    Default Stormwall Compilation

I'm interested in seeing everyone's paint jobs on their Stormwalls, so I thought I'd provide a place to compile pictures of them.

Please feel free to either post pictures, or post links to your own threads that have said pictures.

Pictures are preferable, so that we can have a nice big gallery-thread of Stormwall awesomeness, but thread links are of course perfectly acceptable.

EDIT: Also, if you do post pictures, but also have a seperate thread of your own with pictures, please provide a link to it so that everyone has a place to discuss and make personal comments on your work, rather than try to have conversations about multiple peoples work in this one thread

Thanks for being the first post captainspud; I'm a fan of all your work you've posted I've always felt Khador 'jacks were very mean and intimidating looking, and you bring that look to our Cygnar 'jacks with your paint schemes. I also like that you prefer a different arcane glow color, other than blue. I prefer a purple/violet glow myself.

Yours is the only one I've seen on here so far, so I'm hoping there are other ones I've missed that will post, or this will entice those that haven't posted to do so.

EDIT: Also, would you mind including a link to your thread at the end of your post, so that anyone who wants to discuss your particular paint job will have a place for it? Not that I mind people talking about how awesome your paint job is, but if there are too many of such conversations in this thread, it will detract from the overall gallery-esque look I was hoping for

Well, I had a bit of a head start on most people.

If my own painting time holds true for most people, we'll start seeing more by the weekend...

I hate you Spud. Mine's still in the box and yours is looking awesome and has a great base as well. I also like the pose, a menacing stride rather than the usual "Rawr! I am shooting all my guns!"

If it makes you feel any better, after that picture I spray-sealed it outside in the humidity and frosted it.

So, yeah. Not as awesome now. >_<

Good lord Spud, you've got a lot of paint on there. You can clearly see in those photos where the paint is built up with the brush strokes showing on the transitions between the reds on the shoulder. I've read your blog about your pre-mixed reds and the process you use for your scheme, but at this point, given your good-to-high skill level, don't you feel like it's about time to invest in an airbrush? Especially for larger, uninterrupted surfaces?

But yeah, base aside (I don't care for the stonework), it's a pretty good looking model Spud. He kinda looks like he's flexing his pecs, given the angle of his hands to his body and the perky nipple gun pointed down like that (yes I know what you were going for, but it's the arm positioning that's giving that effect).

I agree. It's one of those 'Wow!' then 'Oh...' jobs. Good for Tabletop though. Actually just good in general but I agree the transitions could be a lot smoother.

Never give in! If everyone starts using airbrushes your sable brushes won't wear out as fast resulting in fewer brush purchases. The kolinsky population will grow out of control and before you know it we'll be facing a weaselpocalypse.

I jest. Airbrushing is a perfectly legitimate painting technique that gives some pretty spiffy results.

I've heard the using a hair dryer helps remove the frosting from spray on models. Might be worth a try.

Well I personally think that this is a GREAT paintjob. I would say higher than tabletop quality as well. You put alot of extra work into the base, the scene and the pose. Are there things that can be done a little better, yes. You know...if everyone painted until every model was truly done then no one would be playing the game, peeps would be spending game night doing "Just one last highlight" LOL. Great work man. Im impressed. Hell this even got me to log in to comment and counter what some others are saying.

"There goes that damn Stormwall again, traipsin' through my prize begonias! Go spray it with the hose, Carl!"

    Nicely done!

ps. You think the paintjobs on real war-machines are airbrush pretty? Think of thse as battleships on land. 47 coats of paint are typical!

One of our local pressgangers wanted to run his tonight so he stuck the torso on some Storm Strider legs and his newly dubbed "Storm Spider" took to the field.

LOVE THE BASE! Interesting paint scheme. Mine is currently...blue. Very very blue. I'm using army painter as my primer so it's really blue. I'm hoping to finish her up this Saturday so I can get her in some games on Sunday. I was supposed to start painting her earlier...I decided to take a nap instead.

I never noticed how much detail on the Stormwall and the paint job is to thank for that , it looks amazing.

I dig the look of the brush work. It almost has a slightly impressionistic style, yet maintains realism. It's refreshing to see a more painterly look after seeing the airbrushed studio models, which look kind of boring and less "artsy" to me....

Eargh. That sucks. I have had that same thing happen so I know your pain.

Also, people are talking about your brushwork but is that how you painted it? I was wondering if you might have built up the red on one side but then used a series of washes to create the heavy shading.

Nope, it's just eight layers brushed on from black, through Scab Red, to bright red.

The complaints are perfectly valid-- I've never claimed to be an especially skilled technical or display painter. I don't even thin my paint! As long as I get the colours vaguely where I aim them, I'm happy.

Also: SOMEONE ELSE POST A PAINTED STORMWALL. I really didn't intend to make this a third "YAY/BOO FOR SPUD'S STORMWALL" thread... >_<

Aww, look at the twins. Fabulous job. If only I could motivate myself to get mine painted...she's currently sitting in a box...kinda lonely and blue (she's primed blue). Has anyone actually NAMED their Stormwall?

    I like Ishmael's in post #29!
lol. The Stormwall looks like he jumped out of a forest and is making crazy man noises to scare little children (or in this case, Light jacks).
What in Caen's name are his arms doing? UGH! Gotta...get...that...itch... Nemo's in the backgound trying to scratch his back and the stormwall is going crazy.
