Default Carver wins LGS monthly tourney

Scenario No Man’s Land for all 3 games

    List (25pts): Thornfall
Carver, Warhog, Gunboar, Gunboar, Targ, Slaughterhousers, Pendrake, Razorback

    Game1: vs pIrusk
He setup in a massive brick, min shocktrooper, max shocktrooper, Kovnik, mechanicks with UA, Spriggan

He rolled to go first and I was convinced I had lost as keeping them out of the control area was the only way I saw to win.
Luckily, he only walked and shieldwalled both first and second turn…..souieeee

From there is was only a matter of running everything turn 1 and charging/running turn 2. I dented 2 shocktroopers and took out a few mechanicks to bursts (targ/gunboar) but other than that did nothing except lock down the brick 2” from the control area.

His turn 3 he killed off many SH and severly hurt Warhog and 1 gunboar…but then I auto won turn 3 by scenario

Game 2: vs Goreshade the Bastard
    He setup and went first.
Stalker on my right flank, Seether/Slayer (?) centre, Deathripper left flank. Bane thralls + tarterous on left, Gorman, mechanithralls, necrosurgeon and thralls on light, Bastard in behind.

He got up into control easily with mechani and stitches. Helljack was teleported up into mechanithralls centre and into control zone.

Farrow started with some good shooting that took out most of the stichthralls and mechithrall, but more just got made. SH charged the helljack and put some hurt on it (over half?). Ran up the Warhog...but got too close.

Got very lucky and Gorman black oiled the Helljack before it activated so that it could do little. Also lucky that he twice forgot to allocate focus to jacks so the two lights crept up the sides but did little. Banes charged Warhog and severly hurt it (leaving 5). Thralls killed a few slaughterhousers but with the Helljack black oiled they (mostly) lived. Because of his issues with FOCUS and some miss-activation Goreshade was camping all of his FOCUS and within range of all of my ranges. With his Medium base nothing was blocking LOS for my gunboars, razorback etc, so it may have saved him as I chose not to try and assassinate.

Razorback nailed Gorman to death and took out a number of thralls. Grunt shot another mechanithrall
Carver shotgunned down the deathwalker, feated and threw out mobility and massacre on a gunboar. Gunboar massacred/overtake ran through the stichthralls and surgeon, getting into b2b with goreshade. Other boar charged stalker and did minor damage. Targ healed the Warhog hog, it Trampled a number of banes down (maybe half?) but died to one free strike before it could hurt the jacks it had reached. SH finished the Helljack.

Goreshade feated and a herd of banes between them and the ½ squad took out the gunboar and SH’s. But then his deathclock ran out. He had a lot of banes on the board….

    Game 3: vs eFeora

Everything seemed to go right. I went first and had a forest and difficult terrain to hide my battlegroup in. Razorback dug into the forest cover and the slaughterhousers took centre field. Put Quagmire on the SH

He setup a Redeemer, Crusader, and Vanquisher in front with Knights Exemplar split on either side. The choir and vassal too the rear and wracks were out along the flanks. Everything moved forward and the Redeemer/Vanquisher managed to kill 2 SH and set a gunboar and Warhog alight. He played eFeora very far forward, just in behind the Vanquisher. The knights ran up and thought they were providing some cover...

Razorbacks damaged the Crusader and grunt missed a knight. Carver feated, Mobility, and cast Massacre in the Warhog. He then advanced slightly and shotgunned a knight down. The Warhog went to town. Charged one Knight, Massacred through to a second, Gored a third and cleaved a fourth...bringing it with Overrun right up to the Vanquisher. the Hog then proceeded to tear apart the heavy with ease and Fury. This left eFeora open to a SH and Gunboar Charge. She was Quagmired in place and smashed down to 2 HP.
Pendrake Bolas knocked the Crusader down and the last Gunboar ran clear across the battle to engage it and the last knight just past the Control Zone.

He was penned in and I was sure I would win by control victory just like game 1. Quagmire held the Redeemer and eFeora, who along with the warhog was blocking all the choir etc from running in and the gunboar was limiting the knocked down Crusader and the knight from walking in without punishment.

eFeora kept all her Focus and pulled more from wracks (meh). Then feated and pulled more from all my flaming guys surrounding her and getting her up to 12 (meh!?).

Then she teleported (maaaa!!!!). Teleportation gets around Quagmire quite neatly and charged Carver through a massive gap I had felt safe leave.

Carver stared down a Focus 10 charge from eFeona. Transfered one hit to the gunboar and somehow managed to survive 10 Focus worth of bought up attacks. Feora then conceded the win to a lucky, lucky Carver.

    3 wins for first place.
A beautiful Skorne army took second and the brick of Khador from game 1 took third.

nice rollin' and an a-typical list. Carver whitout brigands looks like sacrilege gunboars on the other hoof are golden

My plan to try next time (still atypical)

    List (25pts): Thornfall
Carver, Roadhog, Gunboar, Targ, Slaughterhousers, Pendrake, Gudrun, Min Bonegrinders, Min Bonegrinders

Rather than sticking with Carver for Talisman, the 2x Bonegrinders will AD on the flanks and run/advance around the sides, trying to pick off solos and generally getting in the way. Gudrun will run with the SH as a psuedo-UA of sorts (staying 2.5" or charging first if possible).

looks interesting, carvers feat makes even bonegrinders a threat on the charge, and for their cost they're pretty good.

    35pt game: Thornfall
Carver, 2x Gunboars, Roadhog, 2x min bone grinders, 2x slaughterhousers, 2x razorbacks

    vs Captain Jeremiah Kraye

To the best of my memory he had something like: 2x hunters, sentinel, cyclone, defender, hammersmith (?).

I setup SH in front centre, razorbacks flanking them, and BG outside on flanks symmetrically. Battle group was in behind SH.

Now, we did not play a scenario. I always prefer to have scenarios in play for the very reason that will become evident in this write-up, but for what-ever reason I did not press for a scenario as I should have.

    1) I ran forward
    2) He Ride-by/lights moved, shot, retreated.

Repeat 2-3x until I conceded due to frustration. I doubt his forces ventured more than 6" past his deployment.

It was the first time every trying a roadhog (proxy) and it did not even get to attack before dying to hunters.
It was also the first debut of trying Bone Grinders. They did manage to at least a) hit Kraye with a Arcane Bolt for 0 damage, b) lightly damage the sentinel, and c) finally engage Kraye . Given those were the only 2 attack rolls I even got to make I guess by relative comparison I may call them a success.

    Never play without some scenario.
