    Default Pirate 'Jacks

Well, I painted these up as part of a commission just a little while ago, and I thought I'd share them here.

Love me the pirates. How did you do the copper rust on the Mariner's cannon? I've been looking for that detail. The salty air is no bueno on metals. Wanted to make them look like it.
Why is all the pirate gone?

Nice! The corrosion looks very good, and the color scheme is great. I think the "paint chips" are a bit too stark, though.

Is it enough compliment that when I saw the title of the thread on the list a voice immediately said inside: "please let it be the jacks of that smiley bald guy, please!"
And it's you! And the quality is high as always.
I'm a great fan of your works.

Thanks. I glad that 'that smiley bald guy' is positive. Makes me feel all warm inside.

PS: the weathering on the metals here is actually just a simple wash I made from watered down turquoise paint.

Love the work, but wanted to focus in on the bases. I like those! They look homemade - esp. the Freebooter's - and that gives them a really nice warmth. Most importantly, the warping effect is cool. At first, I thought they were cobble stone and it really reminded me of this section of road in Ann Arbor, MI near where I live - after years of being driven on, the bricks are warped and molded to the contours of the hilly road. Neat effect! The point is this: seeing minis that remind you of real life is always a great touch.

this has been my big difficulty, actually. what's the ratio you use for you wash? i have had a really hard time nailing it. i did really well on the eagle on my eEryiss figure, but then it came out too green on my next "weathered" project, my omnijack.
