Default What makes Trolls so special?

    Hey guys!

I'm scoping out a new army, and the one that pleases me the most aesthetically is Trollbloods. I currently play Legion, but am looking for a play style a bit different. I've been trying to figure out what every army does, but I figured it would be a good idea to come to the Troll professionals for a better run down on the faction.

The negative feedback on the mountain king is a bit disheartening, but I'm keeping in mind that the model isn't even released yet, so I'm sure it's not as bad as everyone says.

So, what is it that makes Trolls so special and awesome?

Tough and all medium base models for most part. Can be easily shot but not trampled over.

As long as it is a trollblood and has a melee weapon, we are able to make it a serious threat. Even our support grunts are able to reach MAT7 POW15.

Slamming our own dudes over other dudes is a valid and widely accepted tactic... what more do you need?

I played a Cygnar Gunline list recently. Flanked by Gun Mages and Long Gunners, I lost almost everything moving down the field (played kill box artifice only). By the time I had engaged my opponent the only things remaining were a Mauler with ~7 hit boxes and Borka with ~2 hit boxes. Smash and Grab throw a Defender over Seige, Borka charges Seige and finishes the game. I know this wasn't the point being made in the quoted comment, but it does further demonstrate that we usually continue to provide a serious threat to the last Troll standing.

Everybody is a hero in the Troll faction. (With maybe an exception for the Pygs)

Ability to claim that while you're a troll, you're not trolling per se.

I had more than one game where my last surviving Burrower made the caster kill. Don't underestimate the Pygmies. Don't underestimate any Trollblood model.

Trolls are tough, good in melee, and can run nicely balanced lists (balanced between beasts and troops).

We rely a lot on synergy, and when that synergy gets going, we can really do some damage and have some great durability.

It' short form, and it means a post or comment was so good, it was like 10 Charizards.

I assumed that had to do with the minimum post length being 10 characters long
    ...

But I think trolls are best because between great models and great rules... The are the most fun for me to play

    True, which was my point.

The Burrower's special abilities make them rock, their stat line is fairly average for infantry. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Burrower's, but they're not at a heroic level, IMHO.

The trolls are great at weathering the storm to deliver a devastating Melee punch. They suffer a bit in the ranged dept. but have plentiful damage, Def and ARM buffs that can be layered to make any single model a viable threat to even the most heavily armored enemy.

    That and whelps, whelps everywhere.

10 characters is something caused by posts being a minimum of ten characters, so people type that in when they want to just say +1 or yep or agree.

I like trolls because we have an extremely wide variety of solid lists, between ranged heavy, beast heavy, infantry heavy and some combination of the above I always feel like I can bust out almost anything I am in the mood for.

On the down side, if you really want to get in the spirit, you need to learn to paint tartan.

But on the upside, you get to learn to paint tartan.

    Plus ... TARTAN!!!

Tough across the trollblood board is amazing. (if you remember to use it) Hands down the best infantry support solos, units, 'locks in the Iron Kingdoms. And who doesn't love cabers made of marble? Got a high defense dude? (eMorghoul is my best friends go-to 'lock) Slam a Kriel warrior from behind through him to knock him down andthen commence with the curb stomping. Loving my trolls.

Also arguably the only "good guys" in the game.

The only faction where every single model in-faction (sans Tuffaloes) is related to all by blood.
    Now that's unity!

And why our light cavalry should be young Dires mounted by Pygs!

On the upside, your infantry is bigger than everyone elses'!

On the downside, your infantry is more expensive than everyone elses'....

If you are referring to cost in $'s then possibly yes, but as for points wise I think cygnar has almost anyone beat on the expensive units.

Yes, I was referring to dollars. When each infantry and warlock model is 50%-75% more expensive than their small based counterparts, it adds up.

Don't worry about the Mountain Pawn -- he's just a slightly less effective puncher in an army full of better (and cheaper) punchers who work together more efficiently.

The Earthborn dire troll has some of my favorite rules in the game.

Huh. Six months away from Cygnar and I've forgotten how to win... until Kara Sloan goes all 'bullet to the head' several games in a row. It's good to be back.

He really does stand out. His potency can be dependent on player's ability to mesh preparation and opportunity, which adds an additional layer of complexity and fun that you don't always find in any ol' beatstick.
