    Default Druid Diary XCVI: Tournament

at the last minute, I decided to attend Origins and compete in the one tourney that day ( I had worked a lot the past week and was looking forward to resting up, but my restlessness got the better of me)
    The tourney went 4 rounds....here's the 1st...

    25pts
    went 1st, deployed 1st
Mangled Metal / Tooth and Claw

    eKaya
    -Pureblood
    -Feral
    -Stalker
    -Laris
    (tier 1)

    vs

    Dr. Arkadius
    - 3 Warhogs
    - 2 Gunboars

    ---------the list-----------
First thing I did was choose my caster. I had toyed around with playing Kromac, the Baldurs or Grayle, but I'm more familiar with eKaya in this type of game format. eKaya does it all; she protects her battlegroup with Stealth, while boosting one beast with ForcedEvo. Add in the surprise assassination factor through Laris and you have a caster that brings many threats to the board.
Beast selection was a bit trickier. I wanted to bring Ghetorix, but he eats up a lot of points. So I went with the one of each of the old Warpwolves. These three bring the flexibilty and threat that cand deal with most, if not all comers.

    --------opponent's list----------

First round, I got my usual opponent from my LGS! He had been at the convention all week and had been doing extremely well. To boot, he had been playing a different faction for each of the tourneys and went with Farrow for the day.
I have seen my opponent use a list similar to this one. It revolves around the damage output of the Warhogs and Arkadius' feat that basically gives his beasts 2 activations (of sorts)

    --------breakdown-------------

eKaya - deployed behind Laris. Put up ShadowPack and ForcedEvo on the Feral. Popped feat on turn 2 to bring beasts to safety after the alpha strike. Mostly spent Fury to upkeep spells and heal beast aspects. Typically camped 2 Fury over the course of the game. Charged and killed a Warhog the Pureblood just barely failed to kill.

Pureblood - AD'ed full distance up the board at the center of my beast line. 1st turn warped for SpellWard and ran. On feat turn (turn 2) moved up and dropped a spray on a Warhog doing a bit of damage before teleporting back to Kaya. Next turn charged a Warhog but failed to kill by a few points. Damaged a Gunboar with a spray. Took a bit of damage from the Gunboars. Was hit by Dr- Arkadius' MindSerum and hit my Feral for a bit of damage

Feral - full AD'ed to the left of my Pureblood. Warped for ARM and ran. Charged and killed a Warhog on feat turn. Took some damage when my Stalker frenzied. Failed a threshold check, frenzied, charged and killed a Gunboar while engaging the other Gunboar. Killed the Gunboar when it tried to break from combat.

Stalker - AD'ed full distance to the right of my Pureblood. Ran up the board on turn one. Charged a Warhog on feat turn but failed to kill. Failed a threshhold check and hit my Feral for a bit of damage. Took some damage from a frenzied Warhog (opponent's feat). Next turn, killed the Warhog in melee. After all the enemy beasts had been cleared out, the Stalker charges and kills the enemy caster

Laris - deployed just in front of Kaya. Ran wide to open up the option of a assassination run. Moved to the flank on feat turn but did not teleport back to Kaya. My opponent ran a warhog close to Laris and then had his caster pop his feat. One hit from the Frenzied Warhog was enough to kill Laris

    -----general flow of game--------
I went super agressive and tried to take out his heavies as soon as possible. I killed one Warhog on feat turn and serious wounded another. I response, my opponent ran his remaining heavies into my army and popped his feat. My Warpwolves survived the Frenzied Warhog attack, but started failing threshold checks from the previous turn and began to hurt each other. Despite this, I had the momentum and enough unFrenzied beasts to clean up

    ------- all-in-all ---------------
I ran my beasts hot in a effort to take out those Warhogs. On top of that, I made sure that Kaya camped at least 2 Fury in case of any unforeseen threats. The result was lots of damage taken from my own beasts.

    result: win (by assassination).
