Default Just ordered an EXTREME Mauler... Now what?

    Greeting Gents,

As the title implies, I just ordered the extreme maulers. Mostly played menoth in the past, but I've been meaning to get into the Hordes side of things for a while. The only thing holding me back all this time was my dislike for most of the warbeast models. The one shining exception was the exterme sculpt for the dire troll mauler. Simply one of the most gorgeous models I've seen.

So I finally snapped and just ordered one. The question now is... whats the best way to strut this thing around on the battlefield? I don't have the forces book just yet, but I plan to pick one up shortly. I've looked through the tactics thread for a mauler specific thread, and only found a link to the battle college website (which was not that helpful). From what I gathered, the mauler seems like a solid choice for any warlock that trollblood has to offer, which I can understand. He has some pretty solid abilities.

But thats not what I'm asking for here. I would like to build a list around the mauler. Something that can really make it shine. Ask NOT what the Mauler can do for your warlock - ask what the warlock can do for the Mauler!

    Any advice?

    Welcome to Trolls!

The mauler is a very solid best with a great animus. If you are truly focused on the mauler, you will definetly need some of the locks that love him and vice versa:

Borka and Both version of the Doomy enjoy his company. Borka's feat is the biggest benefit for the Mauler with more speed, free power attacks, and not to mention boosted collateral damage rolls. Wind wall will keep your Mauler safe from many attacks while moving up the field. Good thing about Borka is that you can run very beast light with him. In smaller games you can run just him if you'd like and be perfectly fine. Adding in an axer (Who has the animus Rush (Pathfinder and +2" of movement to a warbeast) will always be helpful too.

EDoomy likes the mauler more with several unique abilities that Doomy has. Only problem is that Edoomy is a beast heavy caster, so if you don't like the rest of the beasts than you might not want to play EDoomy.

Most of the casters don't share any particularly unique synergy with 1 mauler. There are spells here and there, but those two will be your best choices. I mean its going to really matter too on what point level, and what other choices you were looking at playing.

Chain attack is more kinds of fun than anything else. In one game I both killed aptimus marketh by chain attacking him with a gladiator and finished off Rasheth by throwing him into a cyclops shaman. I get more cackles per point out of my mauler than anything else. Maulers don't really require any secret synergies - rush is nice on them, but between Rage and chain attack Maulers are pretty self explanatory. Don't be afraid the use rage on some first wave units though.

eMadrak works pretty well with just the Mauler also.

Axer helps the mauler and benefits greatly from his animus
Impaler and Madrak's throws both like rage as well

The Mauler really does well as a second line beast, use his animus for a few turns then send him in for the countercharge.
