together because it had so many pieces. I just remember in the old days puting together massive sci fi tank kits with over 100 pieces in sprues and really did not enjoy the process. It was archaic and too time consuming.

That said I gave it a go. Once again to my surprise it was so easy to put together, you do not need to be an expert modeller and use multiple things to put it together. Super glue will do and also a file and clipers to cut the flash which there was very little of.

I put it together in under an hour. Again it was allot of fun to do, there are no sprues. In terms of the sculpt, I am very impressed. This is one fine model. Privateer Press have really increased the bench mark in model making. Easy to put together and as for looks, well very impressive. Worth every penny/cent on the retail price. Here are some pics:

As always, the actual models look way better than in the studio paintjob. Why is that?

I secretly suspect PP does it on purpose. If they showcased the model to best effect on the box art then we get frustrated when we put it together and it doesn't look as good, but if we're looking at the art and going "what is this poo?" then we get to be pleased when the actual model exceeds our expectations.

The above is my personal opinion, and in no way should be taken as representative of the overall Skorne community. Even when I claim otherwise.
Skorne on date ... when did Primal Mk I hit again?

It's the poses. PP may hire people to do sexy-as-sin paintjobs for their studio models, but the poses almost always look absurd and awkward. I suspect it's because they want to display the awesome range of motion available in some of their joints.

I listened trough the colossal episode and it was realy nice. Nice that you got some gaming content in there.

    One thing.
When you talk about things they are always awesome. Yes i am hyped about the colossals to but when i listen to your podcast alot of it soundes like a sales pitch. Right now i trust a GnG as mutch as a No quarter or a White dwarf ad.

Yes we are very excited, especially with the advent of the Colossals. From where we have come from in the war gaming hobby. Playing Privateer Press games is a good place to be at. It also is a sales pitch inervetedly when you are impressed, replicating real excitement experience by the community via conventions like Lock n Load and genuinely psyched up about products which you think are great value for money, followed by a sincere wish that others too may experience the heap* of fun we are having. Thank you for your kind words and comment.

The kraken has a lot of open space on its head. It lacks the detail there that the others have. I have seen the Stormwall in person and was very impressed with the model! I absolutely love it. I love the theme of the Kraken and I enjoy the model but need to see one in person to cast my final judgement upon it. That is going to be a really really big forhead of empty space. You are going to have to do a lot more than battle damage to make that look good and not stand out.

In the Land of the Rising Sun. Managed to prime it here. Whilst listening to AI Happiness tune which was weird as I would expect to have something brooding and dark instead =).

Regarding the top kind of carapace armour above the head. I am going to do allot of markings on it as its smooth area leaves allot of options to be creative.

We should have the battle report up this week. I think next week will be a 35pt Cygnar list with the Storm Wall and Nemo 3 when I get back. Looking forward to it. Cannot wait to get my hands on Vlad 3 & the Conquest!

Not finished, but this is the Kraken that was used in the game. Storm Wall battle Report next.

Skarres feat with Dark guidance and additional 3 corpse tokens on it. P+S 26 on the feat turn. or 23 as long as you do not spend the tokens.

    Hello!

Check out the beautiful sculpt of Double Epic VLAD . 50pt battle report to come. Conquest colossal and the new Vlad. Enjoy the colossal review.

Notes: I would suggest to leave the head not glued to the model till you have painted the head at least, other wise you will have a hard time painting parts of the head due to his shoulderpads. The model in the pic im using is of Vlads alt head, in the box you get 2 variaitons. I will use the other one for my Kraken base =P. The model mainly was not a hassale to put together and was good. However his spear was a little fiddly as its spear and hand must attach to the rest of the wrist/arm. A little filing as well on the horse .

Soon to come: write up on colossal play review. using Colossals and the warcasters from the Colossal book.

    Regards,
    Sam
