Default Kallus -- What's the verdict?

I was running through the list of Legion WLs and making notes, and it occured to me several hours later that I had left Kallus completely off the list. I've never run him, or really even read about him being run. On paper, he looks decisvely middle of the road, with a DEF stat one lower than I'd like in most cases. That said, between his feat and Tenacity, it appears that he can find himself with very survivable 17/17 vs. ranged, and 17/19 vs. Melee.

Seems like there's a little synergy with models with crit effects, too.

What's the verdict? Anyone had much luck with him?

Im cooking up an article on kallus. He is cool, very one dimensional. I think he needs newer releases to be competitive. The succubus and falior will up his game. I think he wants a soulless unit too

Yeah, Kallus would like a soulless unit but because of how his feat would work in he fluff, i doubt we will actually get one. They kinda want you to think about your living models losing their soul when they are with him and becoming something entirely different. With him having a soulless unit, it just doesn't seem nearly as much of "Terrifying" situation to happen in the middle of a fluff battle. However, this isn't fluff so it could happen.

He's quite strong anyway. One of those multi-purpose casters that can do most things and reasonably well. Actually thinking about it... I don't know if I've lost with him.

After the post Domination NQ article regarding Kallus, I have my fingers crossed for some type of soulless unit in our next release.

He has everything you want on a warlock. Damage buff, hit buff Nd armor buff ( sort of). Only issue I have I he's boing to play and we need a soulless unit

It grinds my gears that I have to have all the incubi models on hand in order to run him in the local escalation league. He should come with some.

He's solid. All he does is stand around in clouds, cast Dark Guidance now and then. Toss out the occasional Erruption through a Martyr.

The downside to playing him is the volume of infantry required. If I wanted to run 2-3 max units and have to carry around ~10 Incubi, I'd still be playing Cryx.

Interesting. I had initially been very excited about Kallus being added to our list of options, but turned my nose up a little when I saw that 14/16 statline. And over time, he dropped off my radar completely. I may need to give him a second glance, but I do like the idea of both his accuracy boost from Dark Guidance, his damage boost, and his ability to finally make our Warmongers close to passable with the addition of Unyielding. (Particularly since I've got a box of the damn things collecting dust since MK I.)

Is there anything less straightforward to his win condition than wearing down the opposing army with hordes of Infantry and Incubi?

I was pretty excited about Kallus too, because he was a bridging caster for me to pick up Legion while being able to play infantry like my former faction. I won a 50pt tournament with Kallus/Saeyrn, when SR2012 was fresh.

But yeah. He's very straight forward.

You might find this interesting, an article by Neutralyze on Kallus.

I find Kallus to be exceptionally strong and a wonderful scenario lock. Its shocking how many abilities the feat shuts down.
