Default Kraken's kill shot and black spot combo

So my brain was theory machining again, and I thought of something, and figured I'd check to see if this is legal.

So for setup, let's assume that the enemy has a bunch of solos mixed in with a large group of infantry, our multiple groups in relative close proximity to each other. I hit 1 group (preferably a 10 man group) with black spot. I move the kraken in with 3 focus. Let's assume that thanks to seas of fate I never need to boost attacks. I use my melee attack to kill first black spot model, use free swing against a non spotted model. Then I use kill shot and use the flayer and roll a 3 on my d3. First shot hits spotted model. Free swing against a non spotted model. Rinse and repeat through all the flayer shots, using them against spotted models. Using 1 initial I've now killed 10 models. Assuming that there are still 4 spotted models in my melee range, could I then attack with my melee weapons and drop 4 hellblaster shots?

Fairly certain Rapid Fire only triggers on initial attacks so an attack from the flayer gained from black spot will only net you one shot, and as you can only kill shot once at best you get Melee>Melee>Kill Shot>Melee.

Isn't Kill Shot on the big gun anyway? Rendering that the only viable option?

Kill shot states that once the kraken kills a living model, it may take 1 ranged shot regardless of RoF.......the ability is bonded to the kraken and not either gun, so it can take a shot with either. The reason i'm being led to believe that the flayer works, is that rapid fire is NOT a star action, special action.......it says whenever this weapon is used roll a d3+1 and take that many shots with this weapon regardless of RoF. Also, i know that cygnars jacks with rapid fire, all get to make their d3+1 attacks during pHaley's feat, so why wouldn't the flayer work @ D3+1. Most people assume that the Hellblaster has to be used as you kill a living model and get a corpse to make it stronger, then you're able to fire a shot for free.

While kill shot is not linked to the big gun, the Rapid Fire is linked to making initial attacks. "When you decide to make initial attacks with this weapon at the beginning of this modelʼs combat action, roll a" [x].

Since you decided to make initial attacks with your melee weapons, you get only the one. Haley I'll have to look at a little, but i suspect it comes to the same, they are choosing to make extra ranged initial attacks with that weapon.

Alright......good to know. Just means my kraken will just be lobbing cannon shots all over the place.......your caster is within 16" of me........allow me to present you with 6 cannon shots up in your grill......or at least 3 boosted ones

Kill shots once per activation, so just one cannon shot

I believe Black Spot attacks must be of the same type as the attack that triggered it. So, with the exception of when you choose to use Kill Shot, melee attacks cannot generate ranged attacks and vice versa. And when you do use a Kill Shot, it would not be able to trigger a melee attack.

I think the best use of Black Spot is to use the Flayer. On a good roll you can get four shots with the Flayer and drop 4 AOEs with Black Spot from the big gun.

*edit: NM, I just re-read your post. You're saying since the Kill Shot is triggered by the melee attack, its like the Reaper/Black Spot trick in reverse. I think that probably works, but I still like the Flayer/Unicorn Horn pairing

Black spot needs to be of the same type as your initially declared attacks. This is what makes the Infinite drag combo work.

Declare you are making ranged attacks. Hit with harpoon, drag, get free attack from drag that kills model. Black spot triggers. check for initial attack type (ranged) make another harpoon attack.. .continue until one piece of that delicate, intricate chain fails.

They must have errata'd black spot because in my cryx book it says a ranged or melee attack. :P

Na, just a clarification. you can make either more ranged or more melee, as it says, but a model only gets to make one type of attack, melee or ranged, per round. Black spot does not change this.

ah ha...but of course. Noob mistake. I wasn't even thinking about that. mega derp. :P so, let's say you roll for rapid fire, right? and you get a 2 for 3 shots(d3+1, right?). do the shots happen similtaniously, like a thresher attack, or could you get a black spot shot for each shot taken, for up to 6 shots. so, RF1 take black spot shot, RF2 take BS shot and so on..

Except that it's not just that, because drag allows you to make additional melee attacks that activation while the ruling doesn't allow a melee BS attack (I believe).

And rapid fire is just "make this many initial attacks with this gun", so they aren't simultaneous (unlike Strafe). So yes, that should work, resulting in up to 6 main gun shots a turn (with a lot of luck and/or boosting).

I could be wrong, but I could have sworn kill shot can only proc once per turn. If it only procs once, I'd imagine that a better option would be to start shooting at a Blackspotted unit with the flayer cannon, hope to get a bunch of shots, and use the extra BS shots to fire the hellblaster.
The cycle we go through with every release:
1st stage - reveal - Wow! Look at the new toys.
2nd stage - spoilers - Booo! They're not as awesome as I imagined!
3rd stage - actual play - Okay, this thing's (usually) not awful.

That is what I'm looking forward to doing... but I know I will be disappointed in the D3 roll every time

while true, the only reason you can't make more Melee attacks with black spot on the black ogrun is because you have to shoot with it, because the infinite combo is based on some very, very shaky probabilities.

I also don't think I get where you going here, cay you clarify a bit more so I can respond more directly?

OH yes! that is something that seems completely awesome. 4 shots with the little gun, one shot with the main gun, and 5 from each killing something. and, with epic skarre granting seas of fate, you don't really have to suffer ****ty Hit or Damage rolls.
